Mad Men

Betty smokes while the kids eat breakfast.  Now we see how she got her pre-baby body back!  Carla comes in with the paper, which has an article about Goldwater in '64, now that Rockefeller went and ruined his chances of election by marrying that heartless divorcee.  Betty says she got no sleep, and Carla tells her to go take a nap.

Instead, she decides to make a new pen friend and writes a letter to Henry.  BTW- Betty is a lefty and has beautiful penmanship.

Peggy, Smitty and Kurt pitch Hilton ads to Don.  He shoots everyone down while sprawling in his chair and being kind of a dick.  Whitman, I presume.

Sal's shooting a new Lucky Strikes ad.  Lee Garner Jr. tries to get Pete to smoke, with hilarious results.  I think Vincent Kartheiser hacked up a lung.  Lee has some ideas for Sal, and they shoot a version with the actor smoking while looking at the camera.  Sal tries to sell him on the fact that cigarette ads are always stop, inhale, 1,000 yard stare, but when Lee asks Harry, Harry says, "I think you're the client and we should do what you want."  Guess we know what Harry would do with Lee Garner Jr. in the editing room a little later.  Oops, spoiler!   "It can make people very uncomfortable," Sal says, to which Lee replies, "Let's take a risk together, shall we Sally?"  More foreshadowing!  You could whittle this episode down to 30 minutes if you just read correctly between the lines.

Don drives in early to work, looking for Miss Farrell jogging, but she's not there.

Betty arrives home with Sally and Bobby from their first day of school.  The kids are a bit deflated, but Betty perks right up when she finds a letter for her from Henry.  "Betty - You asked if anyone reads my mail.  Not anymore.  H" Betty puts the letter in her purse, and Sally petitions for a pencil case.
