LOST Season Six Casting Call - Spoilers

lost-logoLOST Season Six is entering production and the first bit of spoilage has leaked onto the web. Maybe. Actually, it could be said that the LOST gang is the best player in the game when it comes to saturating their casting calls with artful misdirection.  When LOST is looking for a ruthless Widmore operative, for instance, they call for a "corporate recruiter."  Keeping that in mind, the details of this casting call - unearthed by EW's spoilermaestro Michael Ausiello - may speak loudly considering what we know about the players in LOST's game.  First, the casting call.

Lennon: Scruffy, edgy, charismatic, and slightly stir-crazy, Lennon can be deferential when it’s called for. He’s the spokesperson/translator for the president of a foreign corporation. He’s a wily negotiator, and far more powerful than his lowly position would seem to indicate. Recurring.

Taking this at face value, one might think Lennon works for Widmore, Paik, or even the Hanso Foundation.  Using our imaginations a little bit, Lennon could even be connected to the seemingly godlike beings that inhabit LOST's magical island.  Jacob, as it were, was scruffy, edgy, and charismatic - and 'slightly-stir-crazy' maybe LOST casting shorthand for something slightly superhuman - someone or something possessing a slightly exaggerated point of view. Considering that idea puts "far more powerful than his lowly position would seem to indicate" in an entirely new context.

My prediction: Lennon is the representative of whatever force Jacob answers to, that is none too happy about the Jughead incident.  Perhaps the gateway to the over-arcing mythology of LOST season 6.  Or perhaps, he's just what we think he is.  After-all, some of these casting notices turn out to be personae non gratae.  Since season 6 is still so far away, why don't we have a little fun and speculate.

This is INSANE! No doubt they used code-words here. Can't wait to see who Lennon turns out to be.

  4. My guess is that Lennon is Magnus Hanso, the first mate on the Black Rock.

Isn't it a little too late to be introducing new recurring characters? I'd rather they work the story with the pieces of the puzzle that they already have. Adding new blood this late in the game is counter intuitive.

If they must do this, I hope Lennon turns out to be Mr. Paik's most powerful lackey, because in this final season I want to see Paik (and after a coup, SUN) take center stage and set both Widmore & Linus off balance. At first he'd appear to kiss Paik's hindquarters but then we learn via flashbacks that he's surreptitiously enacting Sun's agenda.

This way the "Lennon" character would serve a much needed purpose among the characters we already have, and then can be easily disposed of after the plot strings are sufficiently tied together. We just need someone to speak on Paik's behalf who would later betray him to Sun.

If we could use Lennon to connect the dots between Libby and Jae Lee, that'd be a bonus. At this point characters should only be introduced who can answer questions and not pose new ones.

    ZachsMind–

They introduce new characters every season. Its part of the show now. Just because they're recurring doesn't mean they'll be getting a flashback or anything. To expand the universe, to explain the Others, to explain what Jacob and Un-Locke are, we need an expanded Lostverse, and new characters are necessary for that. We just killed off and will never see again quite a few recurring characters from Dharma days, Chang, Horace, that wormy guy who was also on Mad Men, Faraday, etc. I trust the producers here.

It wouldn't be someone connected to Jacob, because Jacob doesn't need a translator. He speaks (at least) three languages fluently. Hanso or Paik, on the other hand, may not speak English, so they would need translators.

"They won't be getting a flashback or anything." I'm betting a new character IS a flashback. The concept that Jacob answers to a higher force is new to me but makes sense from all the times Ben would say "everyone has a boss". Interesting.

one could substitute, instead of "stir-crazy", maybe "cabin-fevered"…
