NBC Cancels Sean Saves the World

It’s not a terribly big surprise, but after weeks of weak ratings, NBC has canceled Sean Saves the World, the Sean Hayes comedy vehicle that was meant to round out their flagging Thursday night comedy line-up. Sean Saves the World and the Michael J. Fox Show have suffered poor ratings as The Office and 30 Rock replacements, but Fox is sticking around for now, while Sean is not.

A total of 18 episodes of Sean Saves the World will air, just under a full season, and twelve have run already. Production on the show is being shut down after this announcement. But with an 0.7 rating in the coveted 18-49 demo, you can hardly blame NBC for the move.

Welcome to the Family is the only other NBC comedy canceled this season. The Michael J. Fox show was picked up for a 22 episode order before it even aired, so it technically can’t be “canceled.” But NBC may choose to not pick it up for season two. Though if I had to wager a guess, I think they will, perhaps to see if it catches on once finding its footing.

Will you mourn the passing of Sean Saves the World, or are we better off?
