Showtime Sets September Return Dates for Homeland and Dexter
Showtime has decided to announce its fall return dates for two of its shows: the long-running Dexter and new hit, Homeland.
Dexter's seventh season is scheduled to premiere on Sunday, September 30 at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT. The second season of Homeland is set to premiere on the same night at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT.
Homeland recently won the Golden Globe for best television drama in its freshman year. The show is Showtime's highest-rated freshman drama series ever. The series averaged 4.4 million weekly viewers across platforms in its first season, and its season one finale was the highest-rated finale for a freshman series in Showtime history, with five million viewers across platforms. It was no surprise, then, when Showtime renewed the drama starring Claire Danes and Damian Lewis. Morena Baccarin, David Harewood, Diego Klattenhoff, David Marciano, Navid Negahban, Jamey Sheridan, Morgan Saylor, Jackson Pace and Mandy Patinkin also star. The show films on location in Israel and North Caroline and filming will resume in the spring.
Dexter, meanwhile, is still a strong performer for Showtime. Its sixth season saw an average of 5.5 million weekly viewers across the various platforms, which was its highest rated season. Dexter stars Michael C. Hall, Jennifer Carpenter, Desmond Harrington, C.S. Lee, Lauren Vélez, David Zayas and James Remar. Dexter films in Los Angeles and production on the seventh season will also begin this spring.
