Pretty Little Liars: Secrets Come Out; Were Any Couples Affected?
The fallout from Spencer learning about Toby's secret was obvious in this week's Pretty Little Liars and her reaction to the news led to a secret being exposed.
The Plan to Destroy Mona. Remember in last week’s Pretty Little Liars when we saw Caleb and Paige meeting to discuss the “A” situation? This week Hanna overheard Paige telling Caleb that their plans to drive Mona away (including the cow brain in her locker) weren’t working. In other words, the two have been plotting behind the Liars’ back to take care of the Mona situation, but she’s proven herself resilient. Later that night, Hanna followed Paige and Caleb to their meeting. She ended up getting arrested for underage drinking and didn't catch the two in action, but it's clear that this new connection will be revisited soon.
Another Piece of the Toby and Alison Puzzles. Emily received a package from Nate’s family in Chicago which contained old cards and notebooks that she had given to Ali. It looks like Maya had these documents and Nate took them from her. But it was a biology notebook that yielded some interesting information: a written conversation between Alison and a mystery person about a “beach hottie”. Emily also showed Spencer a detailed account of Alison visiting Toby in juvie (and we saw the flashback). She accused him of sending the “A” notes that she had received, but he denied it, shooting back “I wish I knew who write those notes. I’d offer my services. You and your posse deserve a lot worse”. This information prompted Spencer to tell Emily that she and Toby had broken up the night before, but she didn’t tell her the whole truth yet. Later, Emily found a photo of Alison and CeCe and went to speak to CeCe about that trip to Cape May and Beach Hottie. CeCe didn’t know who the mystery man was, but she revealed that Alison was worried she was pregnant during that trip. When CeCe asked if she had told the hottie, Alison ominously declared “If he finds out, he’s going to kill me.” After discussing this new development with Aria, Emily decided to turn the notebook over to the police. And it was at the police station that she discovered another important clue: Detective Wilden had also been at Cape May.
The Secret Son is Exposed. “A” was up to his/her old tricks this week when s/he sent a text to Spencer from Aria’s cell saying that Aria had told Ezra the truth about his son and he freaked out. Spencer immediately went to the park, hoping to find Aria, but she found Ezra instead and laid into him, telling him not to blame Aria for keeping the secret. But now the truth was in the open and Ezra confronted Aria, telling her that he couldn’t believe she had kept this secret from him. Aria wasn’t upset with Spencer, knowing that she was set up by “A”. But Spencer was still furious about Toby and told Aria to stop blaming “A”: “Maybe if we stopped telling lies, [then] “A” wouldn’t have a reason to keep exposing them.” In the end, Ezra says that he spoke to Maggie and she admitted that she told Aria to keep the news quiet. He claims that he’s alright with Aria now, but it's clear that he still has issues with her. And now he's off to visit his son, leaving Aria behind.
Spencer’s Next Step. After discovering the truth about Toby, Spencer spent most of the episode in a funk. But at the end she decided to hire a detective. Handing him the mystery key they found in last week’s episode and a photo of Toby, she suggested he find out where the key leads.
