It's an exciting time to be a Sex and the City fan. Reruns of the influential HBO comedy are airing seemingly non-stop on E!, there has been talk of bringing the show back for a seventh season, and a small screen adaptation of The Carrie Diaries may end up on The CW. We may have had to say goodbye to our girls at the end of season six in 2004, but the characters have maintained a pop culture presence well into their third decade.
One thing that I personally didn't expect to hear about was the possibility of a third film. Earlier this summer, rumors circulated that the third film in the franchise would be a prequel, following Carrie and the girls through their roaring 20s and starring the likes of Emma Roberts, Blake Lively, and Selena Gomez. Eventually, talk died down and considering the critical drubbing Sex and the City 2 took, I just assumed that was the end of the fab foursome.
Not so, at least according to the New York Post. Sarah Jessica Parker has confirmed the existence of a story for the third Sex and the City movie, describing it as "small" and necessary to be told. There's been no word on whether the presence of a third film would have an impact on a possible seventh season of the show. It may not seem like much progress, but it took the first film more than four years to go from early development to big screen success, so this is a solid first step to bring the story of our favorite New York single ladies to a rightful close.
What would you want to see Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte, and Miranda up to in a third film? If you had to choose between a third film or a seventh season, which would you pick and why? Do you think the awful reaction to the second film was justified?
The sixth season had one of the most satisfying, lovable series finales ever. You Got The Love continues to be my favorite song of all time from that point forward. There was never a need for a movie, or a sequel, or a prequel or a seventh season. It should've ended right there and then.
