‘Men of a Certain Age’ Gets Second Season Pickup from TNT

One of my favorite new shows of the season, Men of a Certain Age, has been renewed for a second season by TNT. The new series is a sardonic drama that focuses on three long-time friends entering their mid-life. I’ve been extremely impressed not only by how well the episodes have been writen so far, but also by how superb the acting in the series has been. Romano’s neurotic party store owner, a role Romano fits into because, well, he’s kind of a neurotic kind of guy himself. And Braugher and Bakula are spot on in their roles. Though I’m not yet to that mid-life stage these three characters are in, I have still found great enjoyment from this series, and a second season is welcomed.

Men of a Certain Age has been embraced by viewers and critics alike, making our decision to renew an easy one,’said Michael Wright, executive vice president, head of programming for TNT, TBS and Turner Classic Movies (TCM). ‘Men of a Certain Age blends insightful storylines, highly relatable characters and top-notch performances from Ray Romano, Andre Braugher and Scott Bakula. We look forward to continuing our wonderful relationship with everyone involved.’

Men of a Certain Age has been performing well for TNT, averaging 4.4 million viewers through its first five episodes, with it’s premiere episode ranked as ad-supported cable’s top new series launch of 2009 among the 25-54 demographic.

TNT Orders Second Season of Critically Acclaimed Hit Series

MEN OF A CERTAIN AGE

TNT has renewed its critically acclaimed hit series MEN OF A CERTAIN AGE for a second season. The wry drama stars Emmy® winner Ray Romano (Everybody Loves Raymond), Emmy winner Andre Braugher (Homicide: Life on the Street, TNT’s Salem’s Lot) and Golden Globe® winner Scott Bakula (Quantum Leap, Star Trek: Enterprise). MEN OF A CERTAIN AGE currently airs Mondays at 10 p.m. (ET/PT). TNT has ordered 10 episodes for the second season.

‘MEN OF A CERTAIN AGE has been embraced by viewers and critics alike, making our decision to renew an easy one,’said Michael Wright, executive vice president, head of programming for TNT, TBS and Turner Classic Movies (TCM). ‘MEN OF A CERTAIN AGE blends insightful storylines, highly relatable characters and top-notch performances from Ray Romano, Andre Braugher and Scott Bakula. We look forward to continuing our wonderful relationship with everyone involved.’

MEN OF A CERTAIN AGE explores the unique bonds of male friendship among three men approaching mid-life. The show focuses on Joe (Romano), a friendly, 40-something, slightly neurotic, recently separated father of two who had dreams of being a professional golfer but instead owns and runs a party store. He has two best friends: Owen (Braugher), an overstressed husband and father who is a car salesman at his dad’s dealership; and Terry (Bakula), an offbeat, handsome, intelligent and still-struggling-to-make-it actor.

MEN OF A CERTAIN AGE, from TNT Original Productions, was created by Romano and fellow Everybody Loves Raymond Emmy winner Mike Royce. They serve as executive producers, along with Rory Rosegarten and Cary Hoffman. Through its first five episodes, MEN OF A CERTAIN AGE is averaging 4.4 million viewers. The show’s Dec. 7 premiere ranked as ad-supported cable’s top new series launch of 2009 among households and adults 25-54.

TNT, one of cable’s top-rated networks, is television’s destination for drama and home to such original series as the acclaimed and highly popular detective drama The Closer, starring Kyra Sedgwick; Men of a Certain Age, with Ray Romano; Saving Grace, starring Holly Hunter; HawthoRNe, with Jada Pinkett Smith; Leverage, starring Timothy Hutton; and Dark Blue, starring Dylan McDermott; as well as the newly acquired Southland, from ER creator John Wells. TNT also presents such powerful dramas as Bones, CSI: NY and Numb3rs; broadcast premiere movies; compelling primetime specials, such as the Screen Actors Guild Awards®; and championship sports coverage, including NASCAR and the NBA. TNT is available in high-definition.

I didn't see any news on Dark Blue. Is it returning? I hope so. It's a wonderful show and the actors make it all seem so real.
