LOST fans were a little nonplussed by last week's clip show (reviewing the history of the Oceanic 6 after they have already returned to the island seems a little... late), but it looks like this week's episode "The Variable" will more than satiate the additional week of anticipation. ABC has released three promo clips for the April 29th episode of LOST, and they reveal much - not only about what is coming, but about what has passed.
It appears that those LOST fans - and I'm one of them - who have been advocating a time loop theory are going to be getting a ton of validation this week. While we have seen a self consistency enigma with LOST's time travel forays, it appears that 'whatever happened, happened' isn't what should have happened. Follow that? Think of it this way, the famous time travel thriller "Time Crimes," which likely inspired LOST's temporal tom-foolery, explains the fact that you can see subsequent time trips having impact in a linear thread by attributing this point of view to an outside perspective.
For us, it is linear, even if for the participants it is not. The same logic, or something similar at least, would seem to apply to LOST. Daniel Faraday tells Jack he was not supposed to return to 1977, then the stringy tied scientist tries to convince Dr. Chang that the island needs to be evacuated completely - totally inconsistent with the history we know. Conclusion: history as we know it may have always included the losties going back in time, but that wasn't what was supposed to happen. Yeah, I know - still confusing, and to be sure possibly far from accurate. Watch these clips and let us know what YOU come up with. Visit our sister site, DocArzt.com, for more LOST goodness.
