Other actors cast in the piot include Mathew Goode as Papal Secretary Bernd Koch, the current Pope’s closest confidante and Sebastian Koch as Cardinal Marco Malerba, the Vatican’s Secretary of State.
“Kyle Chandler is one of the most talented and sought-after actors working today, and was a fantastic creative partner through five seasons of Friday Night Lights,” said David Nevins, President of Entertainment, Showtime Networks Inc. “With Kyle, Matthew Goode and Sebastian Koch, Ridley and Paul have put together a powerhouse cast to anchor this incredibly timely show.”
Chandler has recently appeared in several films since the end of Friday Night Lights, including two Oscar nominated movies this past year: Zero Dark Thirty and Argo.
Vatican is set to begin shooting in 2013 and will be considered for pick-up by Showtime.
