Once Upon a Time Preview: Will Mr. Gold Leave Storybrooke to Find His Son?
Cora wreaked some havoc in Storybrooke in the January return of Once Upon a Time. Disguised as Regina, she "killed" Archie, trying to turn Emma and the other Storybrooke residents against the former Queen. But Emma didn't believe that Regina was guilty and was convinced she wanted to change. Instead, she suspected Mr. Gold of the murder. But Cora's disguise was foolproof and, with the help of Mr. Gold's magic, Emma came to believe that Regina was the killer. She wanted to go after Regina, but her parents cautioned her against going up against her powers. They attempted to trap her with fairy dust but the plan backfired. Still, when confronted with the possibility of losing Henry, Regina disappeared.
But it turns out that Archie wasn't actually dead and was, instead, kidnapped by Cora in order to gather information about the Storybrooke residents.
In the fairytale land that was, Charming and Snow managed to capture Regina after retaking the kingdom. Snow stopped her execution in its final moments, convinced that there was still some good in Regina. But Regina failed the test and tried to kill Snow again. Fortunately, Snow had an ace up her sleeve. Rumpelstiltskin fashioned a protection spell preventing Regina from directly harming Snow or Charming in the fairytale world. In fact, this is why the Storybrooke curse came about. Unable to harm the couple in this land, Rumple and Regina created the spell to move everyone to another land.
In next week's episode, Mr. Gold creates a spell that will allow him to leave Storybrooke (without losing his memory) in order to go search for Bae. Belle meets Hook in Storybrooke and watches the pirate and Mr. Gold reunite with a fight. In a happier storyline, Mary Margaret and David go house hunting. In the fairytale land that was, Belle meets Mulan and the two head out on a quest to slay a beast who is terrorizing the land.
