‘Tis the season to roll out the jingle bells and let them ring for as long as it lasts, right? Chances are if you’ve been watching the traditional TV shows and Christmas movies you’ve heard Jingle Bells more than once now and might even be getting to the point that you’d like them to stop if only for a few minutes. The good thing is that you can always turn the programs off for a little while. The only downside is that if you have kids you might be hearing the song for a lot of days to come, at least until the day comes and they decide to forego the tune in favor of tearing into those presents you so lovingly wrapped. After all, singing a very repetitive song often takes a backseat to something that’s just too much fun to pass up.
It’s a fun song, for the first ten times at least.
5. The Santa Clause
This movie kind of redefined Santa yet again since it took the role to a new level that people hadn’t really thought of yet. Imagine a guy that’s so ingrained with the idea of Christmas, even if he fights it for so long, that his heartbeat starts thudding to the tune of Jingle Bells. I think I’d have the same look on my face as the poor doctor in this clip, then I’d be calling Ripley’s.
4. A Christmas Story
Following a tumultuous lead-in to what was a great Christmas Ralphie’s family unfortunately had to deal with a pack of dogs utterly ruining what would have been what looked like an absolutely wonderful dinner. That’s okay though, there was another bird on deck at the local Chinese restaurant, and it was even happy to see them. Oh that was horrible, but funny.
3. Lethal Weapon
Jingle Bell Rock is at least an homage to Jingle Bells set to a different melody so I’m counting it. After all it’s kind of taken over in the past for Jingle Bells and offered a pleasant way to modernize the song and allow people to still enjoy the main theme of it. Plus it’s a little more pleasing to the ear in some regards as it flows in a manner that Jingle Bells doesn’t.
2. The Simpsons
I swear sometimes it’d be nice to reach into the TV and slap Homer’s hands away from something just because it’s painful to think that even a cartoon character could be so moronic and yet still have a job like he does. How Springfield hasn’t gone up in a cloud of greenish smoke yet after 29 seasons is a credit to the writers I guess. Yes I know it’s fiction but come on, some characters seem forever brain dead.
1. Charlie Brown Christmas
Do you get the feeling that Lucy is the least-liked among the group in Peanuts? There has to be a reason and I’m guessing it’s that she’s always been the entitled little girl that usually doesn’t take other people’s opinions into consideration. But I could be wrong.
