Following a time jump and a whole lot of off-camera shenanigans, the Gallagher family of Shameless is back and still attempting to scrounge up enough money to survive. Of course, they're going about it in pretty different ways and the blistering Chicago sunshine has only exacerbated that gap.
Kev may have overdone it this year on the pot plants, which have previously served as a source of ancillary income for him and V. Having previously dealt with only a small amount of product, the basement full of plants has to be overwhelming, hence Kev bringing Lip in for help. The two have to find a way to either sell everything they have or dispose of the bulk of the plants in order to evade potential arrest.
Frank, on the other hand, is seeing his meal ticket potentially (literally) walking away, with Sheila's newfound ability to leave the house. Though she's only around 100 steps from her door, that's leaps and bounds from where she was for most of last season. It's only a matter of time before she works her way into town and gets an accurate picture of the man that Frank Gallagher is, as opposed to the man he's presented himself as. Knowing Frank, though, he'll find some way to try and curtail Sheila's progress or bribe his bar buddies into vouching for his "character".
Plus, he has to face the repercussions of his id-centric actions when Karen gets involved in sex addicts anonymous and meets a guy at a meeting that she takes a liking to. Frank Gallagher may be a drunk, a liar, and a neglectful parent, but sooner rather than later, everything will start crashing in around him.
Shameless airs tonight at 9:00 on Showtime, leading into new episodes of House of Lies and Californication. If you've yet to check out the season trailer, you can view it here and get a taste of what the Gallaghers will be up to in 2012.
