Smash returns to its normal time slot next Tuesday at 10pm in the midst of some real life ratings drama.  The two part premiere opened with extremely poor ratings, and in the time since then another ailing freshman “Do No Harm” was cancelled with prejudice after posting similarly anemic numbers. Should Smash be considered on cancellation watch at this point?  Maybe stars Katherine McPhee and Megan Hilty can convince you otherwise.

Partnerships are tested as Eileen (Anjelica Huston) asks Tom (Christian Borle) and Julia (Debra Messing) to contend with an unwelcome new collaborator, while Jimmy (Jeremy Jordan) and Kyle (Andy Mientus) prepare to present their work for the first time. Derek (Jack Davenport) attempts to get Ronnie (guest star Jennifer Hudson) back on his side. Ivy (Megan Hilty) finds it hard to move on, but help from an old friend might take her one step closer to her dream. Katharine McPhee also stars. Jennifer Hudson and Daniel Sunjata guest star.
