Heroes needs to return to its season one glory in the worst way.   Seemingly, that is not only a fact - it's the talking point handed out to the Heroes cast before they recorded these soundbites to prep fans for the fourth season.  Heroes fans remain steadfast, while others have either given up on the show completely or are reluctant to believe the series can achieve 'Redemption.'  All of the hype and trash talk will come to an end for at least a couple of hours tonight when Tim Kring and Company unveil the recipe they have whipped together for their fourth inning.

In the interest of full disclosure, I have to say I'm a skeptic.  There are performances on the show that I am hopelessly addicted to - the sorely underutilized Greg Grunberg, Jack Coleman's H.R.G, and Zachary Quinto's Sylar - and whose presence guarantee that I will be tuned in every Monday, yet I can't visualize myself sitting at the end of any episode this season, mouth agape, marveling over how they finally recaptured the glory of season one. Particularly without Bryan Fuller.  Hopefully I'll be telling you how wrong I was come tomorrow.

“VOLUME FIVE: REDEMPTION” MAKES A SPECIAL TWO-HOUR DEBUT WITH THE INTRODUCTION OF A MYSTERIOUS CARNIVAL CLAN WHOSE INTENTIONS ARE UNKNOWN, WHILE FAMILIAR FACES ADJUST TO NEW STAGES OF THEIR LIVES THAT WILL CHALLENGE THEIR PERCEPTIONS OF THE WORLD AND THEIR ABILITIES. ROBERT KNEPPER JOINS THE CAST. RAY PARK, ZELJKO IVANEK, MADELINE ZIMA, AND DAWN OLIVIERI GUEST STAR -- Claire (Hayden Panettiere) struggles with adjusting to her new life in college when a mysterious death thrusts her into the spotlight once again. Elsewhere, Hiro (Masi Oka) and Ando (James Kyson Lee) continue their noble quest to help people by promoting their abilities. Angela (Cristine Rose) fears Nathan (Adrian Pasdar) will soon discover his true identity; while Matt (Greg Grunberg) is haunted by an unexpected visitor seeking something he has lost. Tracy Strauss (Ali Larter) and H.R.G. (Jack Coleman) join forces, looking for the key to unlock the motive behind a horrific crime. Meanwhile, Peter (Milo Ventimiglia) uses his abilities for good, but he is soon called upon to aid an old friend. While the heroes adjust to their new surroundings, a mysterious carnival clan, led by ringleader Samuel (Robert Knepper), sets their sights on familiar faces. James Kyson Lee and Zachary Quinto also star. Rachel Melvin, Jimmy Jean-Louis, Ashley Crow, Lisa Lackey, Assaf Cohen, and Saemi Nakamura also guest star.

  1. Casey says:

    I agree, Doc. I'm a skeptic too.

I mean, it seems like ever since the stink of season 2, they've started each volume with this blitz of "Oh! We're taking Heroes back to it's season 1 roots!"

They said this at the beginning of "Villains." They said it when "Fugitives" began. They said it when Bryan Fuller came in during the middle of "Fugitives." It hasn't happened yet.

Now they are saying it again. It's like crying wolf. It gets harder to believe them each time.

Yet I still tune in, hoping that Peter will finally fulfill his potential. I'm a glutton for punishment, I suppose.
