New Girl Casts Smallville Actor Alan Ritchson for Guest Role

Premiere Of Lionsgate's "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" - Arrivals

A superhero is heading to New Girl to try to romance Jess. Let’s just hope she likes to swim.

Smallville‘s Aquaman, Alan Ritchson, is set to guest star on New Girl as “a good looking guy that Jess meets at the bar,” according to TVLine. There is a twist, however. When Jess and Ritchson’s character find themselves getting closer, let’s just say the he has some, um,  “issues” in the physical intimacy department. His episode will air sometime in October.

In addition to Smallville, Ritchson’s other major TV credits include a starring role in Spike’s Blue Mountain State as mega-jock Thad Castle and guest star appearances in Hawaii Five-0CSI: Miami, and The CW’s 90210. Most recently, the actor has been seen in two major feature films, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire and, just released this month, the Michael Bay-produced Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Ritchson is the newest member of the stellar guest star cast that is set to appear throughout season four of New Girl. His casting comes after both Jessica Beil and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia‘s Kaitlin Olson have signed on for roles as enemies of Jess. Beil’s “hottest scientist in the world” will compete with Jess for the affections of a guy at a wedding in the show’s season four premiere, while Olson will recur as Jess’s old high school nemesis who has now become engaged to Jess’s dad, Bob (played by Rob Reiner).

Season four of New Girl premieres on Tuesday, Sept. 16 at 9 p.m.
