LOST's sixth season might be losing a little bit of momentum as it approaches the show's final batch of episodes. Episode fourteen of the season will not air on April 27 as previously expected. Instead, it will be pushed back a week and will air on May 4, two weeks after episode thirteen, which will air April 20. So what will be airing in that timeslot on April 27? No, it's not some major event like the Olympics or a Presidential address. They'll simply be replaying episode nine of the season, "Ab Aeterno." I mean, sure, it's a good episode, but do we really want to see that instead of a new episode? Of course not. Like Charlie (pictured right), we'll be jonesing for a fix before those two weeks are up.
What this means for the last few episodes of LOST will actually be a series first, though. Episode 6.15 will air on May 11, Episode 6.16 will air May 18, and the series finale, episodes 6.17/6.18, will air on May 23, the Sunday following episode 6.16. This will be the first time we've had two episodes of the series aired within one week. Ironically, the episode which will have the most suspense attached to it will also have the shortest wait time of any episode.
It's not the first time LOST has gone on hiatus midseason. It was a common occurrence during the first and second seasons. However the most excruciating wait came in season three, after which featured a painful break only six episodes into the season. I suppose we can be thankful that situation has been avoided since then, but don't we have shorter seasons so we won't have as many breaks?
I suppose it doesn't matter that much, but the break will seem very unnatural as the series ramps up its final five hours. Whatever the case may be, I'm excited to see how these last few episodes play out. Who knows? Perhaps this scheduling change will make the cliffhanger at the end of 6.13 much more meaningful.

This is silly. I can understand them taking a week off to push the finale deep into May sweeps; I don't like it, but I can understand why they would do it. What I don't understand is why they would move the finale to Sunday. Everyone is used to Tuesday by this point. We should stick with it. Plus, my wife works Sunday nights, and I'm not sure she could forgive me for watching the LOST finale while she's at work.
It's a stop-gap to tweak effects and extra editing time for the final episode. If they need extra time to do things right – not rushed – then let them take the time they need. This show is the best thing on American TV at the moment. Let's not have them ruin it just to get things over with too quickly. Take your time guys and gals and do the show proud.
I'm not happy about a break at all, but if my theory is correct, next week's episode is going to end up being shocking enough to make the wait extra unbearable.
There is a very specific reason why they are doing this if you know what the upcoming episodes are about. The episode to air after the hiatus is "Across the Ocean" which is an episode centered around Jacob & The Man in Black. It says above that "Ab Aterno" will air during the hiatus, probably because they want to give everyone a chance to see it because the events in it are so important in terms of the events of "Across the Sea" and they don't want anyone who might have missed "Ab Aeterno" to be confused at the events of the new episode.
I agree it's annoying but Lindelof and Cuse have a reason for everything.
Actually, the episode right after the mini hiatus will be "The Candidate", with "Across the Sea" airing the week after that.
And you should've probably posted that you were spoiling the centricity of "Across the Sea"
Tell her to skip work (like a cool person) or tough it out. Why the hell does she work in on Sunday at 9 pm anyways? That's lame.
I guess everyone has forgotten they did this in season 5 as well.
And they did it in Season 4 because of the Writer's Strike…A break has happened every season, yet everyone always treats it as a surprise. I'm not saying I love the thought of a week without a new episode of Lost, but it's just one week. Seasons 1 & 2 had multiple breaks for 1-4 weeks at a time, season 3 had that horrendous 3 month break, we had an 8-month break between seasons 3 & 4, followed by a month break after the 8th episode of season 4, another 8 month break before season 5, and two 1 week breaks during season 5…followed by the most excruciating 8 month break before season 6. I'm not worried about one week.
[...] They’re not going to be running Episode 14 of LOST on April 27 as previously planned, but have pushed it out another week. [...]
"What I don't understand is why they would move the finale to Sunday."What may be more important is that that Sunday is May 23rd. 23 is Jack's candidate number. I'm wondering if this is the reason they chose this Sunday of all days.
Is this serious? I don't really think it is. The finale is a big event. They want everyone to see it. Hmm, weird but, what is the perfect night for almost everyone to be able to see it? Most people don't work sundays or even sunday nights. It's an ideal timeslot for a huge finale event.
"Ab Aeterno" has been a highlight of season six and Jacob's talk with Richard is one of my all-time favorite moments of the series, highlighting the series' outstanding status to communicate ethical values while never being annoyingly preachy. Definitely an episode worthwhile repeating for general audiences and frankly I appreciate the chance to lean back, meditate on previous events and use the stop to brace for what's coming next.Is there any chance LOST aficionados could expect an extended or possibly different edit of this particular episode? The series has been so darn innovative and bold, that such a thing would add an incredibly nice touch.Namaste!
Ab Aeterno was a great episode, but it can be viewed elsewhere for people who missed it. It's one thing to play with your audiences patience, it's quite another to treat them with cruelty. Personally, I hope they lose their ratings. If Lost fans weren't so desperate and dependent on their fix, they could really get a message through to these jokers in charge of programming. I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm tired of being led on for years by dishonest, unethical, manipulators. It's enough that the writers have been disingenuous with their fans. It adds insult to injury to lead people on and not deliver a cogently written series of intelligible scripts with integrity, and not via post hoc ergo propter hoc rationale. Any writer who makes stuff up as they go along and simultaneously proclaims they haven't, while leanwhile declaring a concern for the integrity of their storytelling, is at the very least pathetic liar of not a fraud. Sure, every once in a blue moon the lost writers pull off the semblance of quality in story telling – the rest of the time they simply keeping us guessing and leading us endlessly through a jungle of lame dialogue and misdirection. Please put us out of our misery already and give us our lousy payoff – we've earned it and you owe it to us. Afterall, if it weren't for us, your fans, we wouldn't have wasted 6 years of our lives investing out time in the hope this potentially good premise might actually GET better. End it now please.
Ah, yes. Hospital staff, firefighters, 911 operators, police, pharmacists… they're all so lame. No wait, what was lame was your deprecating someone for having a job and being honest enough to go to it instead of blowing it off for entertainment.
But they're not pushing the date of the finale back. They're just pausing midstream and then showing two episodes close together. Kind of a head-scratcher.
LOST did this last year in the same month guys. I think either after or before the variable they skipped a week. Its so LOST will end later(we wouldve gone that same time basically for the finale) I dont mind it being on a sunday as that monday is memorial day so I won't have school. Talk about LOST party.
Dude take it easy, you should appreciate the fact a series of this magnitude ever existed. The beauty of the series is to have "us guessing" and create theories of our own. What's the point in explaining the entire series in two or three seasons? A great story requires time and patience , from both the creators and audience, my friend. Nothing is lame or misdirecting (in the your sense) about the jungle scripts or the entire Lost series, for that matter, except for the addition of Nicky and Paulo in season three. Patience my fellow Lostie.
Well, for better or worse, may 4 is my birthday ;))
Ha nice. You sure showed that jerk who's boss.
Isn't most tv shows taking a week break at the same time?

The reason they're are doing this is so that the finale will be during sweeps, and this wouldn't happen without a break between episodes. its better now than waiting two weeks for the finale.
its quite obvious why they are doing this, that means the finale will air on 4/23 ha ha
oh wait no, 5/23, my bad
[...] It looks like Lost’s non-stop season will actually be making one previously unscheduled pause. ABC is planning to re-run the Richard Alpert-centric episode, “Ab Aeterno,” on April 27 as a calm before the coming storm. Or maybe it’s just so all the remaining episodes — airing on May 4, 11, 18 with the series finale set for May 23 — can land in May sweeps. Hey, even the Dharma Initiative has to worry about ad sales. [TV Over Mind] [...]
I'd rather they not air an episode at all that night, than give us something out of sequence. That's a momentum killer, and would be like going back and re-reading a chapter of a book when you only have a few more chapters to go. Oh well, I just won't watch that night and will wait for the next new episode.
I thought the delay had to do with the NBA Playoffs. There is a possible game 7 on Tuesday and ABC has part of the contract as well as some local afiiliates.
Let me get this straight. They are taking it off the air for a week… to re-air an episode shown a few weeks ago? In what bizzare world does this make sense? I don't see the point to this at all. Seriously what the hell?
Actually, the first time 2 new episodes were aired within one week was when "The Lie" was shown in the hour directly after the season 5 premiere, "Because You Left".
FYI, Memorial Day is the 31st, not the 24th
Couldn't the NBA game be pushed to ESPN? It's only the first round.
[...] No new Lost next week? And they didn’t even warn us? The rest of the season runs straight through after that (13-21 [...]
No, ABC isn't airing any midweek games until the NBA Finals. There's no chance of that.

Hahahahawhat a loser. How is it, with all the suffering in the world, there can exist such an ungrateful infant like this at something that is free. What a glutton.
So, the final episode will air on May 23rd. Jack's candidate number on the wall in the cave is 23. Coincidence? I think not.
I don't know if someone mentioned this, but I think they are skipping a week because of the finale of Survivor being Sunday the 16th? Just a thouhgt.
mistake it is called across the sea
they are skipping next week because Dancing with the Stars is running a 90 min episode and Lost will start late. do some research!
haha ur an idiot guy…dont watch then
I agree with disgruntled completely. This show was a great idea, but it seemed to turn into a trap for viewers. Get those coveted 18-45 viewers on the hook and rake in the marketing dollars. Seasons 1-4 were great. Then it bottomed out at the 5th. With four episodes left, I don't see this coming to a satisfying conclusion. And i must say, the people who are responding to disgruntled are the viewers ABC just loves: ones who are loyal no matter what.
I guess that the cliffhanger of 6.13 was epic enough to have a one week hiatus. But it doesn't make up for the fact that there is a one week break. I mean they kind of make it up to us by having the finale air a couple days after the second to last episode. That's good because then people have a whole day to prepare for the end instead of having to work or go to school during their anticipationtorture of the hours before it airs lol. I'd rather be sitting home watching my favorite episodes while waiting then working or going to school looking at the clock every 5 seconds waiting for the work day to end haha.
Well said!
