Saturday Night Live has been an interesting creature this season. As I have written about, week after week, it is a show trying to find its footing again. A move that has not proven easy so far for the new cast. Good news for fans of SNL, though. Jimmy Fallon’s SNL with Justin Timberlake this weekend was the best the show has been all season. Heck, it is one of the best episodes in recent memory. Why? Because it finally felt like SNL again.
Ofcourse, bringing Jimmy Fallon on with Justin Timberlake had a lot to do with this. Thye both are huge staples on the show, and are also BFF’s, which tends to translate nicely to the show. From the opening sketch, which was a shout-out to Justin Timberlake’s “omeletteville” sketch from years back. From that moment, all of us fans knew, this would be a perfect episode. In many ways, that is just what it ended up being.
I will give an extra shout-out myself to the Barry Gibb Talk Show. What is easily my favorite SNL sketch of the last decade. I will admit, Madonna kind of ruined it, but still. Yes, Madonna was on. Paul McCartney was on. Barry Gibb was even on it. It was an episode filled with guest stars, and it was clear everyone was having fun.
Well, there was that weird music performance when it seemed like Justin Timberlake was trying to do his best impression of Kanye West. Outside of that, though, Jimmy Fallon’s SNL this weekend was a glaring reminder of why we like this show.
Because when it is funny, it is hilarious.
