LOST - Death Predictions (Light Spoilers)

If you thought that your favorite characters of ABC's top island drama are safe, you're wrong. Very, very wrong. Instead, it looks like a great deal of the characters will be killed off, according to a source at LOST spoiler site DarkUFO. "I can tell you there are lots of deaths this season," claimed the source, who allegedly has seen bits and pieces of the first nine episodes in their various stages of production.

"[I] will be amazed if there is anyone apart from Vincent, Smokey and Annie left at the end," the source said, saying that the smoke monster was "pretty badass" and is set to "wipe out" a lot of people.

Now, I think we all expected the great amount of deaths to occur in the season, but not this many so soon. Who's going to be biting the dust? Well, we haven't a clue. However, what we do have is the power of speculation. So here's a little list of season six's main cast, and what we think their chances are of kicking the bucket during the final season.

  • Hurley -- Not a chance. Hurley is the heart of the show, and we can't bring ourselves to imagine how the writers could kill this loveable geek. Chances are, he'll make it through to the end. We know that he makes it to at least episode twelve, which has been titled "Everybody Love Hugo" (another play on a season two title).
  • Jack -- Unless he dies in the finale, it seems unlikely that the show's closest thing to a main character will meet the reaper. Of course, the final episode is always a possibility. Until then? I wouldn't hold your breath.
  • Kate -- The same thing that applies to Jack applies to Kate.
  • Ilana -- This mysterious gal is on board to stay. However, once we've found out her relationship with Jacob (a hint of which we saw in "The Incident") and she's served her purpose, I think she'll bite the dust.
  • Sun -- I can't say I know what will happen to Sun. She's got a daughter off the Island, so it'll be especially tragic if she dies. However, I don't think that'll happen before a Sun/Jin reunion, and that will be toward the very end of the season.
  • Jin -- He's already had his "death" once before at the end of season four. It's late-season death or nothing for this former mobster.
  • Claire -- This Island mama has gone mysteriously Rousseau-like since she was last seen in season four. If she's not dead already, she'll probably stick around a while.
  • Desmond -- We've already gotten a pretty clear resolution to Desmond's story. So why is he coming back? That's a good question, but it's a given that he won't keep his happiness for long.
  • Locke -- Technically, the John Locke we all know is already dead. As for his doppelganger, Jacob's nemesis? We'll probably see some kind of physical end to this entity toward the end of the season.
  • Miles -- The freighter folk have been blinked out just as fast as the tail section survivors were. Chances are, a character with as useful a power as Miles won't be around very long.
  • Richard -- This ageless enigma will probably go before the season's over, because he's one of the biggest repositories of knowledge on the Island. And we know he can be killed -- just look at what happened to Jacob.
  • Sayid -- Sayid is so badass that if he doesn't die, it'll be a letdown to his legacy.
  • Ben -- What is the resolution of every tragic character? Redemption, then destruction. Ben will go at the end, and it will likely be one of the best death scenes of television ever. Probably the most tear-worthy too.
  • Sawyer -- What applies to Ben applies to Sawyer. He's going to go through some emotional changes after Juliet's death, and we'll probably see him go toward the end of the season. It's sure to be a heroic end, though.
What say you about my predictions? Am I right or wrong? How would you change my list? Put our comments section to good use.

  1. Sleepy says:

Great. I agree with the entire list except for Kate, Desmond, Claire, and Sawyer. I think Kate is more likely to die than Jack, and that Desmond, Claire, and Sawyer are not as likely to die as you say. Claire has some kind of tie to the island now, and Desmond's still "the constant"…. Really only time will tell.
