Tonight on Nurse Jackie: Kettle-Kettle-Black-Black

nurse jackieYou've got to hand it to Nurse Jackie Peyton. For a woman that's avoided taking responsibility for her actions and addiction, she sure picked a fine time to do something about it.

Yes, Jackie is going to a rehabilitation center to finally take care of her prescription drug dependency. But if you think the hospital will putter to a halt in her absence, you're mistaken, as All Saints' has entered a new era. Having been purchased by a corporation, there's a new boss in town (Bobby Cannavale) that's ready to change the way things are done. Jackie's 28 vacation day purge, much to the chagrin of Akalitus, comes at a weird time. Her professionalism could be an asset toward easing the staff into the new administration, but her slick mouth and chemical dependency are things better yet taken care of away from the trauma unit. Burning bridges at this stage could be damaging for her, both in terms of career and general mental state, and the last thing she needs while trying to recover is that type of instability and chaos.

Jackie does get to at least be around the new boss, but it's typical Jackie stuff, not listening to him while he tries to talk and rummaging around in the meds for something. Obviously she wouldn't try to "score", not after telling Akalitus about her plan and not in front of the entire unit, but that doesn't change the fact that it wasn't the best first impression to give a powerful new person in her life. Jackie's entering a new phase in her life and while she'll never be your typical nurse, maybe it's time to work within the system a little more and not against it.

Nurse Jackie airs tonight at 9:00 on Showtime, along with the season premieres of The Big C and The Borgias. If you want to check out the free (slightly edited) premiere, you can view it here.
