There are always more World War II stories to tell, and Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg are usually the ones that are the best at telling them. Their past collaborations have produced the immortal Band of Brothers miniseries on HBO, and then The Pacific, which wasn’t quite as good but still important.
Now it seems they’re coming back for a third go-round with Masters of the Air. It may not be called that, but that’s the name of Donald L. Miller’s book which “is a narrative non-fiction work about American bombers in the air campaign against Nazi Germany, focusing on the “Mighty Eighth” Air Force.”
It’s likely going to be another big price tag for HBO, as Band of Brothers cost $125M while The Pacific topped $200M. And if this is all going to be planes and bombings and dogfights? That’s a hell of a lot of CGI and/or historic plane rental, and I can’t imagine that’s going to come cheap.
Are you excited for another World War II story from these two, or do you think they’ve exhausted the concept by now?
