Kanye Will Perform on NBC - But Only for Macy's, Not for Today

Have you heard My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy? If not, you should, regardless of how you feel about its maker, Kanye West. Kanye certainly has a legion of haters due to his often rash and obnoxious public displays, but the man is absolutely fantastic at music, and I daresay that his Fantasy is the most perfect album of the year. It hit stores on Monday, and on Thursday, Yeezy will hit the streets.

One of Kanye's more recent (perhaps justified) outbursts came during his appearance on the Today Show. West appeared on the show to speak to Matt Lauer about George Bush describing one of Kanye's outbursts (when he accused Bush of not caring about black people during a Hurricane Katrina telethon), but his pseudo-apology to the president wasn't what made news about that interview. Kanye, trying to concentrate on what would be a much-scrutinized answer, felt prompted by Lauer and NBC, who began playing clips of West's other infamous outburst, when he interrupted Taylor Swift's acceptance speech at the 2009 VMAs.

Kanye posted on his Twitter that he wouldn't be performing on the Today Show later that week due to the incident. However, he will be appearing on NBC's telecast of the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, hosted by Lauer, performing the penultimate song on his album, "Lost in the World." According to MTV News, Kanye will travel along the parade route, eventually performing the track in front of Macy's Herald Square.

"Lost in the World" is one of my favorite tracks from the new album, and while some view it as morose, it's actually quite upbeat and relatively optimistic (compared to most of the self-deprecating album). According to West: "It's also my favorite eight bars that I've ever written in my life. I think it's one of the greatest pieces of writing, that verse: 'You're my devil, you're my angel/ You're my heaven, you're my hell/ You're my now, you're my forever/ You're my freedom, you're my jail/ You're my lies, you're my proof/ You're my war, you're my truce,' and the last line is, 'You're my stress, you're my masseuse.' "
