FX realizes they have something special on their hands with Louie, the critically acclaimed comedy from Louis CK which chronicles his depressing, ordinary life as a comedian. They’ve just signed a new contract with CK in order to ensure they can draw even more blood from the stone.
Here’s what FX has to say about the new deal via Deadline:
“Working with Louis CK has been one of the most rewarding and enjoyable experiences of my career,” said John Landgraf, CEO of FX Networks and FX Productions. “So many incredibly talented artists want to work with Louis and follow down the independent and idiosyncratic creative trail he has blazed. I can’t wait to see who he brings through our door, not to mention any new projects that he wants to create for us.”
So to be clear, this isn’t a new show starring Louis CK, it’s him developing a show for the network and passing it off to others to handle while he executive produces (ie. doesn’t do much). It’s certainly great they’re getting some new ideas from him, but don’t expect this to be Louie II, or anything. That said, FX knows good comedy (more so than the networks these days, I would argue), so I’m excited to see what they come up with.
