There was no getting around ABC leaving New Year’s Eve as top rated network in both age categories. CBS came in second in total viewers and third in adults 18-49 while NBC got third place in total viewers and second place in the demo. FOX and The CW reached the lowest numbers on Friday.
ABC opened the evening with a repeat of theatrical motion picture Wild Hogs starring Tim Allen, John Travolta, Martin Lawrence and William H. Macy at a respectable 5.54 million viewers and a 1.4 rating/5 share among adults 18-49. Next was the annual special Dick Clark’s Primetime New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest 2011 (9.14 million viewers; A18-49: 2.7/11), which claimed leadership in total viewers and adults 18-49 on New Year’s Eve.
CBS pulled out of Friday business this week airing reruns of NCIS (6.59 million viewers; A18-49: 0.9/3), CSI: NY (6.13 million viewers; A18-49: 0.9/3) and Blue Bloods (6.07 million viewers; A18-49: 0.9/3).
NBC ran a repeat of Minute to Win It (3.75 million viewers; A18-49: 1.0/4), an original-installment of Dateline NBC (3.86 million viewers; A18-49: 0.9/4), which performed lower than usual, and the annual special New Year’s Eve with Carson Daly (3.87 million viewers; A18-49: 1.2/5).
FOX failed by airing a repeat of theatrical motion picture Rocky Balboa (2.03 million viewers; A18-49: 0.6/2) starring Sylvester Stalone while The CW capped off the evening with reruns of Smallville (1.19 million viewers; A18-49: 0.4/1) and Supernatural (1.06 million viewers; A18-49: 0.3/1).
