My favorite AMC series is still Rubicon, the cancellation of which still brings a bitter taste to my mouth. Despite that cancellation, the network is bring some of the best original programming to cable this side of HBO. This year marked the premiere of The Killing, arguably its weakest effort but still a pretty good show. Last year brought us The Walking Dead, a brilliant series centering upon the zombie apocalypse. And, of course, there are old favorites Mad Men and Breaking Bad. So what's the newest show being added to AMC's stellar line-up? How about Hell on Wheels?
Like Mad Men, Hell on Wheels is a period drama -- though Hell on Wheels takes place in the 1860s, not the 1960s. Described by AMC as a "contemporary Western," the series will follow follow former Confederate soldier Cullen Bohannon (Anson Mount) and his quest to avenge his wife's death that will lead him to the Union Pacific Railroad's construction of the first transcontinental railroad. They're going west, which means they're going to run into indian territory, amongst other dangerous things.
While Hell on Wheels certainly fits with a lot of the Westerns that AMC is famous for airing, the question remains: will it hold up to the standard of quality that AMC has set for itself? Check out the trailer for the series below and decide for yourself.
Hell on Wheels will premiere this fall on AMC.
AMC is gonna have to dance fast and hard after the debacle that was 'The Killing'. If HoW is good, they'll be ok. But The Killing really hurt them overall. I'm not giving them another blind chance after Rubicon and The Killing. I'll read the reviews and audience response for this one before I settle in for another waste of time. I am starting to feel like (many people)they got lucky with MM and BB and now they are going to have to make nice with their audience and earn our trust back. I think most people will watch the first couple of episode of The Killing's second season if only to have another laugh at how horribly misguided and downright dopey the show ended up being. Can't wait to see the critics and former fans have a heyday over that. What was AMC thinking picking up that awful show for a 2nd season????
Just because half the audience for The Killing are spoiled brats who were angry they didn't get their cookie when they wanted it doesn't mean that the show "hurt" AMC. I think AMC will be just fine.
Blahhhh… Another AMC/The Killing hater. The show was the weakest AMC show for sure, but just compared to all the crap other networks air it was pretty good TV nevertheless with some awesome actors. I really enjoyed Joel Kinnaman & Michelle Forbes, they were brilliant.
So please enlighten me and tell me which network has only perfect and brilliant shows? I also enjoy HBO & FX shows, but there also are some better and some worse. AMC – though only having dramas and no comedies – is basically just like them.
I'm looking forward to seeing "Hell on Wheels". I've been a huge fan of his acting, since around 1991 when he appeared in our high school's performance of, "The Death and Life of Sneaky Fitch", a Western based play, which, obviously helped him with this role. Everyone should see him star in the cool indie film titled, "Tully".
