New Once Upon a Time Promo Shows Off Frozen Characters

We’ve gotten pictures of them and even a first look of Elsa walking into town, but all the characters of Frozen actually come to life in the newest promo for season four of Once Upon a Time, even Sven the reindeer. While neither of them says anything (Elsa speaks one word, as she walks past the entrance of the town and curiously asks, “Storybrooke?”), this is the first new footage we’ve had of Anna and Kristoff. A special preview at Comic-Con showed Once Upon a Time fans a flashback scene between Anna and Elsa, but there had been no other videos since until now.

Elsewhere in the new trailer, we get a couple of scenes from what look like previous seasons of Once (Snow and Charming kissing at their wedding, Regina shooting fireballs, and Rumpelstiltskin being, well, Rumpelstiltskin) and one new exchange between Emma and Hook. “It’s not over, is it?” Emma asks the pirate captain. “It never is,” he responds with a slight grin on his face.

I’m still really interested to see how Once Upon a Time will interpret the new Frozen characters that it’s introducing, especially because the show has never seemed to be satisfied with just keeping these fairy tale individuals exactly the way they were from their books and movies. Specifically, I want to see if the Once showrunners decide to go even darker with Elsa’s character than the film version of Frozen did. Could she potentially be a villain at first instead of an ally?

Also, in non-Frozen-related Once Upon a Time news, Entertainment Weekly was the first to reveal last night that actress Frances O’Connor will be playing Belle’s mother in flashbacks, as we will get to see what Belle’s life was like before meeting Rumpelstiltskin in the sixth episode of season four. O’Connor’s credits include Cashmere MafiaMansfield Park, Bedazzled and Mr. Selfridge.

Once Upon a Time returns on Sunday, Sept. 28 at 8 p.m. on ABC. Check out the latest promo below.
