No I’m not talking about the Jet Li movie Fearless. I’m talking about the 1993 film Fearless that stars Jeff Bridges as a man who is coping with his survival of a horrific plane crash. The film was directed by one of my favorites, Peter Weir and also stars Isabella Rossellini who plays Bridges’ wife. Rosie Perez is also in the film. The movie was a very gutsy look at a topic people don’t like to bring up not do they ever want to think about. If you haven’t seen the movie then I highly suggest it. I personally think it’s in Bridges top five.
When it comes to music, the score, and overall feel of the film nails it. But there was one scene, one moment in this movie where I feel there was a better use of song than in any other moment in the movie let alone any movie. In one moment in the film, Bridges is talking to Rosie Perez about the loss of her child in the plane crash and Bridges wants to demonstrate how there was nothing she could do about it (Perez blamed herself for not holding on tight enough).
In order to do so he buckles the two up in his car and steps on the gas heading straight for wall. At that moment the intro to “Where the Streets have no Name” comes on and it’s absolutely perfect. Check it out below:
