It’s a new era for Star Wars, now that Disney has freed it from the clutches of George Lucas for the low, low price of billions of dollars. Obviously all eyes are turned toward JJ Abrams and the pending Episode VII, but what about the many other Disney Star Wars projects coming? There are video games in the works, but also TV shows. Namely, Star Wars Rebels, a new animated series following in the footsteps of The Clone Wars, but focused on this new Disney-era of canon.
The show will be hitting the air well ahead of Episode VII, and has just been given an October 3rd premiere date. The show will debut with a one-hour event on Disney XD, and star airing at 9PM on the channel after that. I’m not sure kids who watch Disney XD are allowed to stay up to 9PM, but that’s what DVRs are for, I suppose.
But it’s very likely that Star Wars Rebels will be no kids show. Despite being a cartoon, like The Clone Wars before it, it’s probably going to be able to be enjoyed by all ages, and those who have seen footage of it at Comic Con have only good things to say. It has a killer voice cast in the form of Freddie Prinze Jr. as Kanan, Vanessa Marshall as Hera, Steve Blum as Zeb, Tiya Sircar as Sabine, Taylor Gray as Ezra, David Oyelowo as Agent Kallus and Jason Isaacs as the Inquisitor, and I can’t wait to see it for myself.
What do you think? Will Star Wars Rebels be a good first step for the new era?
