LOST ends next year - sad, I know - and one man, LOST star Matthew Fox, claims to know just how the series will end. Or does he? With the fifth season not even out on DVD yet, Fox set the LOST news wires buzzing with his recent talk at the Monte Carlo TV Festival where he discussed the end of the show in terms of intimate knowledge. "I think it is going to be very satisfying and cathartic and redemptive and beautiful. I've talked to Damon pretty extensively and every time I talk to him it's sort of surprising how moving it is just to talk about it." Fox told the audience, and the internet was bursting at the seams with digital carbon copies of his quotes. Double entendres were debated, and the space between his words were measured for signs of a hidden Morse code message. Was LOST's lead really speaking the truth here? Maybe not.
Much of Fox's other comments about LOST season 6 (which can be seen here) seemed artfully contrived. For instance, when Fox describes the sixth season, which has not even been written yet let alone filmed, Fox describes it as "Amazing, incredibly satisfying, very surprising, and fairly confusing." A batch of verbiage that pretty aptly describes any episode of LOST, let alone season.
In a different venue, DeathRay magazine, creator Damon Lindelof seems to be countering Fox's knowledge of LOST's infamous end scene. When discussing the series finale, Lindelof said "Matthew Fox knows things that are relevant to Matthew Fox, and he isn't really interested in stuff that isn't relevant to him. He want's to know what's going to happen to Jack."
Maybe there is another explanation all together. Maybe Matthew Fox is just griefing us. Let's not forget that a few years back, Fox admitted to Men's Journal that he likes to deceive people. "I'm a liar and a cheat and a thief and the ultimate manipulator. I tell lies every day, man. And when I say I'm phenomenally manipulative, I am."
Fox could hardly be accussed of manipulating, or even wasting anybody's time with his talk of LOST's final season, for a fandom who is having a hard time cooling its jets having one of LOST's leads waxing ecstatic over what is so far, far away offers a bit of relief for this first league of the very long hiatus that separates LOST season 5 from LOST season 6. Yet, at this early stage of the game, his comments seem at best informed optimism, and at worst earnest hyperbole.
I find myself not really paying attention to any of his interviews because if he does know the end, I'd rather theorize than get any spoilers at this point…and if he doesn't…well, then I'll have wasted my time.

I think he knows the ending, because I think the ending has a lot to do with Jack. In a show that was originally supposed to be called "Circle" it would make sense that the last scene mirrored the first.
I go with Damon's assessment: he knows a little about it, probably whether Jack dies or not. The thing with "The Circle" is that it was never called that during a time period where the show was also going to be a fantasy/sci-fi show. "The Circle" was the name of a short treatment written by an exec at ABC. "The Circle" was still 'castaway the series,' although a lot of fans try to use the title to connect LOST to "Land of the LOST," or to bolster time loop theories.
I've heard the LotL stuff, but I don't really buy into it. I do think the circle analogy has a lot to do with it though. That aside…
It seems like both are telling the truth, Matthew Fox probably knows the end regarding Jack, so he can say he knows the end. Lindelof can say Fox knows only about Jack, but Jack could be a HUGE part of the ending. I thought that was a great interview, if only to hear how passionate he was talking about he show.
Absolutely. Any LOST buzz is good LOST buzz at this point. :D
Agree 150%….Only a little over a month until Comic-Con :)

One fact is incorrect in the above. The show has been fully written since last December. Damon and Carlton discussed more than once that prior to S5 airing they would already have the whole of the show through the Series FINALE written. Matthew Fox has maintained he knew the ending images since S1. I would not doubt that he does.
That is not exactly correct. They have the road map, the scripts have not been written. However, look at what became of the Dr. Chang video in the wake of that road map? So even the road map, apparently, is subject to change.

Oy. It's just a wee bit early for end of the show Lost spoilers. I hope he's just messing with people. I mean, many of us are folk who deeply analyze each episode for clues *cough cough* and the idea that an actor on the show might know the whole shebang is a little annoying. Not to mention putting a crimp in my plans for most of next year haha.
I could see writers, producers, etc knowing but I thought they had to sign agreements and stuff to keep the details on the downlow?
