Jersey Shore Spin-off in the Works

It looks like there’s about to be a Jersey Shore spin-off and no, it doesn’t star pint-sized media sensation Snooki (sorry, fans who are dying for Snookin’for Love). Instead, it’s DJ Pauly D who gets a turn in the spotlight, according to Newsday. MTV has announced that it signed the reality star to a series option deal, meaning the channel simply has the option to air a series based around Delvecchio’s life and times as a DJ and playboy. It seems the deal is a mere formality to an eventual show, as there was a pilot shot in September that featured the mixmaster.

It’s been quite a year for the guidos and guidettes of Jersey Shore. After a first season where ratings grew leaps and bounds every week, constant tabloid covers, and even a guest spot on Dancing with the Stars for default frontman The Situation, the second season of the Shore did absolutely insane numbers and cemented its position in the pop culture zeitgeist. It was regularly beating its broadcast competition, despite the protests of, well, just about everybody. The third season of the show is set to premiere on January 6th, as the show returns to New Jersey after some time spent in Miami.

If anybody from Jersey Shore was going to have a spinoff, I’m glad it’s Pauly. Although every member of the cast has had their fair share of ugly moments, the DJ is probably the most genuine, unaffected of the bunch. With no pretenses about him and a youthful energy that is simply magnetic, Pauly just seems like a good guy who likes to go out, chase girls, and have fun. If you sit down and actually watch the show, you see past the tattoos, piercings, and blowout to a truly kind soul, a rarity in a genre that tends to celebrate the wretched and over-the-top.

Is Pauly the right choice for the first Jersey Shore spinoff? Are you excited for the third season to premiere next year? Who do I have to pay off to get JWoww a spin-off of her own?
