Revenge PaleyFest Spoilers: Flashbacks and More of What's Coming for the Rest of the Season
While Revenge won't be back with a new episode until April 11th, the cast and creators of the addictive primetime soap were on hand at the annual PaleyFest event this Sunday and were willing to give us a few juicy tidbits and opinions to tide us over during this unfortunately long hiatus. With the entire cast as well as executive producer/creator Mike Kelley and executive producer Marty Bowman on stage at the Saban theater, we learned what we should expect for the rest of the season and the casts opinions on the tangled webs they weave in the Hamptons.
Here's 9 things we found about what's to come and what the cast thinks of their relationships at Sunday's panel:
Time jumps: While episode 17 will pick up right where 'Scandal'left off, the episode thereafter will jump forward to mid December. We'll even get 'an episode of Revenge in 2002'in episode 20. Taking place completely at the New Year's Eve Party captured in Lydia's picture with Emily as a caterer, we'll see how Emily started believing her father's journals about these people. 'We get to bring back all the people she's taken down in the course of this first season in one place'and see how the origin of this Revenge tale began. Madeline Stowe remarked the episode will flashback to 1990 as well for some characters. We can also expect to see some Emily and Nolan back story.
The love triangle: We're not sure about you guys but if we here at TVOvermind had our way, Emily would miraculously be able to keep both of her boys. However, Emily VanCamp mentioned that the Jack-Emily-Daniel love triangle will steer one way very soon and we'll see 'how far she's willing to go for Daniel as well and for Jack.'Their story becomes more complicated when 'someone makes a decision that sort of betrays that relationship.'In the most recent episode of the Revenge, we saw her sensei and mentor of sorts, Takeda, encourage Emily to make a choice. Now does he have her best intentions at heart? We don't know and EP Mike Kelly isn't spilling. However, Van Camp agreed in a sense that 'the more involved she becomes with her heart, the more you see she kind of goes off the rails a bit.'
Now as for that other love triangle of Emily-Jack-Fauxmanda, Nick Weschler said 'I lean currently towards Amanda, whether or not that is wise.'At this point in the game, there is nothing he can do about his draw to Emily and while he's torn, he makes the point that this girl (Emily) has already rejected him.
What Now for Daniel? Prior to the livestream of Sunday's Revenge panel, attendees were shown a few clips from the next episode. While we didn't get to see these, apparently one of those clips showed Daniel getting beaten while in the slammer. So who's responsible for the hit? Victoria, of course. In an effort to protect him from the other horrors prison has to offer, Stowe said 'I would have the living daylights beaten out of him and I do.'
As we know Daniel will be facing trial for Tyler's murder. It seems it will be a relatively short trial as Kelley mentioned it will be over by or in episode 19 with the majority of screen time focusing on Daniel's defense. While no specific timeline was given as to when the young Grayson may be clued into the deception he's facing by both mother and fiancé, it was mentioned that at a certain point he will catch on. Bowman said 'He remembers quite a bit [about the night on the beach]. He's definitely catching on to something and he's got a scent of something till proven otherwise.'He's also looking forward to the darker turns his character is going to take. Kelley added that 'he's no angel.'After all he is a Grayson and he did shoot Tyler.
Could David Clarke be alive? What about Emily's mother? When asked if there was any possible way David Clarke may actually be alive, Kelley remarked 'if it's not impossible we'll probably do it'but obviously 'you will not find out this season.'He also teased that we will find out about what happened to Emily's mother which will lead us into a lot of story for season 2 as long as the show gets picked up.
Can't Victoria and Emily just get along? 'I will never like her. I will never trust her. I will kill her with my eyes.'Those were just some of the quotes Stowe stated regarding Emily and Victoria's tenuous relationship. The cast mentioned the two characters are similar kinds of animals able to recognize another one of their own easily which is why they'd never be able to get along. 'It takes one to know one'said VanCamp. Emily takes extra pleasure in making Victoria's life miserable and will antagonize Victoria with an extra kiss to Daniel or long hand holding that Stowe stated makes her character 'just want to kick her ass a bit.'
'There's a duality in'Ashley: 'No one is all good or all bad,'Ashley Madekwe stated of her character. When we last saw her in the most recent episode of Revenge, she was being confronted by Nolan for leaking a picture of Daniel to the press in an effort to increase her own visibility as Grayson spokeswoman. So how dangerous will Ashley be to Emily's plan? Ashley Madekwe joked if she had her way 'she'd be running around with an ax killing everybody.'While nothing has been shot yet going back to this confrontation, she remarked it has to be brought up again because Nolan can hold this against her. Expect a major shift in her loyalty coming up which Kelley teased has something to do with Emily.
Emily and Nolan are BFFS: 'The dynamic of whatever this is has been one of the great joys of working on this show'said Gabriel Mann regarding his relationship with his costar. He goes on to say that their off-screen friendship has definitely informed what you seen on TV and that it can be hard to do fighting scenes with her because they're so close. He'd like to believe that Emily can trust Nolan and while Van Camp and Kelley sees a sibling type relationship with the two, Mann hates that comparison shouting 'we're not related!'Nolan is a necessary ally to Emily in helping her feel like she has someone she can count on and is not alone.
What would the cast want to happen if there was only 5 episodes left? While we can't imagine ABC would be crazy enough to not pick up Revenge for a second season, an audience member asked the entire cast what they'd like to see happen with their characters if there was in fact only these next 5 episodes left. Some of their hilarious answers are listed below:
-"I hope that Conrad's character spins off to another series where he is a marriage counselor to the middle class.' Henry Czerny
-'I like the idea of Charlotte hitting rock bottom so that she has someone to pull her out.' Christa B. Allen
-'Take 'em all out, Dexter style. Get a kill room.'- Emily VanCamp
-"It would be good if he became a sheik.' Connor Paolo
-'Regain something from the past, have piece of mind and let her kids go [...] after killing Emily first. ' Madeline Stowe
-'Maybe I'd turn English.' Joshua Bowman
-'It'd have to be something with mummies and space and I want Steve Guttenberg to be in it.' Nick Weschler
Season 2? If the show does get picked up for a second season, expect a big cliffhanger come season finale time. The pattern of the show's second season will remain much the same as this first season; A big tease leading up to a huge event culminating mid-season and then the fall out of that event for the second half. We can't wait to see what it might be! After all, 'if it's not impossible, it's on Revenge.'
Revenge returns on Wednesday April 11h at 10 pm on ABC.
