Pink is Performing at The Oscars, But Why?

Pink has rocked quite a few awards shows recently with her high flying acrobatics, but it’s a bit strange to hear that she’s actually heading to the Oscars for a performance, which the singer announced this week.

“Big news!!! I’d like to thank @TheAcademy for inviting me to perform on the #Oscars on March 2nd!! #holycow”

Oscar show producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron are rather cryptic about why exactly she’ll be there. Pop stars aren’t usually invited to perform at the Oscars unless they’ve performed one of the nominated songs. Pink does not. But they want here there anyway as they say “She is regarded as one of the greatest voices in pop music and one of the best performers of her generation, and we are thrilled to have her join us for a highly anticipated moment on the broadcast.”

I have to assume that this means she’ll do one of her sky-high curtain-grabbing performances, as I can’t imagine they’re bringing her just to sing while standing on two feet. Perhaps she’s there to perform a cover of one of the nominated songs, though that would be mildly offensive to whoever is actually nominated.

Anyway, it’s a tad confusing and while I love both Pink and her circus act performances, are the Oscars really the place for yet another one?
