Vanity Fair recently sat down with Catherine Cleary Walters, and though the name may not sound familiar, fans of a certain Netflix original will know who she is. She’s the person who was the basis for the character Alex Vause on Orange is the New Black. In case you are still confused, Alex is the one played by the actress from That 70’s Show. As much as we have all been loving the dramatic love triangle story and drug smuggling angles that have been thrown at us on this awesome show, how accurate is it to what really happened (as you all know, it is based on a nonfiction book of the same name). Seems not that accurate, actually.
A couple things we learn right off the jump is that the relationships portrayed on the show are played up (romance wise) for the show. She insists there was not a lot of that going on in there. Specifically, she is quick to point out, nothing between her and Piper. From what she says, the second season interactions they have are more accurate, as they were only in the same place for five weeks, and did not even talk to each other in that time. She is also quick to point out that if Piper told the real story that it is “so wretched and stinky, it would quite possibly result in a collapsed universe. So I guess it’s a good thing Piper and Jenji stick with the fun little tidbits.”
OH MY GOD, what does that mean? Now I am even more intrigued.
