No Definitive Conclusion for 'Heroes' If Cancelled

Well, production has wrapped on season four of Heroes, and it does not serve as a series finale, actor Greg Grunberg emphatically confirmed. The actor, who plays mind reader Matt Parkman on the sci-fi drama, told TV Guide that "It would not serve as an appropriate series finale. To properly wrap up our show, which absolutely has to happen, we have to come back and do some more episodes. Without question."

But sagging ratings are begging to differ with the series, which has been rumored to be on the short list for cancellation -- even on NBC, which has recently freed up an additional five hours of weekly programming due to the end of The Jay Leno Show. Grunberg, however, remained optimistic that overseas performance and DVD sales will at least give the series one more season. "They make so much money on the show that they've got to finish it off," he says. "People want that and will demand it, which means we'll probably end up doing it."

Grunberg's quite a lot more optimistic than most viewers, but showrunner Tim Kring is at work trying to make Grunny's dreams a reality. The Futon Critic has reported that Kring is working on pitching a potential fifth season of the show to NBC, which the show desperately needs if it wants to give viewers a resolution on character fates, after the fourth season finale, which Grunberg describes as "strong."

Filming of Heroes briefly resumed Tuesday to finish out filming of the finale, and the cast acknowledged that it might be the last time they would be together filming the series. "You say your goodbyes and give gifts, because you really never know," Grunberg said of the potential end.

If Heroes does end with the fourth season, it'll be ending on what actor Masi Oka has described as the "second-strongest season," creatively. And I'll agree with Masi there -- it's been the best season since season one. But will that be enough to keep the show on its feet -- or on the air? What do you think?

If NBC cancels "Heroes", then they are down to one show that I will watch on their network. If they cancel "Community", then there will be ZERO shows on NBC that I will watch. This is very important because if I watch NO shows on the network, then I am very unlikely to watch a new show on the network. I found out about "Community" by watching "Heroes". I will find out about new NBC programming through "Heroes" and "Community".That is, unless they cancel them. At which point, in protest over this and the Conan debacle, I will not watch a minute of NBC for the next five years.

I STARTED HEROES FROM THE START, AND NO LONGER DO, THE STORY HAS GONE TO SHIT! I FEEL AS IF THE WRITERS DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH THE CHARACTER. THE SERIES HAD A LOT OF POTENTIAL, BUT THAT IS GONE NOW!

Love the show. NBC, gotta keep it!

I must say the first two seasons of Heroes were AWESOME. After that, the show got boring and the writing was kinda lame. I still watched, but wasn't as excited about it. HOWEVER, this season has been awesome. I'm glad they killed off Nathan and I like how they have brought in this Carnival plot. Having a Samuel and Peter/Syler battle is going to be awesome! Heroes hasn't been this good since Season 1! It's awesome now, and it would be nice to see the show go at least another Season. I think there are so many new characters and plots that the writers could come up with some kick ass story lines for next season. (More Syler/Peter/Samuel/Claire/ -less Hiro and his sidekick) Keep the show on air, NBC! They have earned a comeback!

If they keep this show going for what about 4 million viewers then they should bring back other better shows in my opinion that had about the same number of viewers.

If they keep this show going for what an about 4 million viewers, then they should bring back some of the better shows, in my opinion, that have been cancelled. (for no good reason)

Heroes has gone down hill- Doesnt Claire remember what happened when everyone knew what they were? It was a good show. I would have cancelled it after season 3. (season 2 was a weird glitch)

I watch heroes online and love the show! I know many people that are drawn to the the show, if you take in account how many other viewers do online, DVR, watch with a friend, own seasons one-four, you would see that it's a lot more then 4 million. I was overseas, and many people love this show, its more for a worldly show then most!Save heroes, finish each characters story, Please!

I had stopped watching with 5 episodes left. I got tired of the sporadically crappy writing and hammy overacting. My buddy watched the full season and said I dropped the ball. On his advice, I watched the last 5 episodes. This definitely ended up being one of the best seasons of Heroes. The writers need to keep the story focused like they did with this season. Too much peripheral nonsense (inconsequential characters, divergent time lines, dead end plots) really detracts from a show like this. Season 1 was very good, Season 2 was passable but very unfocused, Season 3 (with a few exceptions) SUCKED, Season 4 was almost great. For me, the show hinges on Sylar and Bennett, and to a lessor extent, Hiro, Claire and Peter. As goes there characters, so goes the season.

Been a HUGE fan since the show premiered, but I'm very certain I'm not going to watch the next season, if there is another one. (I actually hope there is, just so Tim Kring can prove my cynicism wrong, and get me back into the show)Seasons 1 and 2, I thought, were AMAZING. Then Season 3 came and I wanted to cry at how terrible it was. Someone summed up my opinions on that season best, when they said that all of season 3 (with a few exceptions) SUCKED. The first half of Season 4 was really good, though. I loved the introduction of Gretchen, and the possible romance between her and Claire – that was so much more interesting than 99% of what happened in season 3, with Claire. Peter's whole obsession with pushing himself to the limits was genius, and so true to his character in the first two seasons. Parkman fighting Sylar mentally was really intriguing and revealed a lot of the darker sides to Parkman that we all were hinted to in 5 Years Gone.Halfway through the season, though, (literally right when the show came back from hiatus) I think they dropped the ball. Lydia developed a crap load of abilities that made no sense together, plot lines started that just tapered out, and Hiro was saved by a Deus Ex Machina that would've worked in a show with magic, but not a Science Fiction show where every ability is a genetic mutation. Which means there are no ghosts, no angels, and really no afterlife… so how does his dead mother show up in the nick of time and heal him?But what makes me not want to continue, the most, is that I can not get over everything that pissed me off so much in Season 3. And I can not help but think of that season every time I watch the newer episodes. No matter how good the new episodes may be, they are still in continuation of an entire season of crap. The only way, I can think of, that would justify Season 3, for me, would be if Sylar went back in time and stopped Peter from catching the vial with the Shanti virus, thus setting off a completely new chain of events that would change absolutely everything.

  11. Bill says:

It should have been cancelled soon after the second season. It's been in a tailspin ever since.

  12. Jack says:

God get this piece of shit off the air. NBC's only good show is the Office, but truly this has become this biggest debacle of television ever. To me, it is like the writers' minds got fried after season 1. Seriously, my little 8 year old nephew could write better stuff where characters develop (really how long has claire/father thing been going on for?) and plot lines aren't discarded so carelessly (anyone else get the feeling that the writers don't know what to do anymore?). After Lost finishes (Heroes could learn a thing from a planned out show like Lost) I truly don't know where I will get my non-comedy TV fix from. Lost does everything Heroes does not. Please get this shit canceled as soon as possible.

  13. Chris says:

WHAT happen to the IRISH girl love interest for Peter who was trapped in the future??!!! Remember the future that Peter went to that supposedly 90% of the population had died from the virus….. Peter totally forgot about her… really unprofessional from the writersShe's still in the alternate future which the heroes changed in the end

  14. Amber says:

Every show I've seen has "gone to shit" after the first season. But the latest season finally had the "heroes" showing normal people what they can do. That's always been one of my biggest dreams in life is for humans to meet specials!

  15. RLD2010 says:

Heroes is the best show ever. It'll be a huge shame if they can't conclude it. I've been waiting for it to start up again, wandering what the conclusion will be. I'm totally gutted that its been wrapped. I've been a fan since it was first aired and totally disagree that the show has become boring due to the story lines. Its a true shame that a final season may not take place.
