Don's not sleeping, so he grabs the phone on the first ring. It's our friend Connie, of course. He's calling to invite Don for a drink at 11:30 at night. "Right now?" Don asks. "You can say no, I've heard it before," Connie replies. I find that somewhat doubtful.
Don and Connie are drinking liquor from the days of Prohibition, and it's putting hair on Don's chest. Connie rambles about bringing America to the world, and it's a great example of the popular thought of the day, especially when contrasted with our current more conflicted role in world politics. Anyway, Connie goes on to say that Don is like a son to him, which is what really gets daddy issues Don.
Betty heads down the stairs with a basket of laundry to answer the door, and lo, it's Henry. He debated coming, but he just had to do it. Betty says her "girl" is due back, and wonders how to cover his sudden appearance. He protests he just had to see her as Carla walks in. She introduces Carla to Henry, and Henry says that Betty's house is perfect for a fundraiser for Governor Rockefeller. Betty makes an excuse to run upstairs and has Carla see Henry out. Carla isn't buying any of it.
