The answer to that question is “probably”. But things might change. Let’s summarize: Life Unexpected, while given high marks by critics when it premiered last season, wasn’t doing terribly well in the ratings. Nonetheless, The CW picked it up again for a second season and that premiered in September. But they only ordered 13 episodes for season 2. They also ordered fewer episodes this year for One Tree Hill. However, since premiere season is essentially over, The CW has put in full season orders for its two new shows for 2010 (Hellcats and Nikita) and returning One Tree Hill.
Life Unexpected, however, wasn’t so lucky. No additional episodes were ordered. Now Deadline.com is reporting that there will most definitely not be a back order for Life Unexpected. It’s currently the lowest rated show on the network. As of right now, the second season finale of Life Unexpectedis scheduled to air in January. The CW is reserving judgment on its fate until May, when it makes its final announcements about what shows will return in Fall 2011.
If it manages to produce several strong pilots for Fall 2011, then it’s likely Life Unexpected won’t get renewed. We’ve already heard about three never shows in development at The CW, including one based on the book series “The Secret Circle” (written by the same author as “The Vampire Diaries), another show produced by Michelle Trachtenberg and a final one produced by Samuel Jackson. There are also some rumors of other pilots in development for the network.
I’m afraid, Life Unexpected fans, that things don’t look so positive for your show right now, but we’ll have to see what happens. I honestly didn’t expect it to get picked up for a second season, but it did. We’ll have to wait until May to learn the fate of this show.
