Starz has released two new teasers for the second season of period drama Magic City, as well as key art featuring star Jeffrey Dean Morgan. However, there aren’t many, if any, clues found in the material, which features Morgan against a cool teal background and the tagline “Gangster’s Paradise”. As we saw in season one of the Mitch Glazer-created drama, power in Miami is a drug to those who have it and an aphrodisiac for those who don’t and will stop at nothing to ascend to the top of the food chain. This, of course, tends to bring a lot of very nefarious people jockeying for position, causing them to bump up against one another for supremacy in the growing city.
After being thrown in jail at the end of last season, Ike Evans has a renewed sense of purpose on Magic City. He spent much of season one dealing with noted crime impresario Ben Diamond’s desire to take over the Miramar and become the leading figure in the Miami underworld. No longer content to let Diamond push him, his family, and his businesses around, Ike has now traveled to Cuba to set up a base. He’ll be far enough away from Miami that he could ensure the safety of his family, as well as the possibility of more men and resources to aid his effort in taking down Ben, but will it be enough to regain his place on the throne?
New faces for this season of Magic City include James Caan, Esai Morales, Rick Ross, Sherilyn Fenn, and Jamie Harris. Aside from Morgan, the show also stars Olga Kurylenko, Steven Strait, Christian Cooke, and Golden Globe nominee Danny Huston.
Do you think that Ben will ultimately triumph over Ike, or can the hotel baron find a way to outsmart the mob boss? Is Ike setting up a base in Cuba going to be the decision that tilts the scales in his favor? How will Vera, Stevie, and Danny fit into Ike’s new plans?
