Looks like a Monk is joining Showtime’s Nurse Jackie.
Actor Tony Shalhoub , who won three Emmy Awards and was nominated for eight total Emmys for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for his starring role in the USA Network’s Monk, is set to recur during Season 7 of the Edie Falco-led series. According to TVLine, he will be playing Dr. Bernard Prince, “a new ER doctor who in addition to having ‘a great bedside manner and a special touch with his boss, Gloria Akalitus (Anna Deavere Smith),’ will offer Jackie some desperately needed friendship.”
In addition to Monk, Shalhoub’s other TV credits include Wings, Ally McBeal, and Stark Raving Mad. He last appeared on television during the fall of 2013 in the role of Frank on the quickly cancelled CBS comedy series We Are Men, which also starred Kal Penn, Chris Smith, Jerry O’Connell, and Rebecca Breeds. The series only aired two episodes before its cancellation.
Showtime renewed Nurse Jackie for a seventh season back in April, while also announcing that series regular Peter Facinelli would exit the series before production began on the new season. Nurse Jackie concluded its sixth season at the end of June and will likely return for season seven sometime during the spring of 2015.
Fun fact: with series star Falco, supporting actress Merrit Wever, and now Shalhoub, the cast of Nurse Jackie now boasts eight total Emmy wins from its actors. Falco has won four Emmys (three for The Sopranos and one for Nurse Jackie), while Wever won her first ever Emmy last year for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series.
