New Girl Season 2 Casting News Update

new girlZooey Deschanel posted a photo from the set of New Girl as they return to shoot season 2 and there has been a casting change for the first episode back. We also have news of a fun Nick (Jake Johnson) story that involves time travel and possible visit from the future. Spoilers ahead.

The season 2 premiere “Re-Launch” will feature a party to celebrate Schmidt (Max Greenfield) having his penis cast off, yep this is definitely something that Schmidt would do. Originally Leslie Mann was scheduled to play a ‘shot girl’ at the party, but sadly Mann has backed out due to a scheduling conflict. Mann’s replacement is a doozy though and Parker Posey will be appearing in this role instead. Posey has recently appeared in Louie and The Good Wife and will be working alongside Jess (Zooey Deschanel) at the party, who sadly has to find a new job after being made redundant.

For Nick things look like they could take a turn for the bizarre as Justified’s Raymond Barry (and all round ‘hey it’s that guy!’) has been cast as an older Nick. This isn’t a flash-forward to the future, instead Barry is playing a guy who comes into Nick’s bar and says that he is Nick from the future! He claims to know what will happen to Nick’s and is a drunker version of Nick. This story sounds on the more bonkers side and is sure to send Nick into a panic, it also reminds me of the Buffy episode “Hell’s Bells” where Xander believes he has been visited by his future self (obviously there will be no demons in New Girl).

A couple of other characters are going to be introduced including Winston’s (Lamorne Morris) mother Charmaine who will be played by Anna Maria Horsford. TVLine reports that Mrs Bishop is not a fan of Schmidt and has tried to raise all of her children to be basketball players. The season premiere will feature new potential love interests for both Jess and Cece (Hannah Simone), news that will not be welcomed by fans of Nick/Jess and Schmidt/Cece. We have already mentioned Jess’ new bad boy David Walton and Cece’s potential new boyfriend is not who you might typically see her with. Nelson Franklin will be playing Robby and per TV Guide he is a nice guy who also happens to be a terrible dancer and deaf in one ear. Is Cece using Robby to make Schmidt jealous?

What do you think of this casting news? Let us know what you would like to see happen in season 2.

Watch a promo for the new season below (no new footage but it’s fun regardless).
