I just get this sinking feeling that they're going to go back and just land the damn plane and Kate will carted off in chains and Boone and Shannon will still be arguing and John will still be in a wheelchair etc. and the previous five years won't have meant a damn thing, just a big waste of time and effort.

"The Dark Tower analogy always makes me nervous. I definitely don't want an ending like Dark Tower!"

I doubt Lindelof and Cuse will insert themselves in to the story as King did.

Flash-Betweens might make sense. Damon and JJ have both mentioned being big fans of Stephen King's The Dark Tower series, and in TDT King deals with a temporal paradox by having some characters remember *both* conflicting timelines. Those characters tend to be deeply troubled by their dual memories.

I like Mack's comments about the island existing across timelines. That makes a lot of sense, and may explain where the ghosts and voices come from.

This confirms what I have been thinking: everything that rises must converge. What Jacob appears to be doing is attempting to bring together all the parts, body and mind, from the multiple imaginary time lines and meld them into one cohesive existence that will then be brought back to the island for whatever purpose he has for them.

He is hoping to accomplish this by using the islands ability to exist in these various states of real and imaginary time.

One interesting side note: what happens when Aaron is born in the imaginary time line where the ocean 815 lands safely at LAX. Is he even named Aaron, and could we have already seen him as Jacob. Two Aarons/Jacobs= Man in Black and Jacob. A slim possibility but there is a chance.
