The Big C's Cathy Jamison will be adding one more member to her medical team, as Alan Alda has signed on for a guest appearance in Showtime's dark comedy, according to Deadline. Alda will play an oncologist that Cathy sees after receiving a failed treatment for her melanoma. Joining Alda in the cast will be Hugh Dancy, though Dancy's role has yet to be specified. Alda is best known for playing Hawkeye Pierce on M*A*S*H and is currently a journalism professor at Stony Brook University, while Dancy has been featured in the likes of Black Hawk Down, King Arthur, and Ella Enchanted. Last season The Big C featured guest appearances from the likes of Cynthia Nixon and Idris Elba.
The Big C debuted late last summer with strong ratings and enormous buzz, particularly for Laura Linney's performance. The show has already been nominated for multiple Golden Globes, winning one for Linney, and was picked up for a second season last September. The show stars Linney as a suburban woman is diagnosed with melanoma and is forced to reevaluate her unsatisfactory life. Additional members of the cast include fellow Oscar nominee Gabourey Sidibe, Oliver Platt, and John Benjamin Hickey. Season two of The Big C will debut June 27th at 10:30, again following Weeds.
