Stargate Universe Series Finale - The Irony of It All...

The ending for Stargate Universe was just that... an ending. However, "Gauntlet" doesn't necessarily have to be seen as just a 'ending,' just an ending 'right now' for the Stargate franchise in general.

Earlier, I wrote my thoughts on how I felt that with a bit of tweaking and editing in the story, "Epilogue" would have served as a better conclusion to the series than what was proposed to have been a cliffhanger ending with tonight's "Gauntlet." Let me shamelessly take those words back, eat them, and ask for seconds, because "Gauntlet" served as a perfect series finale for a show that was cut right when it started to find its walking legs.

From the title of the episode down to the interactions between the characters tonight, Stargate Universe "Gauntlet" gave the sense that Joseph Mallozzi, Brad Wright, and crew knew that the end was coming and if they didn't then they surely fooled the hell out of me. As stated before, reports of tonight's episode gave fans the inclination of being a season ending cliffhanger with everyone's lives in the balance. I came into the episode expecting another space battle with the Drones with maybe a couple of people's lives being in danger to wrap up the series, leaving several plots dangling with nothing being solved, which in turn would frustrate viewers for years to come. Instead, I witnessed proper farewells, few loose ends, and most importantly, some sense of closure.

On top of all that, I seriously couldn't ignore the irony within the episode given the circumstances of the overall picture of the Stargate franchise in general. Let me explain. The crew was met with opposition from the Drones, which had pretty much planted themselves at every viable gate on the path ready to attack when the chance came. In our world, Stargate Universe was met with tons of opposition from fans and critics alike and was attacked from all cylinders when the opportunity raised itself. The crew of the Destiny came up with a solution to bypass the attacks, they should go into stasis for about three years. The Stargate franchise has been put on hold indefinitely until someone finds the right time to return it to our television and movie screens. Do you see a pattern here? Plus, you can't help but notice how the series regulars were the last to go into the stasis chamber, so they could have their final moments together. The scene fit perfectly with the finality of it all and Col. Everett Young's speech to his crew/family sealed the deal that this was a final goodbye.

The final hour didn't disappoint in terms of closure and wrapping up things in a loose, but nicely dressed bow. The Lucian Alliance thing never got a feasible conclusion, but I seriously never understood how the crew of the Destiny could have helped in that fiasco after dumping most of the Alliance members on a planet and not being on Earth to help in the invasion itself. Sure, communication stones could have been a conduit to assist in stopping the invasion, but I digress. We had closure for lot of characters, for instance Camile having time to tell Sharon to move on, Matt being able to see his son one last time, and Dr. Lisa Park being able to see one last time before going into a deep sleep. All of those moments, and more, served as a satisfying conclusion to characters we've come to know in the last two years and Stargate Universe in general.

But the most satisfying character conclusion for me had to have been that of Eli Wallace, because it made sense for us to end with him since he was basically the audience's 'avatar' into this adventure. He was the heart of the show and it was a nice touch to end with him gazing at the stars of what could possibly be ahead of him. Plus, a little voice inside my head is still telling me that Eli found a way (or will find a way) to fix the his stasis pod and is sleeping right along with his newfound family, because as he stated in the episode, he is smarter than Dr. Rush and more reliable when the going gets tough. At least he won't try to jettison who he thinks is the least valuable to the overall mission.

There is so much to go on with this finale, but I will save some of it for the upcoming Two Guys Discuss Stargate Universe with our editor Jon Lachonis so I will wrap this piece up with a last few thoughts. First, the shutting down of the Destiny was like the closing of the Stargate franchise in general. Very nicely done. Secondly, if SGU was renewed for a third season and this was the season finale, I don't think it would've held such an emotional punch, unless we knew some characters wouldn't wake from that slumber. This is why I feel as if the writers went back to the drawing board once the cancellation was announced and wrote a proper ending. Albeit, I could be wrong, but at least, again, we got closure. Finally, the "Gauntlet" might have come down on the Stargate franchise, but after watching this episode, I don't think of it as being 'completely' dead right now.

It's just in stasis at the moment.

See you on the other side, folks! Hopefully...

Stargate Universe: A Goodbye With Thoughts on the Last Few Episodes

Stargate Universe airs its final episode tonight on SyFy and I felt that it was a good time to stop and sum up the last few episodes before giving the show the goodbye that it deserves.

If you've been living under a rock since December, SyFy canceled the latest Stargate spinoff due to low ratings after it was moved from its Friday time slot to Tuesdays where ratings were not favorable. When the show returned this spring, the cable network then moved it to Monday nights where ratings fluctuated, but it was too late since the show had already been given its walking papers. In the aftermath, the entire Stargate franchise was put on an indefinite hold, snuffing out fans' hope of ever seeing their favorite characters from the Stargate franchise ever again. So tonight marks the end of not just one series, but the future of the franchise as a whole.

The last few episodes of SGU exemplified some pretty good storytelling, namely with the two-parter featuring the descendants of the alternate Destiny crew and how they settled on the planet of Novus and started a whole new civilization. Everyone knows that since the show came on, I've been wanting for Icarus Survivors to find their way back home whether it was in the middle of the series or in the last frame of the series finale. However, after viewing both "Common Descent" and "Epilogue," I would have been content on the crew settling down and forming a new civilization amongst themselves. If you take away the time travel and duplicate crew members, "Epilogue" could have served as a fitting series finale and ending for the journey of the Destiny crew. I say this because by watching the episode, I felt that the crew truly achieved the one thing they couldn't do while they were on the Destiny. They successfully coexisted and managed to find "home." I know that's sappy and all, but wouldn't you agree that "Epilogue" would have served as a better conclusion than what could possibly be a cliffhanger with tonight's episode? Anyone?

To me, "Epilogue" was the best episode of the series, but that might change in a viewing of the entire series as a whole. The final image of Camile Wray as the sole survivor of the Destiny crew was very ironic and yet it fitted for me. Watching Camile speak to the descendants of her friends and colleagues in the final moments of "Epilogue" clinched the series for me to the point that I'm scared to see how the show will actually end tonight. Again, it would have been an apposite way to close the series and, in some respects, the entire franchise with some tweaking in terms of the plot and storyline, because the crew of the Destiny had a decent ending and maybe a scene or two could have showed what happened to the Lucian Alliance attack back home. Who knows? All I do know is that I have a serious aversion to abrupt endings to certain TV shows and, again, I feel that we will be left dangling on the edge of space when the final frame of SGU airs later tonight with no one to help us up in the fall. It's a shame, but even space can't survive the harsh realities of show business.

Which brings me to the goodbye portion of this post. I remember being young when Stargate SG-1 premiered on Showtime and watching the first few episodes on TV. I wasn't an avid Stargate fan at the time and am not claiming to be one now, but that doesn't mean that I didn't enjoy the franchise and everything it offered while it lasted. I really dug the concept of all three shows, but I enjoyed Atlantis and SGU more, with early SG-1 thrown in for good measure. In short, it's sad to see a franchise die out so young and hope that whoever takes the reigns of Stargate in the future connect the dots back to the original three series as they take the franchise in a new direction. It will be tough not knowing what happened to General Jack O'Neill, Samantha Carter, Dr. Rodney McKay, Daniel Jackson, Eli Wallace, and Dr. Nicholas Rush to name a few, but at least we got to know them, right?

The journey through space has reached its course for now, but will you be willing to jump back on board if and when the gate reopens?

It's been real, folks. Until next time!

According to GateWorld.net and Airlock Alpha, fans of Stargate Universe and Stargate in general were delivered a double whammy of blows this weekend at the Official Stargate Convention when Stargate producer and franchise overseer Brad Wright announced that the franchise as we know it is officially dead... at the moment.

“It was a great ride and I felt really good about [SGU] and about Stargate in general,” Wright told the stunned crowd in Vancouver. “When something’s been a part of your life for 15 years, it kind of takes you over.”

What does this announcement exactly entails? Well, the proposed SG-1 movies and Atlantis movies are now canceled as well as a the possibilities of a potential wrap up movie for the recently canceled SGU, which will end its run on SyFy next month.

The cast members of SGU went on Twitter to speak their minds to the fans of the show. David Blue, who portrays whiz kid Eli Wallace on SGU, tweeted to fans "I am incredibly proud of SGU and I'll calmly discuss why with anyone who wants to challenge that in person."

As for the role of Eli and the cancellation of SGU, Blue stated that wished the cast and crew of SGU had a chance to have one last moment with each other on set, and that he "can't imagine" not donning Eli's trademark graphic tees and snark demeanor.

Brian J. Smith, aka Lt. Matthew Scott, shared his co-star's sentiment and thanked the fans through his Twitter account before offering a glimmer of hope for the future of the franchise.

"That's not to say that Stargate could [not] re-emerge later on down the road in some form, but for the foreseeable future, this is it."

Brad Wright also feels that the Stargate brand is far from dead, because "it's a franchise."

"Stargate is not over. Somebody smart from MGM is going to figure it out, and something will happen."

Let's hope so...

Are you guys sad to see this franchise leave so soon? What would you like to see in the future? A reboot ala J.J. Abrams' "Star Trek" or a continuation of the established history/canoncity laid out by SG-1, SGA, and SGU?

For Love?

Last night's Stargate Universe told the sci-fi element to take a back seat in favor of some character development with love and fear being the driving force behind the episode, which might be polarizing among the show's fans.

Two love triangles dominated the hour, one more prominent than the other. When TJ (and another crewman) were kidnapped by some super fast beasts, I knew that Col. Young would be to hunt high and low for his former paramour. Then Varro threw his hat into the search for the same reasons and I was sure the two would finally lock horns physically over the love for TJ. Unfortunately, that didn't happen, but we know that it could very well happen sometime soon, especially after TJ and Varro finally shared a kiss. The build up with this particular storyline paid off and has entered the next stage of development. It can only get even murkier than it is now that Young has freed Varro (courtesy of a suggestion from Greer) for a job well done on rescuing TJ and the potential red shirt. Although, another reason for Varro's freedom could be that the Lucian Alliance faction on the ship is small to null at this point, which means Varro is not considered a threat, despite the fact that he hasn't been since the incursion. I'm betting that Young will not let any of this calculate in his brain once he finds out about his opposition in loving TJ. The other brain will take over then...

The Young/TJ/Varro triangle makes more sense than the Volker/Park/Greer quagmire, because I simply don't buy it. I would have most definitely bought Volker gaining the courage to approach Park after almost dying from his condition. That makes a helluva lot of sense. It's the factoring in of Greer that throws me off, because I never made the correlation of there being something deeper than sex between Park and Greer. Sex that was only hinted at during an episode from last season, which also told us that Park was a sexaholic who didn't do the committment thing too well. Sure we got the occasional protection look between the two, but I always thought it was more of a friends with benefits thing rather than an actual relationship. Plus, for the relationship to become deep, Greer would have to share his feelings from time to time and I highly doubt Park has been working wonders in that department.

Volker, on the other hand, has shown affection towards Park for some time now and this would've been the most ample time for him to act on his crush. But not only does he have Greer as a competitor, but he's carrying the guy's kidney, as well.... Super awkward situation is an understatement when describing this scenario.

Speaking of Greer, the man kicked ass last night. I'm sorry (actually I'm not), but Greer has come a long way since his days as a stereotypical angry grunt with a chip on his shoulder the size of the Pegasus and Milky Way Galaxies put together. In these last batch of episodes, he's steadily shown a more humane side of himself, mostly the one emotion he's rarely shown since landing on the Destiny:

Fear.

Greer's admittance to his mental state and fear of death after a small moment of disorientation to Vanessa James was pretty surprising. Not really the revelation, but Greer's ease of actually revealing something he wouldn't so readily admit to earlier in the series. He's still tough as nails Greer, but he's tough as nails Greer... with a soul. Plus, the scene when he faced down the beast? Best scene of the night. I can't wait to see what Jamil Walker Smith has up his sleeve next in terms of acting gigs.

On the flip side on the ship, we had something of a 'puzzling' B-Side story going on between Eli and Rush. From the outset, it seems like Rush was just toying with Eli and Brody for going against his orders, but when you get to the thick of things, I can't help but wonder if Rush is still pissed at Eli for erasing Amanda Perry's program/soul from the ship's databanks. The mind games he played with Eli was light in nature to an extent, but I think it was just a reminder to Eli who the head honcho in charge really is. However, I did like that Eli questioned Rush's sense of telling everyone what's best for them, because as cool as the Ancients' message/mission sounds, I can't help but be a bit skeptical. Just saying...

I usually don't give my reviews any ratings, but I'm giving last night's SGU a B for effort in character development, especially those of Ronald Greer and Varro.

So what did you guys think about the episode? Was the hunt for love worth it? Or worthless?

Prolonged frustration of the show's cancellation caught up to me after reviewing "Deliverance," putting me in a state of mind of "Why Bother?" when it came to trekking on in the SGU review department. I sadly, and shamefully, admit my faux pas and hope that I didn't disappoint anyone in light of my severe lapse in judgment and hope you will continue with me on the final journey of the crew of the Destiny.

Last night's much anticipated episode featured David Hewlitt and Robert Picardo who reprised their roles of Dr. Rodney McKay and Richard Woosley, respectively, as they, along with Cols. Telford and Young, tried like hell to persuade the Langarians into giving them access to dial the Destiny with a modified program/calculation of McKay's to prevent the planet from erupting. Meanwhile, Dr. Rush and the 'consciousness' of Dr. Amanda Perry create a sort of mental holodeck with drastic results. Both stories were pretty intense in the suspense vein, especially the 'A' plot involving the Langarians, because I seriously was thinking, and most definitely wanted, Young and gang to get away with their "Ocean's Eleven"/Saved By The Bell-esque trickery with the communication stones, just only to see if McKay's calculations would work. Sadly, we didn't see Telford return to the Destiny, but at least we know that he can return if SGC finds a viable (and willing) planet to experiment on.

The Great Communication Stone Caper

Langarian Ambassador Ovirda (guest star Victor Garber) had every reason to be scared of what Young, Telford, Woosley, and McKay were asking of him. Of course, hearing that planets have exploded when trying to dial the ninth chevron would have me in a tizzy as well if someone came to me with such a proposition. The thing is that while it was a bit risky, Ovrida could have at least let McKay confer and compare data to see if they had a feasible plan. So with the Langarians' stubbornness in the matter, I could see where Telford and Woosley were coming from in their suspicions of Lucian Alliance interference way before Telford came up with the sound bites to uphold their claims. But the whole debacle raised several questions and dusted off some old theories/feelings as well.

First, Telford and Woosley stressed that the Lucian Alliance would be trying to access Langaria's core by force, but wouldn't it be more plausible for the space pirates to try and access McKay's program first to secure their travel to the Destiny? I know that the LA nine out of ten have no clue of the program's existence, but this goes back to my sentiment of how incredibly dumb the Lucian Alliance is. Once they get control of the Destiny, then what? It is of no use to them since there is no way of getting it back the Milky Way and Pegasus galaxies, making their whole plan basically a pointless suicide mission. How did these guys become Big Bads again?

Second, I loved how McKay raised his eyebrow at Telford's notion of the Destiny mission being his own. Is there still some sort of resentment between Telford and Young on who's really in charge of the Destiny? It would make sense given that each man has sort of picked a side of whether or not they should go home or finish the Destiny's personal mission. Telford is gung ho on getting those people off that ship, and personally I don't blame him one bit, because the people aboard the Destiny (at least most of them) are not equipped to be there in no shape way or form. The strange thing was given the hell they've been through trying to retrieve those people, Telford asked McKay to join the crew for the long haul. Could this be an inkling of Telford agreeing with Rush on the 'true mission' of the Destiny and it's inhabitants, or at least compromising to get the right people for the job? If this is the case, it goes to show how far Telford has come in the eyes of viewers from a pertinacious grunt to a viable leader for the crew. Or co-leader at least.

Where Is My Mind?

The consciousness of Amanda Perry went from a much-needed humane component for Rush's character to a disturbing, obsessive A.I. program, channeling characteristics of "2001: A Space Odyssey's" HAL 9000.It was a bit of a let down for both Amanda Perry and Ginn to be discarded so quickly after being reintroduced and 'saved' in a way that could have opened up doors for more stories involving the characters. For both Amanda and Ginn to appear at will as guides on the ship was intriguing and could have went places. Maybe the writers were feeling that they needed Rush to be focused without Amanda as a distraction, which last night clearly showed her as being to the mad scientist. Despite the distraction, Amanda showed a softer, caring side of Rush that was genuine and not laced with some forms of subterfuge depending on the situation at hand. Having to lose Amanda not once, but twice now might make the already bull-headed man od science a bit more detached in the long run. Then again, Rush still has his other love with the Destiny, so technically he didn't lose too much...

So that's my review of SGU's Seizure as I saw it. I would talk about Greer's invincibility factor, but then I could spend all day on that subject. So I will spare you that much. Your thoughts?

More is at stake as the crew is met with a highly perplexing problem that involves not one, but two incarnations of Dr. Nicholas Rush. Let the madness begin...

Here are a few possibly spoilerish (possibly not) points of interest to look out for during tonight's show.

POSSIBLE SPOILERS!!!!

1. The Episode Title Says It All...

Two Destinies could mean a lot of possibilities for the characters involved, but how the crew from the Destiny will utilize this rare sight and how it even came to be will be something of note. Admittedly, I didn't grasp this plot point when it was first presented, thinking they would take it an opposite way instead. Thankfully (?), I was wrong.

2. Rush Getting Back Up... From Young?!

This might not be all that surprising to some, but with the problems (old and recent) between these two on a particular subject, it just goes to show how far these two have come from killing each other to actually working together for once. Which leads us to...

3. Surprising Sacrifices

I'm not going to divulge much into this one, but I was shocked nonetheless. Plus, this little nugget might (and I stress might) be the basis of arguments concerning implausible character choices/development.

4. Two Major "Deaths"

These are the doozies and they are gasp worthy.

With those four major plot points that I thought were of note, I'm interested to see what you guys have to say about this episode tonight. Until then, he's a clip from tonight's episode to tide you over:

So what do you guys expect will go down?

Due to Mondays being a complete war zone on my DVR and TV, plus my job going into the 8 o'clock hour on that night, my review was delayed. SyFy moving the show to Monday nights did not receive a big whoop from me and now you can see why. So without further adieu, let's discuss the beginning of the end of SGU.

The return of Stargate Universe was a bittersweet experience, which possibly impaired my judgment on this week's episode. As I stated in my review for the fall finale, this SGU story didn't click with me at all in the grand scheme of things. The return of Telford and the seed ship was a huge plus, but I was highly left unimpressed when the cliffhanger was presented because I knew the crew would make it out in the end. After watching "Deliverance", my attitude towards "Resurgence" still remains the same and, in some respects, solidified my original statement on the two part story as a whole.

We didn't learn anything new during the duress on Destiny and the episodes only play as a standard crisis of a week situation. The major plot points within the two episodes are minor within the entire narrative of the series and should've had a better base to accommodate their importance. In short, the episodes weren't epic in the tradition of last year's finale or midseason finale and didn't leave anyone talking about what could happen next. Sadly, the only thing about SGU that was mentioned during hiatus was the show's cancellation and the ramifications that followed.

Be that as it may, the major plot points that came out of "Deliverance" were pretty notable despite being muted by all the noise around them. First up is the explosion of the seed ship, which was a shame given that since the hostility of the Ursini was designated null and void, they could've helped the crew get home. Despite that fact, Rush is probably happy as hell to not have to worry about that nuisance again. But he has more to worry about soon... Second, Chloe is technically not a danger anymore and finally has something to do than grope Lt. Scott when he needs it. Wonder what the B.A.G. wanted with her? Did she incidentally give them information on the Destiny? Was she just a vessel to collect information? If so, then that would be pretty wild, but I can't ignore the issue of Rush being spared in the procedure?

Now will Chloe's newfound knowledge (given to her by the Blue Alien Group) pit her against Eli, Rush's other partner in science? I can see plenty happening there. Also, will Chloe be more tight lipped about Rush's shenanigans than Eli is at the moment? Plus, I'm glad Lt. Scott admitted to his fear about Chloe's condition and moving past that obstacle. I just wish he had of admitted while she was being transformed. I mean he did in so many ways, but he never came to terms with it. At least not in my eyes, that is. The guy has come a long way and I'm sure he's got a lot of good things heading his way.

All in all, "Deliverance" was a good episode in SGU canon, but as a midseason premiere, I was disappointed a little. Now, the next two episodes are amazing and I will have information on those later. With that said, it makes you wish like hell that SyFy had of waited till this summer to make an announcement about SGU, because things sound like they will get even better as the show heads toward its premature conclusion.

Sigh...

Don't get me wrong. The space battle with the new alien enemies was pretty epic and the return of Lou Diamond Phillips's Col. Telford was far overdue. But unfortunately in the end, I was left with a bitter, bland taste in my mouth when the credits rolled. What just happened?

By looking at the pace and overall threat in "Resurgence", the episode didn't really feel like a midseason cliffhanger to me, but rather a two parter of which should've occurred earlier in the season. For instance in "The Greater Good" and "Malice", the first two parter of this season, the stakes were raised, people died, and the revelation of the bridge could've been a quintessential way to leave fans hanging and speculating for the next few months. The end of "Resurgence" didn't do that for me. Instead, I'm just simply waiting for SGU to return with new episodes without having the need to speculate on what's going to happen next.

In short, "Resurgence" felt like a standard Star Trek episode where you knew everyone would make it out alive, no matter how dire the circumstances. With that being said, and I stress this point to my utmost ability, it doesn't mean "Resurgence" wasn't a good episode. It just wasn't the caliber of last year's midseason finale,"Justice", which had fans talking for months about how would Rush make it back to the Destiny and what would the consequences be for Young when that happened. While there were cliffhangers, they aren't worth agonizing over during the hiatus. Good or bad thing? I'm still on the fence about that.

Now that I've acknowledged over that elephant in the room, let's talk about some of the pros of the episode.

First off, the scene between Eli and Rush was one of the highlights of the hour as the two characters finally vented from their losses of their loved ones, which was also long overdue. How Rush used berating Eli as means to critique himself as a person was a stroke of genius to the point that it was like watching a character time paradox between the mad scientist and the boy genius. In a lot of instances, Eli and Rush are the same people at different stages of their lives, with the Destiny serving as a 'personality crossroads' for the both of them to see not only what they lost as a person, but who they can become later in life as well. Eli has a heart attached to his science, while Rush doesn't to an extent. This alienates Rush from his fellow man in the name of science, which he seems perfectly fine about. Eli on the other hand seems to thrive on communication and the company of others, which in Rush's eyes is a deterrent that must be dealt with. On the other hand, Eli never wanted to be a super scientist to begin with, something Rush seems to forget a lot when it comes to steering Eli in the path of "greatness". It will be intriguing to see where David Blue (Eli) and Robert Carlyle (Rush) take the complexity between their characters in the latter half of this season, because they continue to shine when they bounce their distinctive personalities off of each other.

Chloe's done something, but was it good or bad? It would be more of a surprise if Chloe actually screwed over the crew of the Destiny by her actions in the finale, but something is telling me that she's has helped them out of a pickle. Again. I had really hoped that the episode was going to focus more on her transition more instead of the time given in the final product, which is a shame. What is more interesting is Chloe warning to not trust the Ursini (the aliens who were with Telford). Was this really a warning from Chloe? Or the alien DNA rapidly taking over her body?

The TJ/Varro story line is heating up, but I wonder how Col. Young will take it if he finds out? It was in fact Varro's hand (inadvertently) that shot TJ, causing her to lose her baby. Now that he's on the verge of divorce, will Col. Young let Varro take 'his girl', too?

All in all, 'Resurgence' left me wanting more in a midseason finale. As an overall episode of SGU? It was pretty good.

Your thoughts?

In this sneak peek clip of the Stargate Universe mid-season finale, Rush, Colonel Young and the team debate chasing a distant energy signature into an area outside of the course mapped out by Destiny. Rush wants to investigate but it’s a day’s journey FTL to get there and Park, Eli, Dale and Brody question the wisdom of pursuing an energy signature so far off course from Destiny’s mission, not to mention the fact that the crew has had less than pleasant experiences with other alien life forms. What’s the source of this energy signature? Does the crew encounter more hostile aliens? Watch the clip and tune in to the mid-season finale on Tuesday, November 30 at 9:00 PM to find out. Thank you so much for posting and have a Happy Thanksgiving!

Is this a bad thing? Not at all. The episode gave us answers on two of the long running mysteries on the show, while slightly setting up the mid-season finale for next week by using character growth as the lead. Just about everyone got a chance to shine tonight and we saw some deep character moments from the least likely of subjects.

The Story

So we finally found out what happened to Those Who Stayed Behind on the planet created by the aliens, but yet still have no clue as to what happened to them. My thoughts? The Blue Aliens Group are behind the return of the group as well as the planet they tried to call home, which begs the question: what is their endgame? If they want the Destiny, are they trying to get ahold of the message Dr. Rush discovered? What will they do with the information once they recover it?

As for the flash at the end of the Kino feed, could that have been the obelisk activating, sending them across the galaxy to say goodbye to their counterparts before their final journey 'home'?

On the flipside, the return of Dr. Caine and his "flock" also sent the whole TJ's baby story line into a tailspin, because now we don't know if TJ's baby is actually dead or if there is something else going on we don't know about. While I'm leaning towards the former, I'm pretty sure that anything is possible at this point in terms of plot twists and surprise revelations on SGU. Then again, TJ's visions of talking to Caine during the Lucian Alliance incursion could've been a premonition/warning of sorts to the group's 'return'. In that regard, it would be plausible for TJ's baby to be deceased given that the people she thought she was talking to were deceased as well.

In the same incident, TJ's final conversation with Dr. Caine last night mirrored the one they had at the start of the season, which revolved around the concept of faith. I will get more into this later.

While the rest of the crew were dealing with the whole return of Those Who Stayed Behind, Chloe was dealing with her impending death/transformation. This story line set up the stage for next week's mid season finale, which seems to be epic based on the trailer at the end of last night's episode. Will Chloe's newfound powers come to some use, or will it be too late to save her?

Characters

Last night, Ronald Greer showed a sign of... what can we call it? Weakness? Tenderness? A heart? In more than one scene, mind you! The scene between Ronald and Chloe as he asked for her forgiveness (for when he has to kill her when she changes) was one of the true highlights of the episode. As he delivered Ronald's scared, remorseful plea, Jamil Walker Smith knocked his performance across several universes, breaking Ronald's mold of being the hardheaded, stone cold grunt we've all come to know at the same time. It was a great turn for the character and I hope to see more of this side of Master Sergeant Ronald Greer in the future.

Chloe has pretty much came to terms with her impending death by idly waiting for the day to arrive. It's traumatic for her to have some sort of use for the crew, but since they have no way of harnessing it to their advantage, she must pay the ultimate price, which is unfortunate. The other sad thing? Scott seemingly has came to terms with Chloe's dilemma, which we thought wouldn't happen given his expression at the end of Cloverdale (yet he still held her hand). He truly loves Chloe, so it was very sad for her to turn him away to make the blow of her death seem a bit less painful. He was the only person who's really stood by her through this entire ordeal, which makes denying his entrance all the more tragic. This might not end well next week, people, so be prepared for some frustration to come our way with this scenario.

TJ managed to balance her feelings and her duties tonight in a remarkable way, because with all the stress she's been under, I don't see how she hasn't snapped yet. One would think the reveal of her baby not being with Those Who Stayed Behind would've been the switch to trigger her emotional breakdown, but surprisingly it didn't. Instead, TJ used logic to deduct what she probably knew all along, which leads me to my final thoughts of the night.

Theme

Faith vs. logic/science were the ongoing themes of tonight's episode, bringing me back to TJ and Caine's conversations from both "Intervention" and last night's episode that I mentioned earlier. 'Dead' Caine gave TJ advice on having faith that her baby was in a better place, which is similar to what 'Angel' Caine kind of told her in "Intervention" about knowing her beliefs and who she was being everything she will ever need. The correlations between both scenes are uncanny, except the difference this time around was TJ prepping 'Dead' Caine to move on as 'Angel' Caine did for TJ in "Intervention". It was as if this story line had come full circle, but there is a nagging thought in the back of my head that says this situation is far from over.

Also, the scene between Rush and Caine was pretty awesome in terms of the religion debate between the two. Caine's hopeful outlook on their "miraculous" return was shot down by Rush's impeccable logic of the whole situation, because it really didn't make sense in neither a biblical or scientific nature. It was as if Rush was having the 'last laugh' at Caine's blind faith, which turns out ultimately got Caine and the others killed in the end, because they didn't bother to use logic with their faith when they decided to stay behind. Plus, Rush is still shooting down the concept of the message he cracked originating from God, which had a plenty of SGU fans in a tizzy when it was revealed a couple of weeks ago, me included. Religion can have a place in science fiction, but I think it would get a little too preachy if it lands on SGU. However, with the concept of the message and where it originates, can we avoid explaining that without bring religion into the mold?

Before I sign off, there was one more two thing that stuck out oddly to me this week:

- Eli and Rush both got over their vengeance spells pretty quick this week, especially after the hell they raised after finding their loved ones killed by a deranged lunatic. Maybe a good significance of time has passed? Hopefully that's the case...

I really, really enjoyed your comments last week and can't wait to hear what you have to say this time around. What do you guys think? Are the Blue Aliens the equivalent of the Wraith and Ori from the previous Stargate series? Or are they just a pesky menance that you're growing tired of? Also, do you really think Chloe is a danger to the crew? And was there finally closure in TJ's story line?

Sound off below and in our Forums!

P.S. Sorry for the barrage of questions.

This week's Stargate Universe recap is actually a review, because there is a lot to discuss after this mind blowing episode. While tonight's airing was actually my second time seeing it, it still held a dramatic punch and contrasted how far this makeshift crew of the Destiny has come along.

Love and Revenge

Tonight we saw the loss of Ginn (Julie McNiven) as well as the loss of Dr. Amanda Perry (Kathleen Munroe) at the hands of Simeon (Robert Knepper). This tragic double death sent both Dr. Rush and Eli into a state of vengeance, which governed their actions (or in Eli's case wannabe actions) aboard and off the Destiny. In my personal opinion, Rush had the most logical reason for a breakdown than Eli did, because there was a history between Rush and Dr. Perry that extended pre-Desitny days. Eli had only known Ginn for a couple of days, maybe a week or two, depending on the time lapse on the show. If Ginn had have been Chloe, then I would understand the extent of Eli's anger. With that being said, I'm not suggesting Eli shouldn't have been upset at all, but the extent of his vengeance over someone he barely knew was a bit much to me. Gladly, Young talked some sense into him, but that talk still didn't stop Eli from acting like a kid.

As for Rush, Amanda's death was senseless, because she was an innocent bystander in the whole debacle with the Lucian Alliance. Plus, Dr. Rush beat himself up because of his inability to trust those around him indirectly was the cause of Amanda's death, which could've been avoided if he had have come clean with the rest of the crew about the bridge. Does that mean he has himself to fault for her death? Not really, because Rush might lay some blame on Col. Young and Camile Wray for even letting the Lucian Alliance remain on the ship. This last statement leads me to my next assessment...

Power and Control

Rush killing Simeon was significant as more than just a vengeance kill in my eyes, because it raised new scenarios on how the aftermath can play out. First, if it ever got out that Rush knowingly killed Simeon, who was willing to give up information about the attack on Earth, then the newly formed truce between he and Col. Young is basically nullified. That was some epically important information and by Rush acting with instinctive vengeance and not rationally will make him even more distrustful in the eyes of his "companions." However, the chance of that coming out is slim to none, unless Rush stupidly admits it to someone on the ship. I also feel that Rush killing Simeon kind of works in his favor for Destiny's overall mission. If the crew is still worried about saving Earth, then their mind is still on home, which can put a damper on the new mission at hand. Without a "home" to yearn for, the crew will have to focus on the destination in front of them. I know that's a bit extreme, but that's just me.

In short, the Power War goes to Rush this time, but the question now is if he's fit to actually use it?

Other Observations

- I'm not feeling how the crew is treating Chloe. While I know she might be a risk, I hate that she's been demoted to a lab rat to be yelled at out of fear or anger when she doesn't comply with everyone's comfort zones. Instead of fearing what she's capable of, they might want to embrace her abilities and try to use them to their advantage, without acting as if she will literally stab them in the back.

- I personally didn't see why Simeon would abandon ship. If he was that down for the cause, then why not kill himself and be done with it? I know he might've had a plan to hop gates back to the other Lucian Alliance members, but then what? I guess I wasn't meant to understand the minds of intergalactic pirates.

- Lt. Scott is quickly becoming the sane, moral compass on the ship, which is a vast difference from last year. He's growing into his own and is comfortable with his role as second in command on the ship. He's smart, resourceful and knows how to hold his head in crazy situations, which has gotten a lot of people out of trouble recently. Move over, Eli. There is a new wonder boy in town.

So what did you guys think about the episode? Was there something you saw that I didn't? Do you think the aftermath of this shake up will bring the crew together or not?

Two words about tonight's SGU... Game. Changer. The long awaited reveal went down and my popcorn bowl was filled by the time the ringside bell sounded. Also, Simeon really worked my nerves, but it's Robert Knepper so we knew he would be trouble in the long run...

Col. Young, TJ, Camile, and Lt. Scott all have a meeting about Ginn and her intel on the Lucian Alliance. They feel that the best way to act on this intel is to have Ginn switch with someone from SGC so she can talk to the officials back home. Col. Young okays this move. When Camile goes to inform Ginn of this development, she's a bit amused to find Ginn a bit frazzled in her bunk with Eli's shirt on her bed. ELI!!! Get 'em!!!

Meanwhile, the Destiny encounters another ship in their path, which cause Dr. Rush to stop the ship on his own. The ship isn't a seeder ship and looks as if it got it's behind handed to it in a space battle. After Col. Young berates Dr. Rush for being MIA again, the two decide to check the ship out using the space suits. Lt. Scott asks to go in Col. Young's place, but Young assures his second in command that he's good and promises not to leave Rush behind this time.

Eli visits Chloe and talks about feeling bad for not coming to see her as often. The two then discuss Eli's thing with Ginn, which signifies Eli has moved on from pursuing Chloe, which can be seen as a good thing.

Rush and Young make it onto the ship and end up discovering the same pods from the seeder ship which contained the aliens and they are all open. They deduce that the aliens are dead and keep it moving. Once the two men discover how to activate the life support and other functions of the ship, it malfunctions and takes off some distance from the Destiny, leaving Rush and Young stranded. Uh oh.

As the crew tries to figure out a solution to retrieve their two crew mates, Dr. Rush tries to figure out how to solve their dilemma without revealing the bridge to everyone else. He comes up with a 'viable' solution: Call Dr. Amanda Perry to help them with the problem.

Simean stops by Ginn's quarters to scare her into keeping her mouth shut about the attack, but is stopped by Camile, who arrives to collect Ginn to use the Communication Stones. However, this information isn't revealed to Simeon. After Eli gives a goodbye goofy grin to Ginn, the switch takes place and Dr. Amanda Perry arrives on the ship. As soon as Dr. Perry reaches the Console Room, Dr. Rush makes a ruse for Col. Young on the stranded ship to go out of earshot and makes Eli leave Dr. Perry's side. Once the coast is clear, Dr. Rush shows Dr. Perry some equations through the Kino feed for her to copy. Dr. Perry gets the equations and leaves the console room under the suspicion of the other scientists.

When Dr. Perry enters the corridor, she's stopped by Simeon, who I'm seriously trying to figure out how is he walking around as freely as he is at the moment. When Dr. Perry explains she's not Ginn and that the switch took place, Simeon doesn't have enough time to be pissed before Greer shows up to tell the creep to keep it moving. Thank God we have Greer, people... When Dr. Perry finds the bridge, she marvels over it before Dr. Rush reveals that he has broke the master code, giving him control of the ship. He also tells Dr. Perry she's the only one who can trust with this information. When the others search for Dr. Perry, Dr. Rush commands her not to answer them. Man, if he's not making mistakes left and right then I will pay you; especially when Dr. Perry actually turns the Destiny around and can't provide valid answers as to how she did such a feat.

Eli feels as if something's up and replays the Kino tapes before the feed was dropped to see what Dr. Rush was conveying to Dr. Perry. When he writes down the same equations, Eli takes Volker and Brody to the location on the ship. When the trio finds the bridge, they are pissed... On the alien spacecraft, Young overhears the commotion through the comm feed and immediately kicks Dr. Rush's ass for his treachery. The two have a decent smackdown for a minute with Col. Young blaming Rush for the death of Riley and other issues they ran into. Young comes to his senses after a minute and stops beating Rush into a pulp, wanting to know why the doctor held the bridge discovery a secret. Simply put, Rush didn't trust Young, because the good colonel didn't trust himself. Plus, Rush reveals that he overrode the Destiny's leadership program last week, and if I am correct in my assumption, this revelation means Col. Young's last minute stance to regain his position as leader of the Destiny was for naught in some areas, mainly by playing with his emotions/confidence.

After some cool down time, Rush breaks down what he was trying to hide, which is basically the true mission for the people aboard the Destiny. It's not about going home, but completing the Destiny's main objective. What could that possibly be? Well, thanks to a discussion with my editor, Jon Lachonis, here's what Rush was getting at:

The Ancients discovered traces of a message that was transmitted at the time of the Big Bang, so it could only come from God, or technology that existed before the universe was created. This turns all concepts of the universe on their head, since time is also a byproduct of the event that created the Big Bang. He [Rush] seemed to be saying that the Ancients determined it to be some kind of technology or information that would allow the bearer to in effect manipulate the universe... Like an owners manual, I suppose.

In short, this might be the greatest discovery known to man. Now, whether or not Young believes Rush (or even cares) is a different matter until Rush declares that solving this mystery might be the only way back home. Hmmm...

The Destiny shows up to the dilapidated ship and a harrowing rescue ensues with Rush and Young having to jump from the ship and land on the Destiny with their magnified boots. The process was a bit challenging , but the guys managed to make it back in one piece.

Once they are back, Rush meets up with Amanda and the two pick up the chemistry they had from the last time they were together. This time Rush is not backing down, until Eli shows up acting all possessive over Ginn's body, which is kind of... scary. After snapping on Amanda for even accepting a kiss from Rush in Ginn's skin, Eli runs to catch up with Rush, who is heading to the bridge. Too bad neither of them sees Simeon slither into Ginn/Amanda's room... Sweet Mother in Heaven, the crap has hit the fan...

From The Bar of Brody's Distillery

- Wow. I told you guys sparks would fly when the bridge secret would be found out, especially after Riley's death and Telford's desertion. I didn't expect to know the "true" mission to be revealed so soon in the season. And what about that mission? Is it a groundbreaking goal to accomplish or is it a bit much? This scenario reminds me of how I felt about LOST when it became apparent for the castaways that getting off the island was not going to be a concrete option. With this new mission on their shoulders, will the crew of the Destiny accept their new fate? Will they learn to put "home" on the back burner for a minute to solve this mystery which could be the answer to a lot of mankind's conundrums? I, for one, would be totally and utterly pissed if this was presented to me, even if it did mean me getting home, for two reasons with the number one reason being pretty obvious. I don't think I could just accept the new assignment on whim without going crazy, but the second reason would be the notion of are we, the human race, ready to have access to such knowledge? To me? No. Not at all. So it would be a frivolous, precarious journey to obtain something as equally dangerous as the trip itself to retrieve it. I don't know. Maybe I'm being a bit anxious for the crew getting home without the prospect of them never returning to be an option. Am I alone in my assumptions?

- Eli and Ginn was a nice change of pace for our boy wonder, but God did he get attached a bit quickly. The way he was acting you would've thought they had been dating for a few months, not a couple of days. It's a bit much in my book, and with Ginn now dead... Umm. Just wait and see.

- I knew Robert Knepper wasn't going to be up to any good, but I didn't think he would completely snap without backup. I was pegging on another Lucian Alliance uprising, not a one man mission. Again, just wait and see where this heads.

What are your thoughts on last night's episode?

Let's just say the losing party isn't to be trusted after this defeat...

He Might Command This Crew, But I Control This Ship...

After Col. Young finds out that his wife Emily wants a divorce (and is serious about it), our fearless leader shuts down while the crew wonders what the hell is his problem. Camile and TJ each try to get him to talk, but the Colonel doesn't accept it, choosing Brody's alcohol for his therapy instead.

This is where the problem starts, because Col. Young has a vivid dream of the Blue Man Group aliens attacking again and wanting Chloe returned to them immediately, but the dream ends horribly with the ship exploding after the aliens open fire on them. At the next meeting with scientists, Col. Young orders for the weapons systems to be worked on, because of the crucial point of his dream dealing with weapons malfunction. Camile, as well as the other scientists, sees this as a problem given the last time they tried to work on the weapons systems, someone got hurt. The colonel has another dream, which features the shields working properly until more alien ships show up and start blasting the Destiny until it goes up in flames again.

Becoming more and more frustrated, Young talks to Camile about his dreams and what they could mean, because they are becoming too vivid to ignore. After Young recounts his dreams to Camile, she tells him that the solution may be the one thing he's not willing to do. She then suggests seeing Chloe for answers.

Meanwhile, Dr. Rush stops by to see Chloe and asks her to look over some equations, but she balks at his request, because she thinks Rush played her in trying to "help" her. Rush butters Chloe up by discussing the positive side of her alien capabilities, ending with him talking to her about Destiny's true mission, which he asks for her help on. Not sure about this...

When Young visits Chloe, it's a different story. He calms her fears, but is slowly realizing his own in the process. Chloe wants to find a solution and fast, but despite Young's promises of things getting better, she is ready for the inevitable to happen.

While Young looks over some paperwork, he is called to the communications room by Brody, like in the dream, about the scenarios in the dream. This time Young tells them basically what failed in the dream and predicts everything that happened. He has a plan.

Young retrieves Chloe and walks her to the corridor where the alien ship took kidnapped her the first time. She willfully, yet fearfully, enters the corridor and waits to be taken. Scott finds out and decks Col. Young on sight. After Chloe leaves and Greer breaks up the fight, the aliens still approach the ship to board it, inducing a laughing fit out of Young. As communications die out, Young finds himself facing an alien, who shoots Young, waking him up.

Later Young is approached by TJ, who decides to tell him about the "dream" she had and that their daughter is actually safe with Caine. The two argue at the craziness of such a story, but Young doesn't believe it and thinks TJ should let it go. TJ tearfully counters that she knows where Young is heading and fears he won't return like she did. Wow...

Scott later visits Young in his quarters to tell him the ship dropped out of FTL with no warning, no gates to dial, and no countdown clock initiated. Unfortunately, Young is way too wasted to deal with this, which disappoints Scott. Meanwhile, Rush tries to solve this new problem, but has no idea where to look. Phantom Franklin tells him to look closer... At the same time, Eli explains to them how he found a simulation program, which is the exact scenarios Col. Young have been dreaming about it. This sends off warning flags in Camile. On the bridge, Dr. Rush figures out the program, but is now trying to figure out why...

As the scientists, Eli, Camile, and Scott make sense of the Destiny sending Col. Young 'tactical info' through a dream program, Scott asks Chloe if she knows anything about it. Not sure what to do, Scott orders everyone to stand by for an eventual attack. As he does this, Camile and Rush notice Scott taking charge, which prompts them to ask Scott to assume command officially. As Scott denies this, Rush and Camile break it down for Scott: The Destiny has shut down due to the Colonel shutting down, because it has "identified" Young as the leader on the ship. That puts a whole new spin on some things...

After Rush and Camile lay this burden on him, Scott runs straight to Col. Young and demands for his superior to get his ass in gear. Now. While Young tries to act as if he's not fit to lead, going as far as revealing "killing" Riley, Scott doesn't let that deter him into getting Young to shape up. After a speech from Lt. Scott, which I can't do justice repeating here, Col. Young cleans himself up and resumes command. As soon as he does this, the Destiny jumps into FTL and all is well in the kingdom again. The Destiny has claimed it's leader, and Rush is so not happy about this.

Eli and Ginn Sitting In A Tree...

With all the crazy going on around them, Eli gets to know Ginn a little more and the two hit it off pretty well. Greer notices this and sets out to make sure Eli becomes a "man" by giving the two math geeks some alone time. During said alone time, Eli freaks and runs to get some pep talk from his boy Greer. While they talk, Ginn watches Eli's personal Kino diaries, which Eli finds her doing. He isn't upset, but Ginn still plants a kiss on Eli, who happily returns the favor. God, I pray this is genuine and not a ploy of the Lucian Alliance...

What did you guys think of tonight? There won't be a From The Bar of Brody's Distillery this week due to us being drunk from it enough after tonight's episode...

Taking a page from the hallucinatory "what if" stories in the vein of Buffy the Vampire Slayer's "Normal Again," tonight's SGU gave us "Cloverdale", a character study into the mind of Lt. Matthew Scott after he's been attacked by a hallucinatory flesh-eating organism, propelling him to a small town named Cloverdale where he's about to marry Chloe.

The show starts with Scott coming home to Cloverdale with Greer to meet his "father" Col. Young and his future "brother-in-law" Eli. Before he reaches them, Scott is hit by a car driven by Brody. Other shipmates in this fantasy include Dr. Volker, who is the town's pharmacist; Vanessa James, Scott's ex and a barmaid at Brody's; TJ as a paramedic; Col. Telford, who is the town sheriff; and Dr. Rush, who is the pastor presiding over the wedding.

Back in the "real" universe on another planet, a blue lifeform has taken over Scott's left arm while his away team members (Rush, TJ, Greer, Eli, Volker and Chloe) all try to stop the spread of the organism. Nothing TJ gives Scott works and the creatures that attacked him are getting pretty hard to take out. Rush thinks it's bad for them to bring Scott back on the Destiny, where the spores from his injury can spread and take over the ship, but suggests Col. Young send in supplies to help them battle the lifeform. After nothing works, including amputation, the situation looks dire and the creatures are getting closer.

Greer is determined not to lose Scott and brings back more soldiers to fight off the creatures, while TJ tries to pull off a miracle. After getting a rundown of the possibilities in case the alien organism makes its way onto the ship, Young demands all civilians back onto the Destiny, leaving Scott on the planet until he can be saved. While Chloe demands to stay with Scott, TJ discovers that the organism made its way to Chloe's shirt, but it didn't touch or infect her. This gives Chloe an idea and she leaves the camp.

While Greer and other grunts fend off the creatures by building a fort and using flamethrowers to keep the creatures from attacking, Eli tries to say goodbye to Scott, but is horrified when Chloe returns, revealing she was stung by the creatures on purpose. Dr. Rush asks Chloe why she did it, and after she explains the organism is not affecting her, he gets the idea to do a blood transfusion to save Scott. It works, but now Scott is part alien as well.

In the hallucination, Scott has a series of blackouts due to the alien spore taking over his body. While Scott slowly becomes aware that things aren't what they seem, he starts to get cryptic "messages" from Telford, Eli, and Rush about hi's interpretation of things in the real world. Eli declares that Scott is not a one-woman man and never has been one, which speaks volumes given that Eli is Chloe's brother in this hallucination and Scott's relationships have not been so great in the past.

In the hallucination, Scott visits Rush to talk about the wedding, but ends up getting a message as well. Rush tells him that he's not going to die, but eventually they all will. While waiting to get married, Scott asks Young for guidance; his "father" says he doesn't have the answers, but tells his "son" to wake up. At the wedding, Scott visibly gets better as Chloe's blood is being transferred into his body, but he finally "wakes up" after he sees Chloe as a half alien. Was Scott freaked out by the sight of Chloe and what is possibly coming her way? Time can only tell.

The interesting thing about Cloverdale is how it is a manifestation of Scott's psyche. For example, he thinks of Col. Young as his father, Greer his brother, and Rush as his somewhat 'savior'. Telford talks about his mind wipe by the Lucian Alliance and how it left him feeling guilty for his actions, which is probably how Scott perceived what was going through Telford's mind while he was on the ship. Eli being Chloe's brother in this hallucination also proves Scott's outlook on the relationship between the girl he loves and his other close friend, which he thinks is totally platonic on both sides. It was the world as he saw it, but it also showed how he's trying to deal with his new surroundings.

It's also interesting to note that no one from Scott's real family was used in his fantasy. This can be seen as either Scott's brain utilizing those in close vicinity of him in the hallucination or the hallucinogen enhancing Scott's true feelings about those around him being his family. There are probably more factors that can go into this scenario, but I'm sticking with those two for now and look forward to everyone else's interpretation.

Before I go, we did see TJ calling Rush out for lying about Chloe's so-called 'cure' from the alien gene, which I am sure Col. Young was thrilled to learn about. The complications are only going to make matters worse for the crew aboard the Destiny. I just hope no more lives are lost in the pettiness of it all.

What were your thoughts and interpretations of tonight's episode?

What lacked in cohesion, made up in seed planting for future conflicts. And who doesn't love a nicely planted garden of potential story lines?

Where Am I?

Eli walks into the Console Room and finds Chloe standing over a console. When he calls her name, Chloe snaps out of a daze, claiming she had no clue of how she got there. Uh, huh.

Eli brings up this incident, along with other recent Chloe strangeness, to an already freaked out Lt. Scott who has no answers to give him, because Scott has already tried to find some on his own. Next, Eli starts to discuss the rapid healing of Chloe's gunshot wound, but is interrupted by Col. Young, who has bad news from home. Eli's mother, who is HIV positive, is deathly sick at home and he needs to use the communication stones to visit her. Damn...

Distant Loved Ones

Rush is visited by Gloria and Dr. Franklin again as he tries to run the ship from the bridge. His latest project involves manipulating the countdown clock, which forces Franklin to ask Rush what is his intentions/reasoning behind his actions. Rush answers that the control of the ship is integral to the mission at hand. Does he mean the mission to get them back home or the mission that he thinks the Ancients has planned for them? Either way, Franklin/Gloria thinks its ludicrous for Rush to be working on controlling the ship without a crew. It doesn't help that Rush's actions are alienating his scientists as well, as he brings the Destiny out of FTL and ignoring Brody and Park's queries to why that is happening.

Eli gets debriefed by Mrs. Wallace's doctor on how she has refused to take her medicine, due to a bout with depression, which she is still fighting. Oh, and remember that Eli hasn't told his mother about his whereabouts, and hides behind the bodies he uses to visit her. When Eli tries to convey that he misses her and wants he to do better, Mrs. Wallace responds that if Eli really felt that way, then why isn't he there? Aww.

Meanwhile, Camile comes home, as well, but something is amiss with Sharon. Camile is worried. Back on the ship, Scott tries to communicate with Chloe after sex, but she cuts him off, asking to be just held. Later, Sgt. Greer voices his displeasure of Col. Young releasing the Lucian Alliance, who will each have their own escort while on the ship. Scott enters the room to announce that Chloe has gone missing. Uh oh...

There's Something About Chloe

Simeon enters the mess hall with his escort and whispers something jacked up to Park, which causes a chain reaction from a lot of people. While Volker demands for Simeon to apologize to Park, the Lucian Alliance member isn't prepared for Greer to appear out of nowhere and deal with his ass. After mouthing off some more, Simeon is thrown back in the brig per Greer's orders. That's what you get for messing with his woman. Wait. Is Greer claiming Park now as his own? Anyway, Greer informs everyone of Chloe's disappearance and Col. Young's request to form teams to look for her. It doesn't take long for Vanessa James to find Chloe in a storage room trying to break into a supply case. What the hell?

Meanwhile, Col. Young goes to see Simeon, who apologizes profusely. What the hell happened here? Drastic change from last week, no? On the bridge, "Gloria" warns Rush that lack of sleep will make him sloppy. To prove her point, just ask Telford and Riley.

Camile witnesses a changed person in Sharon, who loses her temper after she misplaces her keys. Could this outburst have anything to do with their situation or Sharon's way of dealing with said situation, which is complicated with Camile being there now? Hmm... Back at the hospital, Eli visits Mrs. Wallace and slowly reveals his true whereabouts and the Stargate program through using ET, their favorite science fiction movie, as a springboard. Mrs. Wallace's reaction is priceless, but the aftermath is heartbreaking as she doesn't believe a word Eli says and asks him to leave immediately.

As TJ looks over Chloe, Col. Young asks her about her blackouts, which Chloe can't explain. Later, Scott looks through Chloe's things and finds her diary, which she has been writing in a lot lately. What he finds within the pages is alien symbols, which Scott and Rush remember being from the crashed alien ship they found on the planet Rush was stranded on. After some deliberations, Rush suggests Chloe could've been affected by the aliens on a cellular level to be some sort of spy. Young immediately wants Chloe to be put in quarantine to ensure the safety of the crew, but Rush thinks they should monitor Chloe's actions to learn what the deal is. Young accepts, but wants an escort with her at all times.

Corridor of Equations

Eli confides in Camile about Mrs. Wallace's illness and how he blames himself for her growing detachment from life since he's gone. Back on the Destiny, Dr. Rush takes Chloe to a secret corridor where he's been working on a ton of equations that are as long as a neighborhood block. More secrets, Rush? He asks Chloe if she remembers anything she sees on the wall, but she says she doesn't. He asks her to look again at a particular equation on the board, which Chloe looks at and solves it without blinking. Rush is amazed. So am I. After Rush returns Chloe to Scott's care, she reveals Rush's equation room to Scott, but not that she solved the problem in the blink of an eye.

Rush is on the Bridge when the Destiny jumps out of FTL, which I think he caused, but unintentionally. Brody spots this again and after not being able to reach Rush, he calls Col. Young, who is non too pleased. After deflecting questions of his whereabouts, Rush takes Young, Brody, and Park to the Equation Room, where he throws Chloe under the bus as being the cause of the ship's sudden FTL drops. Bastard. He does reveal that for Chloe to have solved that hard problem, then she has to be monitoring the make of the ship.

On Earth, Camile returns home to find a somewhat oddly subdued Sharon, who has made dinner and is knocking back wine bottles like a wino at a wine tasting party. After being visited by TJ, Varro confronts Simeon about his behavior, telling the brute to knock it off. Simeon reveals that the information they have been telling are lies anyway and when the Destiny crew realizes it, they will have the upper hand. Varro then flips the script on Simeon by revealing that the only person "talking" is Simeon himself, because the other Lucian Alliance members are seriously trying to blend in. Simeon declares he won't sell out, but Varro warns him that he better fall in line or get left behind.

Scott watches over Chloe, but when he answers a knock at her door, Greer and more soldiers stand behind it, ready to take Chloe away. Wow....

"I'm So Proud of You"

While walking the ship with an escort, Simeon is stopped by Greer, who decides to pick on him. Simeon calls Greer's bluff, but Greer stands his ground, sending Simeon on his way.

Camile talks with Sharon about what her deal is and it appears Sharon just misses the physical Camile is all. Wait. That's it? Moving on...

Eli returns to Mrs. Wallace's bedside to make one last plea to his mother to get better. She still feel that she has nothing to live for with Eli gone. Frustrated, Eli contacts Camile, who comes up with a bold ass plan, which involves having Mrs. Wallace use the communication stones to see Eli and his accomplishments. She's blown away and tells her son how proud of him she is.

While monitoring Chloe on a Kino, TJ warns Young that he can't keep Chloe in there for long. Later, Dr. Rush contacts Young with a way to cure Chloe. Hmmm...

So Not Over...

That plan? Have Chloe sit in the Ancient Repository of Knowledge chair to kill the alien in her and maintain her human side. What. The. Frak?!

Of course, Eli and Scott are against this idea, but TJ thinks it's sound. Young eventually caves in since it's their only option at the moment. They do the procedure, which Rush declares a success.

Back on Earth, Sharon visits Mrs. Wallace in the hospital after Camile and Eli suggested that the two be there for each other to help deal with their loved ones being lost in space. On the ship, Eli and Camile bond as well. Aww...

Rush returns to Chloe's quarters to talk to her in private. She asks Rush if she is really "cured." He admits that she's not. Bastard. Later on the bridge, "Gloria" asks Rush if Chloe can help with controlling the bridge, which he smugly declares if Chloe wants to retain her freedom then she better do as he says and keep her mouth shut. "Gloria" then asks if Chloe can even be trusted. Rush is stumped on that question. As he should be.

From Brody's Distillery

- Well, while I didn't care much for the pacing of the episode, the scene with Mrs. Wallace getting to see her son was a nice distraction from the chaos going on in this week's SGU installment. It was the only thing that got a positive emotional response out of me. The negative response is Rush hands down. The crew of the Destiny are pawns on a chessboard to him now. It's a bit sickening, don't you agree?

- Greer and Simeon. Both are not going to make things any better for either of their factions, which is sad, because the Destiny doesn't need any senseless violence at this point in time. Focus needs to be on the issue with Chloe and the impending Lucian Alliance attack on Earth, not bruised egos.

- Speaking of the damn Lucian Alliance's planned attack on Earth, I sure wish like hell that we could see SGC command deal with that impending hell that's about to descend on them. Maybe a web series, SyFy?

See you guys next week!

Hopefully, the network will move the show back to it's rightful spot during the mid season hiatus. Other than that, let's get to the recap.

Information Rendezvous

As the crew watches the space in front of them, they wonder what could be fast approaching them and if it will break to avoid collision. Col. Young doesn't wait for that to happen as he sends Brody to go ready the the weapons to blast the object. Rush recognizes the shape of the object as Ancient and realizes that the ship is just like the Destiny and has to be an Ancient Stargate seeder ship! The only problem? Rush knows this, which perturbs the hell out of Col. Young, who's trust issues with Rush are raging more than a teen's hormones.

The Seeder Ship

As Rush reveals that the two ships are exchanging information and data, Col. Young preps an away team to see what the ship has to offer. Rush wants to be on that away team, but Young places Brody and Volker in that task instead, citing needing Rush on the Destiny in case something goes wrong. I believe that he's just acting a bit paranoid, but I digress. The away team has two hours to do recon.

Telford stops Camile Wray to ask the status of the seeder ship and is non too thrilled to know Young is sending a team there without checking with him first. What the hell? Since when did we start checking in with Telford to wipe our asses?

The team, which consists of Scott, Greer, Volker, and Brody, enter the ship with a Kino. While Eli, Young and Park watch the events from the Console Room, a pissed Rush leaves to go to the "bathroom."

Chloe catches up with TJ about an appointment, but tries to get her friend to open up about the loss of the baby. TJ deflects the conversation to Chloe's problem, which is the quick healing of her leg. TJ is concerned. So are we.

Rush makes his way to the bridge of the ship and starts running diagnostics. Gloria appears again to let us know what we already know. Rush has discovered that the seeder ship could help the crew get them home. YAY! As far as Rush revealing that info? A different story... BOO!

The Away Team finds the seeder ship's control center and start to activate it. Meanwhile, Telford confronts Young on not informing him in on what's going on. He only wants to help and to pay Young back for saving his life. Also, he knows that Young is far past gone and needs to sit his ass down. Pronto. Luckily, Young isn't an ass and fills Telford in, letting him deal take some command of the situation.

On the seeder ship in an unknown area, an alien pod opens and a scaly hand reaches out. Uh-oh...

No Vacancy

Young stops by the holding cell of the Lucian Alliance and is not happy that they know of the Seeder Ship situation. Ginn wants to help, but Young harshly turns her down. Varros and Simeon want out, reminding Young of their cooperation and sacrifice to save him and the others. Young declines, despite Varros asking what would they have to do to prove themselves.

Eli discovers some fantastic readings from the Seeder Ship that he and Park beg for Rush to check out. Hmm... In the Conservatory, Young confronts Camile Wray on telling the prisoners about the Seeder Ship, but Camile stand her ground on treating the prisoners with respect, especially since they are the only LA members with intel on the impending Lucian Alliance attack on Earth. Young thinks its all a crock, and blows her off until Camile invites him to a memorial service for Riley. Young says he's there. The pain still lingers here, too, yall.

Rush reveals to Young that the Seeder Ship has enough power to dial the gate and get them home, but to do so he must go to the twin ship and set up a channel to transfer power from the Seeder Ship to the Destiny. Young orders him to go and my stomach drops at the excitement that is going on. Why? Because their feelings are about to get hurt. After Rush leaves, Eli notices that they have lost the Kino feed.

When Rush gets aboard the ship, Greer and Scott take him to a place they discovered within the ship. That place happens to be the manufacturing line for the Stargates. It's breathtaking (as the Stargate riff plays overhead insinuates), but Rush doesn't care and wants to go to the Control Center Room. Son of a...

In the Control Center Room, Volker gets a shock when an alien life form stands behind him... then collapses in exhaustion. Not what we had in mind, but okay!

Really. There's No Vacancy.

TJ tends to the Lucian Allianc soldiers and has to subdue Simeon from being an ass. Varros is the next person and he and TJ begin to flirt and bond over their shared losses: TJ, her baby/Varros, his wife. Varros gives TJ some advice, which was that after all his grief and anger, life is simply "lost". This is interrupted with TJ being called to go onto the Seeder Ship to tend to the alien. Telford volunteers to go as her escort.

As they reach the Control Center Room, TJ tends to the alien, who wakes up, speaking an foreign language. They try to communicate with it, but are mostly unsuccessful. The alien is harmless and looks defenseless. Rush suggests they grunts see if the alien is alone, while contacting Eli to start the power transfer to the gate. After some searching, Greer does indeed find more empty pods on the ship. Maybe a dozen.

Shattered Hopes

Camile calls all of the people on the Destiny to make their way to the control room ready to leave the Destiny. Young wants all the people on the Seeder Ship to head back to be ready to go through the Stargate. Rush argues that he must stay to keep the power flowing. The Stargate starts to dial and the cheer and hopefulness is in the air... only to be shut down just as quickly when the gate is disconnected. The power, as well as the Destiny's power, is being reverted to the ship. The aliens have taken out Dr. Rush and the soldiers guarding him. Young and Eli freak, both knowing that they need to do something quick, because if the Destiny is drained of power then they are screwed.

Telford, Greer, and Scott make their way to the Control Center Room, but are met with demands from Young to grab the soldiers and Rush, then proceed to come back to the Destiny to sever the link between the two ships. Telford volunteers to save the ship and revert the power to use the gate again. Eli proceeds to talk him through it. They have 15 minutes.

Left Behind

Just as Eli and Telford get things going, Greer, Scott, and Rush make it off the ship. While the team focuses on making sure the aliens don't enter the Destiny, Rush slips off. It is then when Eli and Park whine that they need Rush's help. As soon as Telford gets the connection up and running with three minutes left, the Destiny disconnects from the Seeder Ship! What the hell?!?!??! When Young demands how this happened, we are shown Rush in the bridge commanding the ship with Gloria standing beside him. Rush mutters that he had no choice, Gloria asks if he did it to save the crew? Or his dream? That bastard.

Young breaks the bad news to Telford, who takes it like a champ. He tells Young to not only take care of those people, but take care of himself as well. As the Destiny enters FTL, Telford discovers that he's surrounded by the aliens. Dear Mother of God, NOO!!!!

The crew deals with yet another loss in their numbers while trying to move on from another one. TJ thanks Varros for his help in saving her, Camile and Gree clean out Riley's room, and the others just stare off into space. Another battle lost.

Wow.

From Brody's Distillery

- The Destiny crew has been getting hit left and right lately and it's slowly taking a toll on Young and Rush, making them more unstable than ever. Young needs to just sit down. Period. He's getting on my nerves now with his growing God complex that's festering the morale of the ship. On the other end, you have Rush, who's secret has gotten one person killed and another one stranded. Man, I promise when that secret gets out the crap is going to hit the fan, along with someone's brain matter possibly.

- Telford came a long way and it pained me to see him get left on that ship, because not only was a good man left behind, but he was the only other person who could've stopped Young in his tracks and step in and lead. I was beginning to fear for Lou Diamond Phillips as he kept being billed a guest star and not a series regular, since he was physically on the ship. I pray when the others find out about the bridge that they go back and rescue Telford.

- Some funny moments were Greer revealing his tryst with Park, TJ subduing Simeon, and the away team trying to talk to the alien, which I was hoping would be a recurring character until he turned evil. Oh well.

So we shall see you guys next week! What were your thoughts?

DVD Review - Stargate Universe: 1.0

Okay, so we're a bit behind. Tuesday saw the release of the complete first season of Stargate Universe; while that set wasn't available for us to review, FOX graciously provided me with a copy of 1.0, the first-half set released on February 9. If you're like me and haven't started on this third series in the franchise yet, allow me to shed a little light on at least half of the situation.

The Show

Stargate has taken Star Trek's place as the mainstream science fiction franchise on television. First there was SG-1 for a decade, then five years of Atlantis, and now we have Universe. It's the "dark and brooding" member of the family, which either makes it cool or very uncool, depending on who you talk to.

The show centers around a multinational exploration team who find themselves stuck on an Ancient ship called the Destiny, which of course is out in the far-flung reaches of space, not unlike a ship called Voyager. It's fronted by Scottish actor Robert Carlyle, last seen as Jack Bauer's old friend in 24: Redemption. He's backed up by an interesting group of people, including Lewis Ferreira (whom I cannot take seriously as I either recall him as Michelle Dessler's weird brother on 24 or from his sitcom work back when he was going by the name Justin Louis), Ming-Na (ER) and Alaina Huffman (Smallville). There's not really anyone in the cast that you're going to go, "Wow, that's a huge name," but you could say that about any of the entries in the franchise - before Stargate, Richard Dean Anderson was still best known for MacGyver, after all.

The one thing that sets SGU apart from SG-1 and SGA is its tone. This is a considerably darker series than either of its predecessors, both of which were laced with a fair amount of humor. Stargate fans who have come to expect that have been turned off of SGU; others have embraced it. It's all a matter of personal preference. (I was amused by the one review I read in my research where someone apparently hated this series just because he also hated Battlestar Galactica.) I've sat through some pretty bleak shows that I enjoyed, so for me, it wasn't a big deal. However, newcomers to the show should be aware that this is vastly different from the two other series. I enjoyed it - I was just horribly frustrated that this release cuts off mid-season. You don't leave someone marooned on a planet and then not let me see what happens next!

The DVDs

Now we get to the heart of the matter. This is a half-season release. I abhor half-season releases, and here's why: not only are they double-dipping on the fans, but because they're being put out while a show is in production, they're not as well-rounded as a normal DVD set would be. (More on that in the special features section.)

There's no interior box art or booklet involved, and the discs are set up flipbook-style, with discs one and two on opposite sides of the holder and disc three in the back of the box. At least the episode titles are on the discs, though you're out of luck when it comes to special features, which are scattered over all three discs.

This set only contains the first ten episodes ("Air" through "Justice"), although it contains an extended version of "Air." Since I didn't watch the pilot when it aired, I have no way of knowing just how extended it actually is.

Video-wise, you get a 1:78:1 widescreen presentation, which looks pretty good for a DVD transfer. I didn't have any problem making out darker colors or space effects. Audio-wise, there's an English 5.1 Dolby Digital track and a Spanish Dolby Surround track; you get three sets of subtitles here - English SDH, Spanish and French. Makes sense for a multinational show to have support for multiple languages, doesn't it?

Like most sci-fi series, this one has a fair share of CGI effects, so I can only wonder if the transfer looks even better in he high definition of Blu-Ray. If you don't yet have that option, however, the DVD is still more than serviceable.

The Special Features

Okay, back to my minor rant. Since this is a half-season release, there's obviously less ability to produce special features, since the show is still going on. They haven't had the time to sit back and really think on what they could possibly include, and time with all involved parties is sparse. As a result, this release only has a few special features on it, but it's got more than some half-season sets (FlashForward, for example).

There's "Destiny SML," which is a series of chats with most of the main cast, and "Kino Video Diaries," including minor characters like Hunter Riley among the clips; five of these are exclusive to the DVD release. The former is scattered across discs two and three, the latter across all three discs. They're short, and for the most part what you'd expect from things like this. For the newbies, there's also Stargate 101, hosted by Michael Shanks, who reprises his role as the immortal Dr. Daniel Jackson. Alright, that's something, but it doesn't quite satisfy me yet.

The real coup of this set, however, is that there are commentaries on every episode. Every episode. These aren't just commentaries with the one producer they could borrow for a few days. For example, on the three final episodes of the collection ("Time," "Life" and "Justice"), you'll find EP Robert Cooper, director William Waring, and actors David Blue, Ming-Na, Louis Ferreira, Elyse Levesque, Brian J. Smith and Jamil Walker Smith all on at least one of the tracks. The one noticeable absence is Robert Carlyle, but the guy's Scottish so we'll give him a break. He probably had somewhere else to be. Still, the fact that almost everyone was assembled and they managed commentaries on every episode is to be commended, and almost makes up for the lack of other real special features on the set. These days, we're lucky if we get one commentary track, let alone ten.

The Bottom Line

Stargate Universe: 1.0 isn't a bad DVD release. Far from it. However, I can't recommend it simply because I detest the idea of half-season box sets (especially when, in this case, the complete first season is now available). It just makes me cringe to think that fans who bought 1.0 and 1.5 now have to look at a first-season release and think, "Really?!" Especially when the complete season set is only about $6.50 more on Amazon. Save your money and buy The Complete First Season instead.

Bear with me while I bandage my face from the onslaught I just endured...

The Keys to Destiny's Command

Rush awakes from a nightmare of Lucian Alliance torture. He goes to the console room, where he berates Dr. Park before going on a 'walk.' Said walk leads him to a door, where he cautiously enters a code and the door opens to reveal...

The bridge of the ship.

As Rush marvels at his newfound discovery, he's accompanied by an apparition of his dead wife Gloria, who pretty much says what's on Rush's (and the audiences') mind.

"You're not going tell anyone... are you?"

Son of a...

Rush begins to speculate that the Destiny has some greater purpose than what he originally thought. Gloria entertains, and sometimes counters, Rush's thoughts, which drives the 'good' doctor mad. He also wonders that since he can can control the ship now, if he can stop it at any time and access planets that the ship would deem not worthy of their time. He does this and drops the Destiny out of FTL, leaving the other scientists perplexed since they don't have a clue Rush is behind the controls.

When he reaches the console room, Rush declares that he told the Destiny that they were low on food, which is why the ship stopped. They begin to ask why, how, and what, frustrating the doctor and clueing Col. Young in on that something is even more slightly off with Rush than usual. Rush 'explains' that while they can't see a gate signal from their consoles, it only means that the gate isn't working and that they must travel by shuttle. Young orders up a team to go on the mission, which includes Scott, Greer, Volker, Vanessa James, Riley, Eli, and TJ, who Col. Young is very reluctant to let go.

As Rush works on the bridge, he gets another visitor in Franklin, the scientist who disappeared when he sat in the Destiny's Chair Interface. Franklin reveals to Rush that in haste to play Jean-Luc Picard, Rush didn't check out the true schematics of the planet he just sent the crew to, which has volcanic activity and a wacky atmosphere. Rush contacts Scott immediately to tell them to brace for turbulence and that the shuttle should withstand the entry into the planet. As the shuttle enters, the shuttle crew experience predicted turbulence, but quickly loses power and, in one of the most intense sequences of the entire series, crash lands on the planet. WOW!

Stranded

Scott comes to first and everyone else follows suit, but Riley is pinned under a pile of rubble. He can't feel his legs at all. Oh, no...

Scott contacts Young and reports their current status. Young wonders why Rush didn't inform him of the turbulence, while a panicking Rush listens from the bridge.

Back on the planet while trying to rescue Riley from the rubble, TJ discovers that the rubble is actually keeping Riley alive, which she realizes as her hand is covered in a lot of Riley's blood after retracting it from the area of Riley's pinned legs. Outside, Eli, Vanessa James, Volker, and Greer search for the gate to see if they can fix it. They find it... buried in some more rubble. The situation is critical and everyone is looking pretty pitiful...

Back on the Destiny, Rush talks with Gloria about his latest dilemma, which is trying to figure out how to prolong the ship's time before jumping back into FTL. Gloria again sums up Rush's mind process, which is that he won't be able to explain jumping out of FTL later if there isn't a gate present without revealing how he did it. Rush knows that if he doesn't figure out something soon then the ship will be too far out of gate range from the planet the shuttle crew is stranded on. Gloria has a better idea: tell the truth and ask for help. Rush doesn't want to do that, because he doesn't think Col. Young is fit enough to lead the mission. Gloria counters by reminding him that it was really Rush's "negligence" that has the shuttle crew stranded in the first place. Can I say that Gloria rocks?

Scott tells the other about Riley's condition, while TJ gives Riley comfort inside the shuttle. They talk about religion and Riley's near death experiences since they have come to the Destiny. TJ reveals to Riley her encounter with Caine and the alien planet, adding it felt too real to her and makes things bearable. Unbeknownst to the both of them, Dr. Park is listening to the whole conversation.

The group outside blows up the rubble to speed up unearthing the Stargate, while the ships drop out of FTL to the bewilderment of the people aboard. Rush uses the pulsar radiation as a cover to his own manipulations, but Col. Young lets lit slide for now.

The shuttle crew unearths and upstands the gate in time for it to be dialed. The crew comes through and Scott tells Young that it's not looking good for Riley. Young ventures unto the planet to speak to Riley, who begs for his superior to leave him behind. He then asks Young to give him peace, since he is in a lot of pain. Oh hell, naw... Young does what Riley requests and smothers his fallen comrade until he is void of life. It takes a lot out of Young, but he keeps his actions from his crew.

What Should We Do With "Them?"

While all of Rush's craziness was being played out, Young and Camile had to deal with the remainder of the Lucian Alliance on the ship.

Camile talks with Ginn (Julie McNiven) about their reasoning for trying to capture the Destiny, which was to control the power of the Ancients, who legend says they can control time and space. So wait, the Ancients are actually Timelords? Ginn eventually reveals that she didn't even have a choice in joining the Lucian Alliance and pleads asylum for her and the harmless faction of the LA.

In the holding cell, Varro asks Telford (who is considered a traitor) what Young plans to do with them, but even Telford can't answer that question at the moment.

Camile informs Young of her findings and of the IOA's report of an attack from the Lucian Alliance imminent to hit Earth soon. She then suggests to keep some of the Lucian Alliance members and dump the others if need be, but Young is not trying to hear it. Next viable planet they find, the intergalactic pirates will make it their home. Camile is not comfortable with this, but other crew members share Young's sentiment.

After a second talk with IOA, Camile reports to Young that they want the LA to remain on the ship, but Young is not budging. At that moment, an uprising is happening in the holding cell. When Young and Camile reach the area, Young immediately takes down one LA member and proceeds to bash his skull on the floor. It takes Telford to snap Young out of his fit of rage. Later, Varro apologizes to Young for the mishap, but the Colonel gives the Lucian Alliance their walking papers and will drop them off on the next planet. It's a wrap, folks!

Young's stance is short lived, though, as Telford stops him with direct orders from Stargate Command to keep a select few from the Lucian Alliance sect or be relieved of duty, which Young mocks. Telford reminds Young that he is still under SGC and military rank and must follow orders accordingly. Later, Camile and Telford present Varro with the list. A decision must be made.

Conclusion

As the crew mourns the death of Riley, Rush talks with Gloria on the bridge about his role in the crewman's death. He reassures himself with the notion that he is only helping carry out the Ancients plan for the Destiny, which was named that for a reason. Gloria looks at her husband with disdain. Rush then spots something on long range sensors and drops the ship out of FTL. Volker and Brody notices, but before they can wonder why, they see something on the sensors as well. As Rush calls the two to the observation deck, Rush and Eli joins them. They reveal that there is an object in front of them and they are headed straight for it.

From Brody's Distillery (or From Inside The Airlock)

- There is a power struggle here with both Young and Rush gaining God complexes, which are not healthy for either faction of the crew. Now that Rush has found that bridge, all hell will break loose and I will be surprised if both of them come out of the inevitable dogfight that is bound to happen. I pray that they get their act together and fast.

- So Rush thinks the Destiny has a mission, but what could that mission be? How long was it supposed to have gone on and who were they supposed to report back to? A lot to think about there...

- Sgt. Hunter Riley has met his maker and God knows that he will be missed. He was pretty much the resident punching bag, but this time he couldn't withhold the the latest blow to the gut. The silent final voice over by Riley at the end of the episode was a nice touch. No music to hinder the effect, just Riley giving what were his last words. Very nice touch by the producers. And as a final treat tonight, I will leave you with Riley's final Kino confession that you heard/saw tonight, which was the last SGU: Kino episode produced last season called "Not Being There" -

R.I.P. Sgt. Riley. You will be greatly missed...

We got resolutions to last season's finale up front and a possible new game changer on top of that. It's safe to say that life aboard the Destiny will never be the same again... for awhile at least.

Where Am I?

TJ awakes in a cabin, no not a cabin on the ship, but an actual cabin built on land on some off-world planet. After realizing that TJ is fine, we hear the cries of a baby, who we quickly deduce is TJ's. Did the show fast forward a couple of months or something? Not at all.

TJ (and the audience) is stunned when Caine walks into the cabin to greet TJ. You remember Caine right? He's the doctor who decided to stay behind on the planet in the episode "Faith", and almost talked TJ into staying as well. In short, this doesn't look well for TJ...

Climbing From The Cliff

Eli reaches the hatch to let Lt. Scott and Sgt. Greer into the ship, but they aren't there. He informs Dr. Rush and Brody, but the three of them are shocked when Scott radios in, informing them that they avoided the ray blast by hiding under a part of the ship not exposed to it. After Eli gets Greer and Scott on board, Chloe shows up feeling a lot better than the last time we saw her. The bleeding on her wound has stopped and she is walking well. What is that all about?

Col. Young and the other military personnel are spared once Varro (Mike Dopud) informs Danik of what happened in the infirmary. When Varro mentions TJ's accident, Danik brushes it off, which forces Young to proceed to kick his ass. Danik now wants all of the soldiers dead, but Varro declares that they need Young and crew more than ever now to save Kiva. He then suggests getting medics on board through use of the communication stones. Danik vows that if Kiva dies then Team Destiny dies as well.

Operation: Take Back Destiny Pt. 1

Camile and Dr. Volker are two of the people who volunteer their services for the communication stones. Elsewhere, Dr. Rush notices that the countdown clock is working again, meaning that the Destiny miraculously has enough power to make a FTL jump, thanks to Telford beginning the power transfer process before he was shot.

In the infirmary, we get diagnosis on the characters in limbo: Telford is fine, Kiva isn't looking so good, and things aren't looking hot for TJ or the baby with both in danger of succumbing to the gunshot wound. Varro isn't too happy about this. While finding out that they have 30 minutes before entering FTL from Ginn (Julie McNiven), Varro learns that Kiva has died from her wounds. All hell is about to break loose.

Eli and Chloe find Rush and Brody, who inform them that Rush diverted power from the shields to help make the jump. With that being said, Rush wants to use this tactic to level the playing field with the Lucian Alliance. Meanwhile, Danik wants the blood of the Destiny crew to flow, but Varro reminds him of the original plan, which was keep the scientists/doctors and dumping the rest on a planet. Varro also heavily suggests TJ stays behind, too. Robert Knepper's character is introduced in this scene as Simeon. Scott and Greer watch all this from a Kino. They now have a clear idea of what to do next.

Simeon informs Telford of the situation at hand, saying that the incursion is over and that the Destiny is now under Lucian Alliance rule. HA! Simeon wants to know what really went down between Telford and Kiva, but Telford plays his Lucian Alliance card and lies. Varro lets Young know that the Destiny crew will be dumped on a planet. Young reminds Varro that despite the planet being breathable, the Lucian Alliance didn't check for the crew's chances of survival, which in short is like a "death sentence." After the crew is placed on a barren planet, the decide to look for shelter from an approaching storm.

On the ship, Rush and the others are found by some LA goons, but when this happens, the countdown clock stops again. Danik, after nearly killing Ginn for the mishap, orders for Rush to be brought to him and Brody, Eli, and Chloe to be killed.

Operation: Take Back Destiny Pt. 2

Luckily, Greer and Scott get to there in time to stop the impending massacre. Rush radios in to Danik, telling him of the power drain he's been performing and how they are willing to die from the pulsar blasts than let the Lucian Alliance have the Destiny. Danik sends Simeon to retrieve Rush, but Varro tries to stop him. This forces Danik into lunatic mode as he declares that he is the new commander, and if anyone objects then they can be stripped of their privileges as just like Varro.

Scott informs Dr. Rush of the exile of the others on the planet, which Dr. Rush says puts everyone on their side in a great position. The group then decide on meeting up in the Hydroponics room while Scott and Greer retrieve TJ and the other civilians in the infirmary. Scott tells Eli to seal themselves in until they return.

On the planet, Young is shocked to see Varro and some other Lucian Alliance members come through the gate. Turns out that Danik banished them as well. Young ignores Varro at first until he is reminded that Varro is the reason they all didn't have a bullet in their head at the moment.

In the infirmary, Greer and Scott take out a guard and rescue Camile, who is a wreck. They then learn of the fate of TJ and the baby, the latter not making it. They don't have long before some more Lucian Alliance soldiers show up. Scott and Greer hold them off while Camile preps TJ for movement. Back in Hydroponics, Eli doesn't want Rush and Brody to seal the door to the room just yet, because of the others needing to get in. It takes Scott to tell Rush to go ahead with the plan. This why you are a civilian, Eli, and should let the grunts do their work. The other thing? The Lucian Alliance hears this conversation go down. Uh oh...

The Lucian Alliance members realize that Rush wasn't just running off at the mouth about the shields. They find the Hydroponics room and try to get in. When Danik says to blow the door, Telford appears saying that's a bad idea. A power struggle goes down between Rush and Danik through the radios, which reminds me of a Twitter war or something. Danik is not willing to stand down, even when the facts are there that Rush is telling the truth. While Telford tries to talk some sense into Danik, the brute gets fed up and aims to kill Telford. This is when Ginn shoots the bastard to death, ending the incursion and complying to the Destiny's demands.

TJ's Other Worldly Experience

As TJ settles in her cabin with Caine, he fills her on on how the aliens tracked the Destiny and noticed that TJ was in danger, transporting her there with them. She asks Caine questions on how did the group find a slew of cabins when none appeared when they scanned the planet, how did she get there and most importantly, why. All the answers Caine give are deflected or don't add up.

After another couple enters and looks after TJ's baby, Caine takes TJ to see a phenomena in the sky, telling TJ thanks for sacrificing her life with them so that they could stay behind. He then says that the aliens knew that, which was why they decided to bring TJ's daughter there..., but TJ has to go back. What?!

TJ runs to get her daughter, who she names Carmen. The baby is safe, but we all know that is not really true. Caine appears one last time to tell TJ that the people on the Destiny will not understand them, because they see something completely different than they do. Caine's last speech is a bit confusing to me, because I'm trying to see how it fits in the overall narrative. He says that in the outer reaches of space, who you are and what you believe is everything and TJ must decide if that's a blessing or a curse. Wow...

TJ awakes in the infirmary to Camile telling her that she hasn't left the ship and that TJ lost the baby.

New Year, New Possibilities

Greer and Scott greet their banished comrades and inform Col. Young of TJ's condition. The Lucian Alliance are put in a holding room for the time being. Chloe realizes that not only did her wound stop bleeding, but it's almost completely healed. Hmmm... The ship comes out of FTL, which puzzle Volker, because it was a short jump. Brody does a scan to see if they are still in danger of the pulsar blasts, but he reports that their not.

TJ awakes and makes her way to the observation deck and witnesses the same phenomena that Caine showed her in her dream. Or was it a dream?

From Brody's Distillery (or From Inside The Airlock)

- Wow, what a premiere huh? SGU kept the action on high, while also establishing a new scenario for the people on the Destiny. Now with the Lucian Alliance on board, can we see some sort of merge happening ala Starfleet and Marquis members from Star Trek: Voyager?

- What in God's name was TJ's subplot about? I initially thought that the people left behind were dead since TJ's daughter was the one chosen to stay over TJ. If this is the case, then what are we supposed to take from Caine's final words and the phenomena in the sky TJ witnessed both in reality and her dream? Is there some overall connection? And could the aliens in question actually be the Ancients?

What did you guys think?

Stargate Universe Season 2 Trailer - Epic Win

Alright, here you go SGU fans: The all new trailer for season 2 of Stargate Universe. If you're not excited for this season of SGU, you should be. We've seen the first two episodes of Stargate Universe and they are every bit as intense as season one, which if you didn't know was some of the best science fiction on television. Ever. We'll be publishing a full review of the SGU pilot, which airs Tuesday, September 28th on Syfy channel, this week. In the meantime lets discuss this trailer a bit.

First let me tease season 2 slightly, of the first two episodes both contained game changers. I couldn't figure out how they would follow this up, but I'm as intrigued as ever. That said, this trailer offers a glimpse into the deeper future of season 2 and I can already tell that game changers are the theme for SGU this year. If you pay attention, close attention, you'll see some things going on that suggest major changes to several characters and some updated material on past story-lines. The power struggle aboard Destiny is going to gain a few new dimensions, and it looks like some characters are going to go through some - wink, wink - major changes.

You say you're not a Stargate Universe fan? Good news, this trailer gives you a mini-recap of SGU's first season - my prediction: if you aren't watching SGU, and science fiction and high drama is your thing, you'll be rushing out to rent season one of SGU after getting a taste of what went down; or, you could always scoot over to Syfy.com and watch a few episodes online. Enough from me, time to let SGU do the talking:

At the end of the inaugural season of Stargate Universe, the stakes were raised when the Lucian Alliance bombarded the Destiny, taking most of the crew hostage and leaving others to fend for themselves against a malfunctioning ship. Unlike it's predecessors, SGU was not only controversial in its premise, but in some of the behind the scenes drama as well. Spectators were worried that accusations of misogynic attitudes and ignorance from the writers would plague the new series, but SGU proved to defy the odds, making itself appointment sci-fi TV on Friday nights.

Now, SGU faces a new challenge, which is a new night in the middle of the week. Can it hold up? We here at TVOvermind thinks it will excel.

What You Should Know

Live Together, or Die Alone... - The LOST mantra applies here on the desolate ship that is the Destiny, a exploration/Stargate seeding ship that was left behind by the Ancients after their ascension. The civilians and military personnel of the Icarus Base project (formed to discover the purpose of the ninth chevron on the Stargate) are transported there after an attack by the Lucian Alliance forces the crew to dial the gate and escape death. However, this move transports them billions of light years from home. With emotions high and personal agendas clashing, the new crew of the Destiny had their highs and lows, but finally coming to an understanding that to survive they must become a unified civilization or else...

Alien Encounters - The Destiny is attacked by an alien race who has been following them since their arrival on the Destiny. Chloe was kidnapped during the attack and later rescued by Dr. Rush, who was picked up by the aliens after Col. Young left him on a planet. These two are still fearing the return of the aliens, but keep said fears to themselves, which is not good.

Pitter Patter of Drama - Colonel Everett Young finds out that he has a baby on the way with SGC medic Lt. Tamara 'TJ' Johansen, who finally accepted that she must raise the child on the ship, something that she really didn't want to do. The love triangle that is Eli-Chloe-Lt. Scott was at a stand still... to an extent. Tensions are still a little fresh aboard the ship due to a coup formed by Camile Wray and Dr. Nicholas Rush. But all this and more is about to change due to...

The Incursion - After finding out that Colonel David Telford (Lou Diamond Phillips) was a Lucian Alliance spy, the crew of the Destiny was invaded by the LA, who were gung-ho on taking the ship as their own and dumping the crew of the Destiny on a planet somewhere. Several problems arose due to this, which included the ship being stuck in dead space and being blasted by radiation rays every so often, which was damaging the ship's shields with each hit. Another problem included a power struggle between the two factions that left several Destiny crew members dead. In the end, Telford took on the Lucian Alliance leader Kiva and the two shot each other, their fates unknown; Tamara was shot in a shoot out, her baby's life in danger; Lt. Scott and Sgt. Greer were left outside the ship while another radiation blast is about to happen; and with Kiva's life in peril, her second in command forces all military personnel of the Destiny into a room to be executed. Cliffhangers abound...

Show Patrol's Curt Wagner exclusively broke news that Victor Garber (Alias, Eli Stone), Kathleen Quinlan ("Event Horizon", "Apollo 13") and French Stewart (3rd Rock From The Sun, "Inspector Gadget 2") will be boarding the Destiny this fall for SGU's sophomore season.

Garber's role will be that of Ambassador Ovirda of the planet Langara, which was last seen in the Stargate SG-1 episode "Counterstrike" where it was reported that it fallen under Ori rule. How this planet and Ovirda will factor into the Destiny's trek will be interesting, due to the Destiny being several light years from the Milky Way. It is also good to note that Langaria is also the home world of Jonas Quinn (Corin Nemic), a former SG-1 member.

Ms. Quinlan will be portraying Senator Michaels, who replaced the late Senator Armstrong as the new head of the off-world spending committee. Wonder if she will be a villain or an ally, since the subject of money is on the line.

Mr. Stewart will be the new head of research at Stargate Command, Dr. Andrew Covel, who will most likely clash with one of the other figure heads at SGC. French Stewart was also in the original Stargate film as Technical Sergeant Louis Terretti, who was later portrayed by Brent Strait in SG-1's first season.

Also on the horizon to appear on the Destiny is none other than Robert Knepper (Prison Break, Heroes), who is technically already aboard the ship since he is a member of the Lucian Alliance group that boarded the ship at the end of last season. Julie McNiven (Mad Men, Supernatural) will also be a Lucian Alliance member. Both characters are slated to have multi-episode arcs, making me wonder how long the Lucian Alliance will occupy the Destiny once the incursion is over?

SyFy released a press release touting the return of two Stargate Atlantis alums, David Hewlett (Dr. Rodney McKay) and Robert Picardo (Richard Woosley), marking the two characters first appearance on SGU.

After seeing the first two episodes of Season Two (review coming up soon), I can say that SGU will hit the ball running this season to the point you will need a breathe aspirator when it's all said and done. The only 'set back' is that SGU is now on Tuesdays instead of Fridays this year, totally killing my weekend TV enjoyment. Oh well! As long as SGU is still on TV, we here at TVO will surely follow it wherever it goes.

Stargate Universe (SGU) second season premiere will air September 28 at 9/8c on SyFy.

Are you guys excited for the new season?!

If anyone thinks that SGU sucks after last night's episode, then I really don't know what to say. I feel bad for those who tuned out, but at the same time I can't hold anything against them. I do know one thing though: I officially hate the Lucian Alliance...

In Good Faith...

Each faction prepares for the medical supply exchange, but the crew of the Destiny has a plan. What that said plan is? I don't know, but it involves Greer being a part of the exchange in civilian clothing and in a red shirt mind you. Not cool.

When they make the exchange, Col. Young introduces Greer as another medic. Kiva makes TJ check the supplies to see if the Lucian Alliance actually needs them for their services. After this goes down, the ship's power goes out again and Kiva thinks that Col. Young and crew are at fault, especially after Greer raises his gun declaring that he has the shot and TJ in the middle of both camps. Col. Young commands for TJ to come towards him, but Kiva threatens to kill her where TJ stands if one step is made in the wrong direction. Kiva also reveals that she has her men on standby to kill anyone if she is killed or wounded in any way. In the end, Kiva gets the upper hand and they take the supplies and TJ and go their way, while Col. Young licks his wounds from that major screw up. So much for taking the ship back...

When Kiva's camp returns to the gate room, she is so pissed that she kills the soldier who was picked out with Riley and TJ as if the guy was a bag of garbage. The woman didn't even bat an eye as she slayed this guy, who was named Rivers, and I had to replay the incident a couple of times, because it was just that quick and ridiculous. Kiva is one bad bitch... Anyway, Telford is pissed at Kiva's callous behavior, but gets shut up by the gunslinging diva. Kiva then orders for TJ to tell Col. Young what happened.

Meanwhile, Eli and Chloe rest from their trip back from unknown parts of the ship. Chloe cuddles under Eli, who is highly 'bothered' by this and can't think straight while the two discuss what Col. Young will do with the prisoners. Boy, if they only knew what as going down on the other part of the ship.

Col. Young makes his way back to the control room and screams for the scientists to fix whatever it is that's wrong with the ship. When they balk at his reaction, he explains that Rivers has been killed, which Rush replies nonchalantly,"Well, it was going to be someone." Oh. Hell.

Young sees red and lunges for Rush's throat, but Rush continues, asking Young would he had rather it had been Eli, Chloe, or TJ that was shot. Wow, so grunts are expendable at all costs? Hmmm... In the infirmary, TJ meets Koz, a Lucian Alliance member sent to assist her in operating on Varro (Mike Dopud).

Plan C aka Camile Wray

Camile Wray thinks that's its best to turn over the ship to the Lucian Alliance to save the other hostages, but Young tells her that's a bad idea, because if that happens then Kiva would still kill everyone who is no use to her, which is more than half of the survivors. Kiva suddenly contacts the Colonel through radio, but asks to speak with Camile Wray. It seems that she trusts Camile more now since Young has screwed up royally several times (in Kiva's eyes), so Kiva and Camile come to an agreement on the 4-for-4 prisoner exchange with food and water included. Camile accepts the terms. God help them (us) all... After the deal is made, Kiva plans to take supplies with then in the next wave, which Telford throws an "if" in to that scenario. The ship then goes haywire again and sends every one in a tizzy.

In the control room, Young (and the audience) finds out what's causing the outages. Turns out that a binary neutron star is the culprit behind the Destiny's latest woes and each burst is damaging the shields, which can go out and every one on board will be exposed to the rays. Thank the Lucian Alliance for this mishap for dialing the gate while the Destiny was trying to pass the star. The Destiny can't leave cause the FTL drives have been compromised, which the scientists are working on. Did you get all that info? Good, because bottom line is that if they don't get to booking, they are literally toast. Camile relays the new information to Kiva, who decides to switch the prisoners and food first, before delving into solutions, because that's all that matters when two hours from now they will all be incinerated ashes. I digress...

Telford goes to check on TJ to see what the hold up is before Kiva snaps and kills TJ. He fills the medic in on the situation, but TJ thinks that Kiva won't let Young and Rush solve the problem. Telford promises that he will try to get Kiva to see reasoning. Back in the mess hall, grunts and civilians pack food for the exchange and Camile reports to Lt. Scott that everything is in place for the exchange to go down. He tries to get her to wear a flack vest, but she declines stating that she wants to display trust to the other camp. Your loss, Camile...

TJ reports to Kiva that she has done all she could with Varro and wants to work on the other wounded, namely the prisoners.

The exchange takes place, but Camile is disappointed to see the prisoners Kiva selected were only two civilians and a grunt. When Camile voices her dissatisfaction, Kiva has her men drag the dead body of Rivers in to make four. Bitch is cold... Camile asks for TJ, but Kiva says that's not going to happen and for them to find a solution on the neutron star situation. After Kiva's camp leaves, Scott asks where the hell is Chloe and Eli, but Camile relays Kiva's explanation of them only having two civilians from the start. Good job, Camile! RMFE...

The Situation is Critical and Everyone is Looking Pitiful...

Speaking of the lost friends, Eli and Chloe are almost sucked out the ship after Eli opens a door to an exposed area of the ship. Meanwhile, Scott talks with Greer about his concern of Chloe and Eli being unaccounted for on the ship, but Greer tells Scott that he can't let that distract him from the mission at hand and to trust Col. Young. Scott marvels at Greer's resolve and asks his comrade how does he do it. Greer simply tells Scott he needs to learn to get like him, which in layman's terms means to grow a pair. Greer kicks ass... When he's not a lunatic, that is. Also, Varro has woken up and tries to make peace with TJ, but obviously didn't get the memo about class and how you should talk to people. TJ remains stoic, but drips signs of "stop talking to me and shut the hell up" in her word usage.

Eli and Chloe sit and talks about how Chloe doesn't have friends... (I'm sorry. This was becoming the least interesting story arc at hand, but then the juicy bits start to fall). Eli starts to get uncomfortable when Chloe says that she didn't know the true meaning of a friend until she met Eli. Clearly the word "friend" is gutting Eli like a ginsu knife. The not so surprising thing is that Chloe knows this as she tells Eli that she knows about his feelings towards her, because of Eli's hurt reaction when she regulates him as a friend. Wow... Eli takes it like a champ, though, but notices that they are near a console and can reach the others. So at least some ground has broken in that storyline...

In the control room, the four scientists figure out that by shielding only the side of the ship facing the star, that can buy them time to fix the FTL drive. The only problem is that to do that, someone must take a walk in space and fix it on the outside of the ship. Enter Greer and Scott for the spacewalk. But there is another problem, which can be solved with help from the enemy. See the closest spot (which is where the blue aliens took Chloe) to reach the console on the side of the ship is under Lucian territory. Camile lays the situation out for Kiva and asks the woman for access to that spot, but Kiva wants full control of the ship in order to do so. I'm sick of this woman...

Sacrifices

Telford contacts Young with the secret walkie talkie he got during last week's episode. He tells Young to transfer control of the ship over to Kiva and surrender everyone except Rush and Brody, who need to run to the auxiliary control room so Telford can restore control back to Rush when he gets the chance. Dr. Rush mentions giving the Lucian Alliance control and making them think they have it before pulling the rug from under them. Telford reponds that they will take all the prisoners to one room, which can give Rush the clearance to vent the air out of the compartments containing Lucian Alliance goons. Seems like a good plan, right? But will these surrounding compartments contain TJ, Eli, and Chloe?

Col. Young then surrenders control of the ship, which is a painful scene to watch. Before Brody and Dr. Rush run off, they receive a message from Eli of their whereabouts. Brody messages them back to stay put. The change over happens and all crew members of the Destiny are taken to the common room except Camile, Young, Greer, and Scott. In the infirmary, Varro is still running his mouth, saying that the ship wasn't theirs to begin with. Oh and that's supposed to make it all better? RME!!!! He asks TJ for a truce, but she again give him a "bitch, please" look.

Both groups of leaders send Greer and Scott on their spacewalk. Telford monitors a goon who is controlling the shields to let the spacewalkers through. He then slips out and finds a power relay and shoots it (was that a good idea?) to divert attention to the console. The goon notices something wrong on the screen and calls Kiva, who leaves to investigate. Telford returns to the goon and the console and orders the goon to go fix the problem. When the goon leaves, Telford starts to send control back to Dr. Rush. In the midst of doing this, Telford hears someone coming and it's Kiva. Both of them raises there guns and there is a gun shot heard.

On the hull of the ship, Greer and Scott work on fixing the problem, thinking everything is hunky dory. They only reach one problem, but they fix it on their own, but on the down side it takes away precious time for them, leaving them with 14 minutes till the next burst of rays hits the ship. Back in the second control room, Rush and Brody realize that the transfer has stopped. In the gate room, the goon returns with more goons and they both find Kiva (still breathing, but unconscious) and Telford (?) shot. The goons automatically think that they have been infiltrated by Young's men and instantly start taking extreme measures, which goes to show that they have no common sense or tactical training whatsoever. Scott and Greer try to get back in the Destiny, but the Lucian Alliance won't answer their call. Dr. Rush radios the two soldiers and tells them of another way to enter the ship through an airlock that's in their control, but the two soldiers might not make it in time. Dr. Rush then remembers Eli is at a console and can access it from there. Ah, now I see the point of Eli and Chloe being on the other half of the ship. He sends the orders to Eli, who leaves Chloe alone in a secure area and kisses her before taking off to help his friends.

In the infirmary, the goons bring Kiva in and Varro starts to ask questions. In the common room, the Big, Bald Bastard, who decides to take command sense Kiva's out the picture now, has the civilians separated from the military group and transferred to another room. Big Bald Bastard declares to Varros that he is about to end this once and for all and orders for Varros to bring all the injured soldiers to him. Back in the infirmary, TJ hears this and declares that they can forget her working on Kiva if Varros goes through with that order. One goon prompts another soldier and a fight and shootout takes place and some of the goons are taken out, but Varros kills the soldier and surveys the damages. TJ lies in the middle of it all, bloody. NOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!

Eli runs through the corridors, while Greer and Scott run on the hull of the ship to the rendezvous point. Chloe passes out for what looks like could be the last time, Camile and the civilians are herded into an unknown part of the ship, and the last frame we see is the Lucian Alliance preparing all military personnel for a mass killing and Young standing tall. The ship flickers again, meaning the burst has happened. But before the lights dim out, Young stares into the sky, wondering who will survive and what will be left of them...

Credits.

HOLY FRAKKING SH*T!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Inside the Airlock

- Yes, I am glad to be in the airlock now to let Greer and Scott in, just in case Eli doesn't make it. But even if that wasn't the case...

- I hate the Lucian Alliance. They are worse than any aliens I've seen on a scifi show and they have no common sense whatsoever. Seriously. Who would knowingly strand themselves on a ship they have no idea about way across the universe from the rest of their kind? And then kill most of the people who at least have more knowledge on the situation at hand than they do? Their whole existence is a joke, or at least this group of LA goons are. It just doesn't add up to me. I need to know why they need the Destiny and why would they go through the lengths that they have to gain this ship. What do they know that Dr. Rush, Young, and the others don't? And Varro's whole "it wasn't your ship to begin with" line? Dude, I seriously wanted to punch my TV screen in. Seriously. Their galatic-boneheads. Period. Cannot wait to see them all get sucked out the frakking airlock.

- Am I the only one who screamed when that soldier attacked that Lucian goon in the infirmary? I know most of you probably predicted (and predicted right) that TJ's unborn child would be in danger, but I never thought someone would callously put her in danger the way they did last night. I seriously hate that after the baby shower and the sacrifice that TJ gave to keep it, that we will not hear the pitter patter of feet running through the Destiny. Frak the Lucian Alliance.

- Chloe finally acknowledged Eli's love for her. But will it matter in the end? I can see her being torn next season between the two guys, but just as long as they keep it Twilight-lite. But seriously, if Chloe lunges herself back to Scott then I will be heavily pissed.

- The events of 'Subversion' through 'Incursion Pt. 1 and Pt. 2' will weigh heavily on Col. Young. His face at the of the episode spoke volumes. The man is officially crushed, people. May God Have Mercy on his soul.

I will leave it at that, because I plan on giving a full review of SGU's first season. What do you guys expect for the upcoming season, which is in October? OCTOBER, mind you!!!!! What are we going to do till then?!?!?! Sound off below!

See you in the fall! And I Would Like To Congratulate The Cast and Crew of SGU For A Phenomenal First Season!

He will be greatly missed...

Now onto the recap.

Man, what an episode...

The first installment in the most anticipated two parter arrived to us last Friday (yes, it's Tuesday. Read above.) and didn't hold back the punches. Lives are at stake, battle lines are drawn, and an unanticipated variable has screwed up each factions' plans, but that's not the scary part. That dubious honor goes to Col. Young not knowing what the hell to do. Alas, I am getting ahead of myself...

No Air...

We pick up where we left off last week, with Col. Young threatening to kill Col. Telford by shutting off the air in Telford's holding cell. Co. Young gives the order despite Camile and Lt. Scott's cries of protest. Telford gives a few death throes and finally falls dead. OMG!!!!! But before Camile and Scott damn Young for his actions, the Col. looks at his watch for a couple of seconds and radios Brody to cut the air back on. Col. Young then rushes in and resuscitates Telford, who after refusing to reveal intel, freely gives Young the information they were seeking: The Lucian Alliance is coming via the Startgate. Okay, what just happened here?

Cue the LOST trombones...

Ante UP!!!

While Col. Young gives the ship instructions on the incoming incursion by the Lucian Alliance via intercom, the crew prepares for battle. The civilians are shuttled off into one area and the grunts suit up, lock up, and post up at their designated spots. Meanwhile, in our galaxy, SGC sends Amanda Carter and the George Hammond Camile questions Young's sudden trust in Telford's intel, but Young reveals that he doesn't trust Telford fully. Lt. Scott makes his feelings known to Col. Young about being left out of the plan to kill and then revive Telford to bypass the Goa'uld brainwashing technology. Oh... so THAT'S what happened! Anyway, Young pretty much tells Scott to shove it cause he doesn't have time to tend to hurt feelings.

Young then visits Telford in the infirmary where they make up and Telford thanks Col. Young for saving him from the brainwashing tech. I still don't like the S.O.B., but if Telford feels sorry and is ready to sacrifice himself to make amends then I will give him a get out of jail free card. After this exchange, Young asks for TJ to stay in the infirmary where it will be safe, but TJ knows its more than that protests the request. When Young reveals his plans for the Lucian Alliance once they cross the gate, TJ is shocked and says that she can't give him the forgiveness she is asking for.

On the other side of the universe, the Lucian Alliance prepares for the incursion. Kiva has Dr. Rush return to work after hurting him for some reason I believe. Can someone tell me what that was about? Thanks. While the LA prepares to attack, the George Hammond arrives and begin their own attack after learning that they can't beam Rush from the surface. Shiva orders for the gate to be dialed, but Rush warns her of the implications since they aren't ready, which means the planet will blow up.

Back on the Destiny, Chloe finds Eli in his quarters watching Dr. Jackson's video on the Lucian Alliance. The ship jumps out of FTL, which signals the crew that the incursion is about to go down. Everyone takes their places as the Lucian Alliance starts being hurled out the gate into the locked and sealed gate room. The Colonel is ready to initiate his plan of attack: which is draining the air out of the room, but the LA arrive with Telford/Dr. Rush and screws that plan all to high hell. Damn.

Plan B: "The Hard Way"

As soon as Col. Young is met with the new variable placed in front of him, he calls for all military personnel to prepare to take hostages. Meanwhile in the infirmary, TJ discovers that Dr. Rush is back in his own body due to the link being cut when Telford's body entered through the gate.

Back on the planet, Kiva realizes that the planet is about to go nuclear and she and some more goons enter the gate. On the George Hammond, Colonel Samantha Carter has to make the painful decision to leave behind some of her men to escape the impending explosion of the planet.

In the gate room, Kiva watches as few of her soldiers die and immediately aims to kill Dr. Rush, but Telford reveals that it is him instead. Col. Young comes on the intercom to tell them that they are surrounded and will have the air sucked out of the room. Kiva remarks that Col. Young should've had done that already and has her men blast their way out the room. In the chaos, Riley's head get grazed by a bullet; Chloe and Eli decide that this is the perfect time to leave Eli's quarters and run for cover, which later results to Chloe getting shot in the leg; and Dr. Rush runs off from the infirmary to protect the ship, making TJ run after him and getting captured in the process. While Eli tries to tend to Chloe, who has fainted, Kiva makes a call to Col. Young telling him to shove his demands up his ass cause she got hostages, one of them being TJ.

So much for the hard way, eh?

Now What?

Colonel Carter reports to General O'Neill about the damage, casualties and the status of their mission, but General O'Neill is still awaiting word from the Destiny.

Back on the Destiny, Col. Young, Dr. Rush, and Drs, Perry, Volker and Brody all take time to make their next tactical move, but Dr. Rush wonders why didn't the Colonel go with the original plan in the first place, especially since the link was severed. Of course, Col. Young brushes this one under the rug. Scott comes to report that the head count of missing/POW crew members includes TJ, Riley, Eli, and Chloe.

Eli tries to comfort Chloe who is steadily growing weak due to the loss of blood. Eli then proposes to help Chloe walk back to the everyone else, clearly having too much faith in the military stopping the Lucian Alliance and not enough common sense.

Kiva contacts Col. Young to make a deal, but end up making threats. Enter Camile Wray, who feels that she is the right person for the job. Kill me now. Camile comes up with a fair prisoner exchange idea, which Young backs, but Dr. Rush is visibly not cool with. Back in the gate room, Kiva selects an unknown soldier, TJ, and Riley for an execution demonstration. When Kiva is about to take out TJ, Col. Telford stops her by saying that the act would do nothing but kill them all instantly. He gives her a plan of attack and she lets him have six men to go with him, but promises bloodshed (starting with TJ) if anything goes wrong. When Telford reveals that TJ is the only medic that either faction has, Camile's voice comes onto the walkie talkie. What does this bitch want?

Camile proposes to Kiva a 4 prisoner exchange to give the Lucian Alliance an "advantage", which Kiva claims that she will think about. Back in the control room, Rush and Young get into it over the situation, forcing Camile to shout for them to stop. Dr. Rush thinks it's frivolous for Col. Young to put all his faith into a traitor, who is the reason they are in the predicament now, but Col. Young vows to rescue each and every hostage and that Telford has a plan.

Another Variable, Another Problem

Eli walks Chloe to the observation deck to show her the view (why? I don't know) when the two realize that they are breathing recycled air. Eli lifts Chloe up to take her to their destination. Meanwhile, Kiva hauls TJ to tend to one of her fallen men, but TJ declares the guy badly wounded.

Col. Young takes a trip back to report to General O'Neill, who is pissed at Col. Young's inept ability to commandeer the situation. Young counters that he didn't want to lose any men, but O'Neill informs him of Carter losing two of her good men, which was the right thing to do. Of course, I balk at this, but I regain myself long enough to watch the rest of the scene. O'Neill tells Young to either man up or ship out. How that is possible for someone to change guard in the middle of an incursion is beyond me... To an extent.

Col. Telford takes some soldiers with him to get to the control room. Some of the areas they are walking through is exposed to space, but are guarded by ship's shields. Col. Young feels as if this is Telford's signal due to a console being activated in the area by Telford that details the whereabouts of Kiva's men. Col. Young takes Greer, Scott, and more grunts to ambush the LA group. Meanwhile, Dr. Rush realizes that they still haven't jumped back into FTL since the countdown clock isn't running. Foreshadowing, anyone?

When Telford and the goons reach the door, it won't open. One of the goons offers to open the door, despite Young and gang waiting to blow them all to kingdom come. But the grunts got to save their bullets for later due to the exposed part of the ship incinerating the goon as soon as he tries to pry open the door. The other goons run, but the door opens with a shocked Telford and an equally shocked Young staring at the smoldering remains. Each of them asks if the other did the deed, but they are just as perplexed as we are. Young tells his group to stand down and hands Telford a radio. The entire ship then goes wacky in terms of lights and system malfunctions. Just another day on the Destiny folks...

Cliffhanger Part Deux

Eli and Chloe still make their way to the other part of the ship, still thinking that the incursion is over. Well, Eli does at least. Chloe continues to whine, but Eli promises that he will take care of her. This is your time to shine, Eli. Don't f*ck it up...

Kiva is pissed and thinks that her incinerated soldier and the system malfunctions are all Young and Rush's fault, but Telford declares that the other faction is innocent. While Dr. Rush tries to figure out the problem, Kiva contacts Young for him to speak with TJ, who is forced to ask for medical supplies to save one of Kiva's men. Dr. Rush has had it and doesn't think that they should be giving Kiva any leeway and needs to be taken out immediately, which Young surprisingly agrees with. Young declares that they will take back the Destiny and we are hit with the producer credits afterwards.

Ready for Friday?

From the Airlock of the Destiny...

- Yep, I'm back in the airlock due to the incursion. But I will hold out all my thoughts until tomorrow's finale so check back then for my insight on the craziness at hand.

See you tomorrow night. I promise.

SyFy pulled a fast one on us and preempted the first part of the SGU season finale till next week. While most people are getting over their anger by rewatching the entire first season up to the finale (which is NOT a bad idea, IMHO), I have decided to finally recap the two new Kino webisodes to quench your (and my) thirst of SGU dehydration. Let's begin with Webisode #25 "Drop The 'Sirs'."

Webisode #25: Drop The 'Sirs'

This webisode might calm the (logic) nerves of a lot of fans since it deals with the glaringly missing reactions from Greer and Scott after they reunited on the Destiny when they got separated on the planet. A lot of people voiced their opinions on how Greer didn't seem at all perturbed when Chloe, Scott, and Eli returned, but was previously bothered by the separation at the end of "Lost". We all know that when the impromptu reunion happened that the Destiny was in the middle of a crisis, putting dramatic character study on the back burner for later. Well, the pot has cooked and it's ready to be served.

Scott finds Greer in the mess hall where he tries to engage in friendly banter with his comrade, asking the Sgt. to 'drop the sirs'. Greer still keeps it formal with "Lt." The Kino skips into Scott saying he wants to clear the air with Greer on the planet situation, but Greer says that isn't necessary, because it was Scott's duty to protect Chloe and Eli. Scott continues to explain himself, but Greer claims that if Scott had of tried to rescue him, even if it was just the two of them, it would've been stupid. Greer then goes on to explain that Scott's only bond he needs to remember is to carry out his orders and lead, which pretty much entails not letting feelings get in the way and not having any doubt in his decisions. Greer then closes his speech with that he will always follow orders without a hitch and that Scott shouldn't worry about trying to make things right, because Greer never lost any sleep over it. After the two have a chuckle, Scott asks Greer how many officers has he trained and Greer responds "Only the ones that I liked." Hm.

Webisode 26: Like A Hug

In this particular webisode, an incident from the episode "Sabotage' was touched on, which was when TJ walked in on Rush and Dr. Perry/Camile, an issue that people were up in arms about during the episode's production.

The Kino finds TJ talking with Dr. Park about walking in on Dr. Rush and Dr. Perry embracing intimately. Dr. Park reminds TJ that Camile signed over her body in the waiver, but TJ still wonders if she should tell Camile. Dr. Park then offers that maybe TJ should confront Dr. Rush and have him tell Camile instead. TJ agrees. Then the two women begin gossiping about Dr. Rush actually having a tender side, which they start to find more intriguing since they don't see what the hell Dr. Perry sees in him.

So what did you guys think of the webisodes? Did they solve some mysteries for you? Ease some concerns? Speak out below!

And don't forget that SGU returns tonight with part one of it's first season finale, "Incursion", on SyFy!
