Unless you're a hardcore internet surfer, you've probably never heard of Jimmy Wales. But chances are, you've heard of his creation, something that has fundementally changed the internet forever. I'm talking about Wikipedia, the online encyclopedia that Wales co-created along with Larry Sanger.

But now, Wales (pictured left) is hoping to have an impact on television. The entrepreneur, also a member of the LOST fansite Lostpedia, recently posted a blog stating that he wanted more LOST. However, unlike most fans who complain about the end of the series, Wales actually has the power to do something about it: he knows J.J. Abrams.

Of course, it's no secret that Abrams' involvement with the series has been minimal since season one. However, Wales still believes that it's worth a shot to talk to Abrams, as evidenced by this blog post he made on Lostpedia.

I'm pretty sad that Lost is coming to an end. And I had an idea.

I know J. J. Abrams personally, not well, but I see him once a year. I would love to hand-deliver a massive petition to him, organized by Lostpedia, asking him to make Lost movies, or... well, why don't we vote on what to ask him, and then rally the entire Internet to ask him? Can't hurt, and could be fun. :)

I personally disagree with Wales; I think it could hurt. More LOST would be a bad thing that could potentially ruin the legacy of the series that was smart enough to choose its own end. However, since he left the subject of what to petition J.J. open, I think it could be interesting to petition something of Abrams via Wales.

I wouldn't hestitate to ask Abrams to sign on as a producer of the Terry O'Quinn/Michael Emerson series which O'Quinn is currently shopping to TNT. What would you petition Abrams for? Or rather, what would you have Wales petition Abrams for?

Sam, I agree that Lost itself should not continue, but depending on how the series ends, there might be a good opportunity for a prequel, or some other story that's set in the Lost multi-verse. I'm sure ABC/Disney/Bad Robot are throwing around ideas on how to keep the franchise alive as well. Direct to DVD movies have worked out well for other series (like Futurama & Stargate).By the way, your story has been added to Lostpedia News. Feel free to adjust the newsblurb as you like.

  2. DRedmon says:

I am all in but only if JJ writes it! Sign my name on the petition or tell me where I can contribute.

  3. lostmesa says:

No way. LOST as it is now should end. However, another story set in the canon of Lost would be fine with me, if possible after the show's ending.

  4. lostmesa says:

Besides, isn't this a little insulting to Damon and Carlton? Lost is really their show. It's cool that he cares this much though.

  5. sarahkinzz says:

I concur with the writer of this article. More LOST would be bad- it would undermine the significance and conclusion of the series. Let the show go with dignity! It knew when it was time to end.

  6. step says:

More Lost would be a terrible idea, and asking JJ to do so would be even worse. Lost is what it is because of Carlton and Damon. JJ just gave them the beginning, they gave us the show that we love.

  7. docarzt says:

I would totally support a new take on the island. I'm all dharma'd and jacob'd out, but if they could find a new and refreshing approach… i'm in.

  8. [...] Jimmy Wales, founder of Wikipedia, has offered to hand deliver a petition for more LOST to J.J. Abrams.  Seems Wales is on the side of the aisle that isn’t [...]

  9. whes says:

Leave well enough alone and let the series end as the creators want it to. I am an enormous fan and I am just fine letting it go. Stories need to end sometime. Please don't be one of those people who can't seem to let things go. When Lost is over, we can all just move on and look forward to the next exciting series that's bound to show up some time.

  10. JJStrange says:

As I was reading the comments, I couldn't help but wonder the same thing. Damon and Carlton have worked their asses off and have put in the hours and hard work. I love J.J. Abrams don't get me wrong, he is awesome…(Loved Alias xoxo) and he gave Damon and Carlton some solid material to work with and they took it from there. So if anything, kudos to all 3 of them (Mind Body Soul) =) Their minds work so well together that they were able to create this great show we know and love <3

  11. atfullspeed says:

No Way. Leave it alone. I think Carlton and Damon have done an amazing job so far, and I'm sure if there's anything spectacular that could come after Lost, something that could do it justice, then they'll bring it to the table themselves.

  12. docarzt says:

I think in the sense that JJ is Bad Robots head, it is a valid maneuver. The other aspect is that Damon and Carlton have made it clear that THEY are done. So it would sort of make sense to court someone earlier in the skein.

  13. LOST is ending. Accept it. It's been a great ride, but all good things must come to an end. I'd rather have good LOST than one that went on for far too long. This is the story that Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse wanted to tell. They are the ones that have been running this show and working very hard on for the past six years. They deserve to end it the way that they want to. As sad as I am that it is ending, I respect what they're doing. This guy should too.

  14. lockespoorrightleg says:

without a doubt, the one thing they need to do is a comprehensive, beginning-to-end Lost video game – where you actually play as the main characters as their stories intertwine on-and-off island, etc…. it would be terribly complicated to create/plot, but how satisfying for us hardcore lost fans! if they stayed true to the story, and simply allowed you to step into those roles and play within the action, it could be a great follow-up. as for movies, etc…i don't think so. let the story as it will.

  15. mirror says:

something will come along and you'll all forget lost. while you're at it – go get some sun you freaks.

  16. Ricardo Pagliaro Tho says:

I believe that if ABC decides to continue the story after the end of it, it'll be a bloody mess, it'll spoil the whole thing! Lost, like all great, fantastic and epic stories of all existence MUST end, and the producers are well awared of that! But, if ABC's plans is to do something with the previous established cannon, I think I have no objections, I'm also in favor of doing… I dunno… I videogame, perhaps. I mean, sure that they already did Via Dome, but I think this time they could think about an open world MMO for PC and consoles, just like DC Universe Online, I'm totally waiting for this game. So, a game about Lost would certainly be a great idea.Another good idea would be an adaptation of Bad Twin, and maybe, just maybe, the other books, like Endangered Species, Signs of Life and Secret Identity. I mean, a feature-film adaptation of each book, not another series. That idea, I would certainly approve if it comes on the right hands.Comic book renditions, if done right, would be also great, I mean, everything that takes the cannon and expanded it could certainly be good. I mean, not great, but at least the show would earn some extra life. What IS wrong by all means is to continue the story, specially if the original cast, producers and writers are not involved. This would certainly ruin the series' reputation. So my message for Mr. Wales is: man, drop that idea!! For God's sakes, drop it!! Let me miss the thing I love the most! Let me relish for some time the story I've just followed before people starts to forget it! There's no use of ripping off the show with a sequel, man! Knock it off!

  17. Don't do this, Wales. LOST is coming to an end on its own terms. Let's not turn it into season 9 of Scrubs, please.

  18. Jon says:

I think they should do an animatrix style set of vignettes that were written by the show's staff ,and are official canon. I for one would love to know more about Alvar Hanso, Dharma, the others, just the history of the island in general.

  19. Drew says:

Yeah, no more seasons of LOST-but if the series ends with something that presents a natural opportunity for a sequel or spin-off, then I wouldn't mind if they took it.

  20. Runciter says:

    NOT a good idea

  21. buttface says:

Definitely don't want more Lost. I love the series (best show easy) and I'll be sad when it ends, but not as sad as I'd be if they intentionally stretched it out. I'd be especially pissed if we had to wait for a movie to see the actual series ending.

  22. Terri says:

I would petition for the Miles/James Ford Cop show.

  23. DWG says:

oh petition to jj abrams to petition to stephen king to give jj the rights for "the stand" and he can turn it into a television show for, HBO!!!

  24. Professor_Askew says:

I posted this response on docarzt.com:"I am absolutely all for more Lost in any capacity. I would be particularly interested in another limited TV series as well as novels. No sequel or prequel, no matter how terribly produced, could take away, or dilute, my experience of these past six seasons. And I can rewatch them anytime I want for the rest of my life. But, nobody could convince me that a clever enough creative team couldn’t come up with another great idea for a new show. Lost was the most tangential show ever created for television. Surely, there is gold in them thar hills. As long as they find a team that can maintain a similar sensibility (don’t turn it into a cartoon of itself), I have no doubt that it can be done."-Professor Askew-

  25. Not that Ben says:

I don't believe for one minute that LOST is about to end. Damon and Carlton have said the character's story will end in the finale entitled, "The End". But the one thing we can count on from the storytelling so far is no character's story ever ends on LOST. The story goes on — even in death, through ethereal doubles, apparitions and flashes in every direction. Given this history, it's difficult to see how ANY character's story, or more precisely, EVERY character's story — could end with any kind of finality. Then there's the island, new people seem to find their way there all the time. Are we to believe that no one else will ever find the island again, that the fuselage will not be discovered by some future inhabitants who will wonder what became of the people that were on that plane, just as the Black Rock and Adam and Eve were a mystery to the current cast?Every season so far has turned on a vessel exploding at the end. There have been explosions under water (the submarine and the Looking Glass), explosions on the water (the raft, the freighter), explosions on the ground (the Flame), explosions underground (the hatch — twice, three times if you count the implosion). Every kind of vessel explosion you can have, it's been done — except one.In the air. So that's how it ends, with everyone (except Rose, Bernard and Vincent of course) flying off in the Ajira plane with the MIB and a bag of dynamite from the Black Rock. And together, the candidates light the fuse — the only way to stop the MIB. The cycle complete, the plane blows up midair and that's that — The End. Except. In all those other explosions — someone ALWAYS survives.LOST

  26. Mrs.Keamy says:

I love Lost but no television show should last for more than 5 or 6 seasons. After that it becomes disastrous.

  27. tasha1269 says:

I don't think so either. If you listen to the LOST podcast they give you the impression that there is more LOST to come. Me personally, I'll take as much of LOST that I can get my hands on….everything else of television sucks!

  28. csg16 says:

Not neccessary a movie or a tv show (though that woulb be great),but another video game (or more) would be awesome

  29. Caleb Stead says:

GRAPHIS NOVEL!!! You don't have to worry about actor/actress/director/producer contracts… you don't have to worry about actors bailing on the characters before their arc is done (Echo and Libby)… you don't have to worry about aging actors (Walt)… you could examin the rare and unknown characters more (Mitlos, Hanso, the Dharma Initiative in Michigan)… there is plenty of untapped material from the orginal series that could be concluded with a graphic novel… so there would be no need to create a new story arc… and we could get every last answer we actually wanted (what was Faraday doing in Michigan, what happened to Chang and Horce, what was the island like before dharma got there, who built the statue, what was the island like when charles ran it)… so much untapped potential.

  30. ameliacirone says:

we were told there would be a zombie season, let's start there

  31. ttttttttt says:

I'm hoping to see some Lost graphic novels from Marvel in the future. It's owned by Disney now, and a few of the writers on the show have written for Marvel before.

  32. lost815316 says:

Oh my god… are you serious? I love lost, don't get me wrong..I mean i'm completely obsessed, but NO that's a horrible idea. I completely agree that it would ruin the legacy. I would never sign that petition. I'm sorry.

  33. Josh says:

    Never Forget.(Moment of Silence)

  34. Crash says:

I could see potential for great stories from somewhere else in the Lost universe, but I really think the characters that we know need to see an end. Even if that end may be something other than what we excpect, of even better if it's not really an end. But to continue the story as we know seems like it would be forced. If the last 3 seasons have been laid out to bring us to this end, slapping on an addition could be disastrous. I'd love to see much more about the Dharma Initiative, maybe even other than what took place on the island. I would hate to have the past 6 seasons get ruined by some horrible tacked on storyline

  35. HayJay says:

Lost basically is just one really long movie. Even in season 1 you can't really jump into an episode and get whats going on – you really have to watch the whole thing. Shows like House, you can just watch one ep. at a time, and be fine. (Most shows are kind of adopting that scheme now though, arent they?) So a Lost movie? bad idea. there already is one. don't make a sequel.

  36. Nehemoth says:

I would as for an animate (or real) series of Lost to answer the LOSTpedia unanswered questions

  37. logan_mac says:

I'd like more Lost but not with the same characters, just some backstory of the Island maybe…and I don't know if i'd like it to be in "film", maybe just a comic book or graphic novel you know. Also I don't know why Jimbo will ask Abrams for more Lost, he has nothing to do with Lost anymore, he just gave some basic ideas for the first 13 episodes of the first season, and co-wrote the season 3 premiere (which was the weakest premiere of all according to TV.com)…from that onwards he hasn't done anything for Lost.

  38. Robert says:

I'd ask JJ for a few more episodes.People in the show are acting like they were in haste.Such thing only lessens the impression given by this unique show.More time would give them a opportunity to perform better. From what I noticed thay are great actors. For the last 5 series I was kept in front of TV and later DVD for hours, while being happy with it.And now everything is happening so fast in such chaos.i.e. take a look at the scene in "Ab Aeterno": Jacob and his opponent (Yin and Yang) are performing so fast. In previous series we could see them relaxed no matter what would happen.I just think that you should consider making a few extra hours of LOST.This show does not deserve to be worsened by lack of a few (so needed) hours at the end.The end that should be great culmination of the greatest TV Show ever.

  39. Mechadon says:

I wouldn't want to see anything continuing the story of Lost. My preference would be a Lost movie that takes place before the show. Way before. About the ancient inhabitants of the island, and whatever conflicts they had.

  40. kenbrain says:

Omg love this. I can visualize this happening.

  41. Tom Holmes says:

Maybe a new TV series that's a sequel to the Lost Experience ARG? We never did find out what happened to Thomas Mittelwerk after all.

  42. Kyle_K says:

I just want him to keep going with Fringe. Jimmy Wales is an idiot; Lost needs to end this season, if they do anymore it will ruin it.

  44. Dezzy says:

As a massive fan of all things LOST i will be sad to see it go as I wont be able to watch an episode anymore with that initial surprise and anticipation. But regardless of that I DO NOT want to see anyone milk the franchise for all it is worth as it's been proven throughout almost all media that it isn't a good idea. Leave it be!

  45. Oops says:

I was told by people of the filming crew on O'ahu that the series ends but that there will be a movie…

  46. lostmesa says:

    I don't think so.

  47. b.wilson says:

How about getting JJ to direct the final hours of the series. He directed the pilot episodes, and it would be great to have him back to finish it.

  48. SamMcPherson says:

No, that would infuriate so many fans. May 23rd should be the end of it all.

  49. SamMcPherson says:

Jack Bender directed the finale (and deservedly so).

  50. Ryan says:

Anything extra added to the LOST mythology after the show has ended would be a travesty. No question about it.

  51. DCLC says:

Why people give JJ Abrams so much credit for Lost is beyond me. Real credit goes to Damon and Carlton for everything they've done. It's insulting to credit Abrams for the success of the show.

  52. Ella says:

Damon and Carlton have been absolutely forthright about the end of Lost. It is definitely going to end, and so it should. It's an unparalleled drama, but if it drags on and on it will lose its momentum.I honestly don't understand other posters who insist that Lost is not on the brink or resolution. Few true fans would want it to continue even if it was a possibility – it's a story that needs a powerful and resolute conclusion. I'll be desolate when it ends, but I also think it will impress fans with a sense of closure and peace.

  53. Phil R says:

It's only natural that you never want a good thing to end. I can agree with why people would want more LOST but I don't think it should be extended. As great as story writers as the LOST team are it's better to finish something and remember is being an excellent piece of television, than to tack a couple of extra series that serve no purpose than to milk a franchise for all the money its worth. So many TV series have been ruined by people not knowing when to stop.

  54. Frank Thomas says:

First things, first would be my suggestion: let's all enjoy the finale, reflect on it and letting it sink from your conscious to your unconscious.Carlton and Damon seem to be very well aware that the SW prequels didn't do the original trilogy such a great favor and I will hopefully spare LOST a similar fate. And though I'm probably one of these few individuals on this planet who disliked the latest STAR TREK movie immensely, but truly appreciate LOST with all my heart, I'd rather go along these lines: "Sometimes less is actually a lot more"

  55. Yaremus says:

When The Prisoner ended in the 60's, McGoohan was forced to leave the country because of the public outcry at the final episode, People felt cheated! It turned out to be an allegory and most people didn't understand it. McGoohan was delighted with the anger and arguments it incited. He felt he had done his job well and that was that. Over 40 years later people still discusss and argue over that show…and that was just 17 episodes. Let LOST end and then it will truly live on in the same way that The Prisoner has.

  56. apb01230 says:

STFU Jimmy whatever. I'm fairly confident that JJ won't listen to him. The next major LOST thing will be a remake in 15 years or so. At least I hope so.

  57. CJ says:

WTF this is a horrendous idea! don't drag the best television show on earth to the dirt :(

  58. Hurleybird says:

No movie, no new series, no books, no graphic novels, no video game: Think bigger: THEME PARK ATTRACTION. I think Erika Olsen had this idea in her recap of "Recon" – Disney owns the LOST franchise, and it owns two world-class destination theme parks, so why not build a real live LOST Experience" and we can all go LIVE the show, rather than see it continue in some half-assed fashion! The possibilities are immense: Ride from the "mainland" to the Island in the Galaga, get off at the Pala Ferry dock and walk thru the Dharma welcome center, ride the SmokeMonster Rollercoaster and fly all over the Island like Smokey, explore cool hatches and New Otherton, check out the Temple, canoe in an outrigger over to Hydra Island… I have no plans nor desire to go to Disneyworld or Disneyland, but if they opened a LOST attraction?! Holy hell, dude, I would start planning my trip today!! PETITION!

  59. GiveMeABreak says:

That is a terrible idea. No character's story has ended because THE SHOW hasn't ended. You make it sound like the story and characters aren't entirely in the hands of the writers. Leave the storytelling to the people who know how to do it.

  60. robertazimmerman says:

I am probably in the minority here, but I have found the last couple of seasons to be quite silly. I would like to see the series end on May 23rd as I think that the plot twists are simply getting dumb.

  61. mattdoberman says:

    Amen! Zombie Season Seven!

  62. Mike says:

No. No. NO. I am a huge Lost fan as well. However, I can how destructive forced continuation and sequals are to any story arc and any production.

  63. S. Svensson says:

If lost will go on after this "final" season, will it even be good? I have big fears for the Twin Peaks syndrome.

  64. McOz says:

I think the main story line is over, you don't want to do what "scrubs" did. If your going to continue in the lost universe i wouldn't be impartial to that, depending on the fate of the island, but if that island is not the only special island i wouldent be impartial to a new set of characters on a new island with a decent story, not repeating the others and stuff. if they wanted to include the DHARMA initiative i would be ok with that.

  65. Mike in NJ says:

    Law and Order? The Simpsons?

  66. Mike in NJ says:

That being said, I think Lost should end as the current plan has it.

  67. Daryl says:

  68. John Jacob Jingle says:

I don't know how good any spin off or thing like that would be.. but so many people are into it.. it'd be like another BSG or Star Trek.. it could keep going with different casts and the same universe..What I would have liked was 8 seasons. 6 isn't enough..and you can see it by how they're rushing everything.. nice 5 seconds "OH THIS IS WHAT THE WHISPERS ARE EXACTLY".. and from what I hear, it doesn't get any better with the other answers.. (I hear the smoke monster creation story is pretty lame, but I withhold judgment until I see it for myself.)

  69. I love Damon and Car says:

I love the show, love Darlton.. but they OBVIOUSLY had no idea what the mysteries were and had to fill in big gaps as they went along. One guy said the Whispers were supposed to just be the Others originally.. and see how that evolved. In S1 they said "No time travel" and then it shows up in S5. "No purgatory" yet the whispers are in purgatory on the island.. and hence michael is.So many things you can just tell they made up as they went along, despite saying how they weren't doing it. It's so disappointing, because if they really knew THIS was going to go down exactly as it did in S1, it wouldn't be so contradictory.. and they expect us to believe that, how naive do they think we are?

  70. Big Love says:

And congratulations on making the "Joey" of the Lost world.the only thing that ever works well is a bit player that gets a bigger role.. like Frasier.. So I'd have to go with the whole sideways world with Leslie, Alex, Ben, and Locke.. just show that life.. F the Island and Jacob and E-Money.

  71. fdgljfddfs says:

It's insulting not too… because without him, and I'm not a fan of his personally, the show would have never existed. He stepped in, breathed it life with Damon, and then turned it over.. He deserves gratitude from fans, not animosity. Also, where the hell do you think this Smoke Monster, Whispers, Giant Foot, and so on came from? It came from Mr. Mystery himself.. J.J. Abrams.. and then he let Damon and Carlton work for 4 seasons to try to figure out what the answers would end up being.

  72. hey says:

JJ has nothing to really do with LOST anymore. He just started it. I think he should back Terry and Michael's new show though

  79. I have TONS of friends who want a Hurley spin off! It wouldn't have to do anything with the island, but Jorge Garcia is amazing and funny and needs to extend his Hurley-ness even further!!!

  80. jaredtrautman says:

LOST the comic book. It can fill in the gaps in the storyline over the years, introduce characters who were once candidates and play it all out. This is the END of LOST as we know it, what is currently happening on TV/ABC. But we can still have the whole story played out for us, everything that happened before Oceanic 815…I personally don't feel that there should be "LOST MOVIES"…but maybe a comic book, maybe a soap opera where the history of the island is filled. A lot more can be done with LOST, as long as they take it from the correct approach. Maybe there could be a different series: LOST: The Chronicles of Jacob…he travels and chooses someone, then we have an episode with that person and it plays out, we get their whole story, beginning to end. Maybe there could be LOST: The Beginning…setting up everything that will come…there are numerous options that can happen. Just throwing ideas…comic books would be a great medium, you can do anything and still keep it true to story without overproduction costs and whatnot

  81. jaredtrautman says:

I agree, the Miles and Sawyer cop episode was something I said, I can definitely watch if it were a series

  82. HarryRKO says:

The simpson doesn't have a continuing storyline, Lost does. Law and Order is Shi t

  83. UnLocke the Flocke says:

terrible, horrible, ridiculous idea… I love the fact that, during season three, they set a timeline to end it after six seasons. It's a classy move that shows the writers dedication to the story and ending it properly. Dragging it on forever is a cheap and greedy move that benefits nobody … unless your an ABC bean counter.

  84. Bill says:

I'm all for a movie! Make it totally seperate from the series; that way, it if bombs, it won't affect the TV series legacy. This could be hit and miss but I'm guessing hit since there are SO many fans! People would go just out of curiosity! Come on – if Sex in the City has 2 movies, Lost can't?????

  85. baabs says:

    petition for LOST encyclopedia

  86. Nevermore says:

Abrams has repeatedly made it clear that he not only has not had any creative input on the show for years, but he also thinks it's really Damon and Carlton's baby now and he doesn't want to take it away from them so close to the finishing line. So if Damon and Carlton say the show ends after season 6, Abrams will fully accept that. And I'm cool with that too.You know what happens when a show is continued even though the main story is told? Babylon 5 season 5.

  87. theislandstation says:

"one guy" said the whispers were supposed to be the others.well that one guy didnt write the show did he -,-, you cant base things off of what you heard from someone.we all thought the whispers were supposed to be the others because in s1 you only heard them when the others were supposedly, but then we heard them even when they werent too so i think that proves early on that the whispers were never supposed to be the others directly

  88. idk says:

create a new series with the same mystery premis that LOST has

  89. Where do I sign ?I don't believe ABC or thte creative team behind it would do serious damage with some sort of prequel, video games, symphony, making of,etc

  90. Karl says:

the show wasnt that cool people. the mysteries hyped up by the first 2-3 seasons inflated big time by the time season 5-6 rolled around. the ISLAND and its mysterious properties/history was what made the show interesting, not the mundane flunkies that ended up being supposed focal point of the later deemed "character driven show". get over it people, its done.. it was a very nice production and obviously had a lot of work put into it but the overall "OOMPH" of the story based on all the hype/anticipation fell flat on its face. TV fans of course will want more cause they cant get out of their small world of watching TV with their generic stories. i think Genesis wrote a song about it called "TURN IT ON" for this exact "syndrome"
