Tonight on New Girl: Zombie Novels and Baby Woes (Sneak Peeks)
Most of Jess' (Zooey Deschanel) concerns this season on New Girl have been about her job situation, but there's something new to add to this list when her friend Sadie (June Diane Raphael) announces that she is going to have a baby. Schmidt (Max Greenfield) is under-performing with his boss during their out-of-hours activities and Nick (Jake Johnson) thinks it's time to focus on his zombie novel.
Jess is only 30 so there is still plenty of time for her to have a family, this doesn't mean that she won't freak out when Sadie (who is also a gynecologist) mentions that there is a test to see how many of your eggs are still viable. As you can see from the sneak peeks below, Jess then panics that the eggs that are left are the evil ones that have outlasted the others; an interesting theory. Cece (Hannah Simone) claims that she is still in the 'I hope I'm not pregnant' phase, which we saw in last season's episode "Kids" when Cece thought she might be pregnant. Two out of the three guys offer to be Jess' baby daddy and you see in the clips below who doesn't make that standard sitcom offer.
One of the things that New Girl is particularly good at is taking a normal sitcom story and taking it in an unexpected direction; this has included the recent PMS plot that was really about Jess' confidence issues and Winston's (Lamorne Morris) relationship ending. It seems likely that the writers will find a different spin on this biological clock ticking storyline and it will hopefully be more than just the dreaded 'can a woman have it all?' debate.
Guest star Carla Gugino is back tonight as Schmidt's boss Emma and things are not going as well as either of them hoped or expected it would. Well, Schmidt thinks it's all good until Emma let's him know that it is quite the opposite. The impact this has on Schmidt is huge as he prides himself on his performance in the bedroom and it seems likely that he will not be satisfied until he has satisfied Emma. Schmidt will be looking to Jess' friend Sadie for her professional opinion. The jar is going to be brimming with money by the end of the episode.
Meanwhile, Nick and Winston head to the zoo with Jess and Cece to get inspiration for Nick's zombie novel. Last week Nick discussed the plot of his book with Jess' dad Bob (Rob Reiner) and it turns out that Nick has accidentally incorporated several major points and locations from Twilight. The Nick we are seeing this season is more open to actually putting himself out there and his run into the ocean in last season's magnificent "Injured" seems like the catalyst for this. Will this trip to the zoo help give him the push he needs?
