In this week’s episode of Lethal Weapon, Riggs learns to enjoy the Holidays even in the midst of grief. While Murtaugh learns that the little things in life we make a big deal out of aren’t actually a big deal after all.
When the episode opens we see a flashback of how Riggs and his wife Miranda first met. (I think this was a really unique way to open the episode.) Meanwhile, Murtaugh is upset with his neighbors, The McNeiles because they’re using too much power for their Christmas decorations. All the Christmas celebration is cut short however when Riggs and Murtaugh catch the case of a woman named Elena Tull who was pushed from an apartment balcony.
Bailey finds out that the apartment belongs to Eddie Flores, a top cartel associate Riggs knew in Texas. Riggs and Murtaugh meet with a journalist named Hannah, who says Elena was her source for a piece she was writing on Eddie, and when Elena found out who he was she wanted to take him down.
From the information Hannah gave them, Riggs and Murtaugh find Eddie at a club. Things became personal for Riggs when Eddie seems to imply he had something to do with Miranda’s death. This new found information sends Riggs on a mission to find out if there’s any evidence of Eddie’s involvement in her death.
While looking through case files and belongings, Riggs has a flashback to spending Christmas with Miranda. In the meantime, Murtaugh becomes more irritated with his neighbors, when he is trying to make coffee and the power goes out. (But more on that later)
Riggs asks Scorsese to see if he can find any inconsistencies in Miranda’s accident report. In the middle of their Conversation, Murtaugh comes in and tells Riggs that Elena bought a security camera and was watching Eddie.
When they get to the crime scene they find that the crime scene tape has been cut, and Hannah is inside. When Murtaugh and Riggs confront her, she gives them the camera but takes the SD card with her. When Murtaugh realizes this he chases after her, leaving Riggs to talk to Eddie on the phone. Murtaugh gets outside just in time to see Hannah’s car explode.
Scorsese informs Riggs that there are no inconsistencies in Miranda’s accident report, sending him into a dangerous spiral. Meanwhile, Murtaugh tells Trish he is worried about Riggs and she tells him to be there for Riggs.
After becoming frustrated with not being able to find anything in the case files to connect Eddie to Miranda’s death, Riggs has a flashback to Christmas with Miranda when she told him he was going to be a dad. ( I really enjoyed how the flashbacks were seamlessly intercut with present day). Murtaugh decides to go check on Riggs and arrives just in time to save his life.
After Bailey cracks the password on the SD card, Murtaugh and Riggs have enough evidence to arrest Eddie for murder. But things don’t go as planned when Eddie’s Uncle kidnaps Murtaugh’s family, forcing Riggs to let him go.
Murtaugh makes it home and tells Trish to cut the power using the coffee maker. (This was a really great callback to earlier in the episode and great way to give the power issues part of the story an actual purpose, and not have it be just something we see throughout the episode having to do with decorations.) Murtaugh is able to save his family and let Riggs know they are safe.
This causes him to threaten to kill Eddie if he doesn’t admit to killing Miranda, but before Riggs can get any answers out of him, Eddie’s uncle shoots him. When Riggs asks Eddie’s uncle for answers he won’t tell him either, he just says, “you weren’t that important in El Paso and you aren’t that important now”
He tells someone on the phone that Riggs asked about his wife and he told him the truth. ( I definitely think the character of Eddie’s uncle will be back at some point.) At the end of the episode Murtaugh and his family visit Riggs because he is a part of their family. Murtaugh puts the reindeer we see throughout the episode on Riggs roof which causes his trailer to lose power ( Which I thought was Funny). I thought this episode was fantastic and one of the best of the season so far.
