Is Love Bites DOA?

Sometimes fate steps in and gives you a little nudge in the right direction, but sometimes it gives you a big ol' boot in the butt. That's just what is happening with Love Bites, as Entertainment Weekly is reporting that star Becki Newton has received at least one offer to star in a new comedy pilot. Coming on the heels of Greg Grunberg signing on to star in A&E's Big MikeLove Bites may already be dead before it got a chance to live.

It's been a long road for Love Bites. Once a buzzworthy fall show, it was delayed until midseason when Newton became pregnant with her first child. However, NBC left the comedy anthology off of its frenetic midseason schedule and reduced the order by 4 episodes, which cast some doubt as to the show's chances. It's still unclear what'll become of the other two shows that were left off the schedule (Friends with Benefits and The Paul Reiser Show), but we likely won't have to wait long to hear the fate of Bites.

Though I would like to see the completed episodes, as the trailers made the show seem worth checking out, I'm just ready to have more Becki Newton on my television and if that comes in the form of a new show, that's perfectly fine. After catching a few Ugly Betty reruns now and then, I've been missing Newton's energy and comedic bite, so hopefully she (and the rest of the Love Bites cast and crew) have better luck on their next shows. Maybe we'll even get to see those shows.

Were you looking forward to Love Bites? What pilot would you cast Newton in? (I think she would be a hoot in anything but Don't Trust the Bitch in APT 23 sounds like something she could flourish on.) Will we ever see the return of the anthology series?
