Hart of Dixie Renewed for Season 2 by The CW

hart of dixieHart of Dixie has become the latest CW series to earn a renewal for next season. The low-key dramedy, set in a small Alabama town, will be back next season for a full season of 22 episodes, all but assuring it a place on the fall schedule.

The show had never been a slam dunk success, but its steadiness and loyal core fanbase showed enough potential for another season. Hart of Dixie often grew from its Gossip Girl lead-in, charming audiences with its distinct tone and undeniable warmth.

The most “logical” move for The CW to make is pairing Hart of Dixie with recently picked up medical drama First Cut, but Dixie’s companion will depend on episode orders and the way The CW fits their five new dramas onto the schedule. There isn’t anything as WB-centric as Dixie on the network, especially once the show concludes the current love quadrangle they’re working on. In the upcoming season finale, for instance, George and Lemon will be getting married or at least trying to, their flirtations and affairs with Lavon and Zoe weighing heavily all around.

And there’s also the matter of a thunderstorm and Wade Kinsella, finally ready to talk about the unspoken sexual chemistry he has with Doctor Hart. Hart of Dixie has been teasing out a Wade/Zoe fling/relationship/thing all season and they’ll finally have the opportunity to sort things out.

One way or another.

The season finale of Hart of Dixie airs Monday at 9:00 on The CW. You can check out a photo preview of the finale, as well as multiple clips, here and here. The CW will be unveiling its 2012-13 primetime schedule on next Friday.

Updated Renewals/Cancellations/Pick-Ups: CW picks up five new shows and renews Nikita. Supernatural, The Vampire Diaries and 90210 were given early renewals. Ringer and The Secret Circle were canceled, while Gossip Girl was renewed for an 11 episode season.

Are you excited for more Hart of Dixie next season? Who do you think Zoe should end up with? Which of the new CW shows would you pair it with?
