NBC Picks Up Awake, Playboy, Grimm; Also Renews Harry's Law

It's been a busy couple of days for the peacock network, as NBC has given renewals to three more new series after picking up another four shows only yesterday. Included in the renewals are Awake, The Playboy Club, and Grimm, which join Smash and Prime Suspect as new fall dramas on the network. NBC also picked up two comedies yesterday: Whitney and Up All Night. Finally, the network gave a second season renewal to David E. Kelly's Harry's Law, a midseason show that put up fairly decent numbers Mondays at 10:00.

Awake comes from Kyle Killen (Lone Star) and tells the story of a police detective living in two different realities following a car accident. It stars B.D. Wong, Cherry Jones, and Laura Allen, among others. The Playboy Club was one of several period dramas that the broadcast nets ordered, this one taking place at the infamous Playboy clubs in Chicago circa 1963. Among those included in the cast are David Krumholtz, Amber Heard, and Eddie Cibrian. Grimm is a police procedural with a twist, as it focuses on a detective that discovers fairy tale creatures are real, living among us, and dangerous. It features Reggie Lee, Kate Burton, and Bitsie Tulloch.

These aren't the final moves for NBC, as there have been rumblings that Chuck's fifth season pick-up could come tomorrow and there has been no confirmation that the other pilots they have are dead. We'll keep you updated on this very hectic week in the world of television.

Will you be watching any of these shows? How do you like NBC's development slate?

I like Harry's Law.  Grimm sounds interesing as well as REM.  Is Up All Night the new series with Anthony Stewart Head?  Maybe there even could be a new Buffy the Vampire Slayer movie on NBC with the orginal cast.

I am happy that they picked up Harry's Law, Awake, and Grimm.   Please hire Joss Whedon for Grimm.   Also, Sean Hayes should renite with Debra Messing on her new series.

There must be a way to get Sarah Michelle Geller, Eilza Dushku,  Nicholas Brendon and Anthony Stewart Head together again in a series.   If Ringer, Sports Night , and the other series do not get picked up then I have an idea. You could make season eight of the series Buffy the Vampire Slayer.  It could focus on new stroylines without relying on the comic books.  Also, I think that Grimm and Awake should be paired together on the same night.

I hope that Grimm and Awake are  going to be filmed at Universal Studios in California.  They both sound good to me.  Is Free Agent going to be picked up for fall?

If CBS passes on Ringer and Sports Night, then maybe there could be a possibility of a new Buffy the Vampire Slayer series eight.  It would be great.

AWAKE!   The story of a detective living in to different realities. (Aren't we all?) Tended to by two 'very different therapists' (Cherry Jones and BD Wong).  Hope they play against type and Cherry Jones gets to be the touchy-feely new age hippy therapist and BD Wong gets to be the uptight, serious one.

AWAKE (are they going to use hypnotherapy? Is that how they got to this title? )

I think that Jennifer Love Hewitt should be one of the stars of The Firm.   Instead of Law and Order.

I think that tthe sereis The Event should be a midseason replacement.  I think that it needed more time for viewers to figure out what was going on.
