True Blood -- Alfre Woodard Cast

lafayetteIn what is destined to be one of the more interesting roles of next season, it appears that actress Alfre Woodard has been tapped to appear in season three of True Blood. The fifty-seven-year-old Oklahoma native will be playing quite the juicy role: that of Lafayette's mother.

Woodard, who most recently appeared in all ten episodes of the short-lived drama Three Rivers, has also been cast in the TNT pilot Delta Blues along with Jason Lee, but that shouldn't cut short her role as Mama Reynolds; her role on True Blood is a guest starring one, and not a major role, giving her plenty of time to star in Blues.

It'll be interesting to see how exactly Lafayette's mother feels about him; he is, after all, an internet porn star and a peddler of the druglike 'V.' Lafayette's mother may also have some interaction with Sookie's best friend Tara, since Tara and Lafayette are cousins (making Lafayette's mother Tara's aunt). Perhaps Mama Reynolds will console Tara after the loss of her boyfriend Eggs, which happened at the very end of season two.

Season three of True Blood has already started production, and is expected to premiere in summer 2010.
