Thanks to spoiler site DarkUFO, we now know exactly how many characters are going to die before LOST begins its finale. After reading this, it made me wonder how fast LOST will start killing off the characters from here on out. It's no small number. If you don't want to spoiled for pretty major character details, do not read on! If you've stuck around, let's take a look.
There are going to be eight semi-major or major deaths before the finale begins. That's quite a large number, especially when taken out of a list of fourteen characters that came with the scoop. Here we go -- eight of these fourteen characters below will be DEAD (on the Island, not in the flash-sideways timeline) by the start of 6.17:
- Ben
- Ilana
- Richard
- Miles
- Sawyer
- Hurley
- Zoe (a character who will be introduced in next week's "Recon")
- Sayid
- Jin
- Desmond
- Widmore
- Claire
- Frank
- Sun
It seems to me like there are some characters on the list who are definite deadies, but no one on that list can be, by any stretch of the imagination, considered safe. I think Zoe, a relatively minor character, will be meeting the reaper, as probably will Ilana, who will serve a purpose on the Island and then be killed off by one of Man in Black's people.
Frank, as much as I love his character, might be one to bite the dust too, although his survival into the finale would be something I would welcome happily. A death of either Sun or Jin (but not both) seems likely, especially since I believe (and this is a theory, not a spoiler) that Ji Yeon is actually the candidate.
Sayid seems to be one that might be leaving as well, considering he'll probably be a minor antagonist of the season but not one that the finale needs to focus. He might get a redemption before he goes, though.
