The SyFy network has chosen to cancel Stargate Universe. Deadline.com is now reporting that the show will not be renewed for a third season. Stargate Universe is the last Stargate spin-off currently on television, so unless they choose to create a new show in this particular universe, the franchise might be retired. Despite the cancellation, SyFy will be airing the remaining 10 episodes of SGU's second season in the spring.
SyFy also recently canceled Caprica, the prequel for Battlestar Galactica. Warehouse 13, Eureka and Haven will all be returning next year and will be joined by the new series Being Human, Alphas and Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome
Awesome. Now bring back Stargate Atlantis. SGU was rubbish!

Come on guys, seriously! Stargate Universe is a fantastic show. I'm not sure what the hell is going on over at Syfy but I'm about ready to just stop watching. First they cancel Stargate Atlantis, which was an excellent Stargate franchise. Then they pull Emilie Ullerup from Sanctuary, a really bad move (by the way, none of the real sci-fi fans out there have forgiven Syfy for that. A total jack move). Now they're cancelling Stargate Universe? Did Syfy get secretly purchased by Fox or ABC when I wasn't looking? I thought those two were the only moron channels who didn't recognize a good thing when they had it. All shows fall low sometimes and the technology that drives users to watch shows are changing making the watched by numbers game obsolete. This type of poor decision making is going to cause people to no longer invest time in your new up and coming shows, due to the fear that they'll get invested in it…and then it will get cancelled half way through. Hey try this, pick up a really good book, read it about three quarters of the way through, then just sit it down and never read the rest. That's the type of feeling that the viewers have when crap like this constantly occurs. Just my two cents.
To be fair, one of the reasons Emilie Ullerup left Sanctuary was because she had a tumor on her spine removed. But I agree, I wish networks would let shows tie up loose ends before canceling them.

Can't say I'm that disappointed, because I kept waiting for them to realize that "most" of the fans didn't care for all the soap-opera'ish drawn-out-angst, with only a few decent shows here and there. I hope another version of SG comes along soon, with completely different writers that won't take the new series "in a different direction" like SGU's writers did – sorry to all those who enjoy drawn-out-angst, but ugh! I could handle a 50/50 compromise though ^_^
I'm happy for Warehouse 13 and Eureka, but although I kind-of enjoy Haven, I figured it wouldn't make a second season. I guess it grew on people.

but honestly i am really disappointed about the cancellation of the show. i think sgu has great potential and i had a feeling that the show was going to live up to it.
it is getting better every week and cancelling the show because of some obsolete number/ranking system also means cancelling an entire era…maybe forever.

Couldn't agree more! The moved SGU from a Friday to a tuesday and then a Monday night, of course that makes the number of viewers go down. Besides they have to take into account that a lot of people watch this show on the internet. SGU doesn't air in my country so I have to go look it up on youtube. Another little issue that makes me furious is that they have canceled SGU and replaced it with Non-Science fiction. They are the damn SciFi channel, that means theyre supposed to have SCIFI not wrestling and cooking shows?!

So i don't get it Syfy can pick up Merlin after Nbc cancels it but can't keep there on show going. I think they should finish out shows even if a 100 mil are not watching especially this one. Very pissed. After being a huge scify fan for many years I am DONE with scify. Cancelling SGU and Caprica the last pure science fiction series out there shows me that Scifi is going in a direction of the lame and the stupid. Another example of dumbing down america. The shows they are keeping and the new ones are not have as good even though I am a fan of Sanctuary and Warehouse 13, but those shows are strictly fantasy and not science fiction. i guess if I want my Science Fiction fix I will have to be content watching Firefly reruns on the Science Channel. I luved SGU, excellent series, full of drama, comedy and just a freakin interesting storyline. Rush is gangster! This reminds me of when the cut Firefly…. Very disappointed with the suits behind the decision, if you want to keep making money make a decision that makes sense in the long run and keep a show with a devoted fan base. If it wasn't for Warehouse 13 and Eureka, this channel might as well not exist for me. I don't know WHAT U SGU fans r talking about! This show, for a lack of a better word "SUCKED"! Most of U who 'kinda' like this show, are NOT previous STARGATE FANS. This show is dark (the actual screen is dark). It is a non-stop 'DRAMA', that isn't even good enough for 12-3 soap opera programming.
STARGATE is for STAREGATE FANS, not DRAMA FANS. That's the way the show went with thier story, that's the way the show went. IT DIDNT WORK. Everybody has their own taste…this one hurt the palate. Bring the show back, but bring the actual "SHOW" back. Not a S-L-O-WWWW, fall asleep during the show.

Everybody who is a true STARGATE fan, knows that SG1, and SGA were cut too short. They could of went a long way with how they were 'blending' the two shows together. I think they did that because people were upset to see the first series end.
SGA worked because it was basically the same thing as SG1 but with different characters. IF IT AINT BROKE, DONT FIX IT. Well, with SGU…they BROKE IT.
That's a bit of a juvenile criticism, isn't it? SGU did for the franchise what BSG did for the old BSG. It brought it into possible reality with genuine characters rather than mindless cookie cutter episodes. I enjoyed both SG1 and SGA, but every episode was very similar. "Introduction, followed by developed problem, followed by a sense of desparation, followed by last minute victory" every time. SGU was a story, which other franchises did kind of poorly.
Despite his lack of grammar skill and the like, it's actually you sitting here and being juvenile. The indolent, childish view of "I'm smarter than you" is the underlying foundation of EVERY argument made by the fan(atics) of the abysmal SGU. Cookie cutter. Let's examine that. SGU doesn't fall into that category, at all does it? No, it doesn't borrow or outright steal some fairly obvious components in tone and style from any other franchise, right? And please, do not try to defend crap with utter shit (BSG). There is a reason that went shorter than intended, as did Caprica, as will any further spin-off they try to parlay whatever crap ratings that "Blood and Chrome" garbage will get. Why?
Because, most of the viewership to SyFy is still coming from actual sci-fi fans. Not those who are amused by a show that either compromises to appeal an extremely low-brow audience with tacked-on character stories that are meant to make the characters seem "real"…and yet, at the same time somehow manages to give any halfway-intelligent viewer the distinct impression that the writers and other "creative" forces behind it that they are condescending to and trying to outwit us. Both of those strategies failed, obviously.
Since most of your counter-point has been annihilated, here comes the death blow. "Potential reality"? What did you watch for the last 14 years, to not recognize the fact that SG-1 and Atlantis take place in our era and most of the time, in our world (even if Atlantis was mostly set in a different galaxy)? The fact that you even applied that argument in concert with BSG is frankly laughable as well. The original BSG at least MENTIONED Earth. Your ideas of reality and indeed good entertainment are so irrevocably skewed, that if you ever read this, I'm sure I'll get a great amount of name-calling, flimsy rebuttal.
But the fact is, I won't care. Not one bit. For the simple fact that Wright was given the option to either go for an S6 of Atlantis and one of Universe, or the cancellation of Atlantis for a 2-season deal on Universe. His vanity and lack of touch with the fans led him to take the latter. Tells you he probably knew it would flop, but wanted to put out as much of his "originality" and such as possible. In the process, he dragged the franchise down through a septic tank and effectively killed any interest SyFy had in producing the 3rd SG-1 movie and the first Atlantis one. He also had the nerve to blame the longtime fans for the failure of SGU, after having previously said that he wasn't even trying to attract them to watch it. The man is an idiot, pure and simple, and once enough of his fellows had left and ceased to care about covering up his shortcomings, we all got a good look at him.

Thank God!!!!! After two seasons of actually using a stargate about 6 times. And more drama than sci-fi. Some of the cast was very good but some was very bad. Some of the writing was very good but some very bad. This was not stargate. You need to actually use a stargate for a series to be called stargate. MGM is still a massive force and they should jump back onto something that they helped create. That is the huge extra-planetary sci-fi scene that has become huge in recent years with movies like District 9 and Hunter Prey. And more to come. MGM has a lot of talent under them to create a stargate series that will mesmerize us all.

I think that a lot of modern exoplanet sci-fi comes from the movie Forbiden Planet with Leslie Nielsen. And is headed in the direction of just recently mass invested in sci-fi, starting with the stargate saga and then whatever the best imaginative minds can produce. I would also like to point out some scientific facts that a recent report on scpace.com shows that there may be billions of earth like planets in the milkey way galaxy alone.

Wow..i cant believe this.. that show was sometimes slow at times but it was an amazing one.. THe actors were good ones the episodes themselves were great.. It was getting exremely interesting in the second season.. why cancel it? Ratings are proabably bad because nobody is really willing to watch SyFy anymore.. because all their shows are turning into a more realistic one instead of a truly Science Fiction one.. Head to Britain! Honestly, SyFy has become more and more childish with their programming. Warehouse 13 and Eureka seem to be targeting the intellect of 14 year old boys. If you like your sci-fi to be a little more challenging, the Brits are producing some great shows. Misfits is feaking awesome. Of couse there's Doctor Who, and now there's the new show Outcasts, which is so well done. If you haven't seen it, you really should check it out. They also tend to make better decisions about letting their programs run their full term. If you're just into sciene, they have Wonders of the Solar System and Wonders of the Universe that are off the charts in terms of production value. I say we do an intellectual boycott of SyFy, and stop complaining about wrestling and reality shows they pretend people want.

SGU had character depth, that I haven t seen since Firefly. It was by far the best scifi show on tv. The new line up offered by syfy is pandering to the lowest common denominator (vampires and superheroes both of these have been done to death and from what i have seen they are not going to be anything different).

Very sad day indeed. SGU took some time to get used to, but it was at the core of what scifi is (and should be) all about…innovation. Since the name change the changes are chaotic at best specially with those class "C" movies with lame special effects that keep up polluting a once favorite channel. I have to say that SyFy has made some boner decisions in the past but they just added to the list with cancelling SGU. Too many good show were aired then dropped for 'whatever' reason … StarTrek Enterprise, Stargate Atlantis (ending was rushed), StarTrek Voyager (another rush to end – yeah, I'm a Trekkie, so what?) and they put CRAP like wrestling, Fear Factor (?), Ghost hunters, Marcel's Quantum Kitchen (WTF?). Haven … Come on! You get rid of entertainment and give us crap. Do we have have a reason to be mad? Damn straight we do! No more, people. No more. Syfy really dropped the ball again! Ever since they chnged from sci-fi to syfy the programming has gotten increasingly more juvenile and pedestrian. Marcel's Quantum Kitchen?, Ghost Hunters (in twelve different forms)?, Wrestling?!! I always thought the sci-fi channel was supposed to have more intellectual and thought provoking programming. Not ten b-movies a week about giant sharks and killer crocodiles. SGU was the best space drama I have watched. It had great character development, an intriguing story line and the special effects people have come to expect from the stargate franchise. Dr. Nicholas Rush is the best charcter I have watched in the world of sci-fi apart from obi wan kenobi. Please syfy, pull your heads out of your collective asses over there and give us some more quality programming before your viewers begin jumping ship faster than…whoops syfy just cancelled this comment before it was allowed to run its course.

Second season was the one that made me start to really like SGU, didn´t care much for Season 1 though. WHY IS IT That This network does not keep a show going long enough, and this time it canceled the last Science fiction show they had. It is true this show was not focusing on the Stargate, as It should, but It was a Show with a fan base, faithful followers from the moment Daniel Jackson unlock the Seventh Chevron. IT is sad by Killing the last sci-fi show on TV it is the end of an ERA. And they choose to do it the same month that Smallville ends.

To be honest I'm somewhat relieved that SGU was cancelled. Mainly due to the fact that it had too much unnecessary relationship drama, overused Lost in SpaceVoyager plot and loss of connection that the Stargate franchise had with its fans.
SGU was the only tv show i watched on syfy or any other channel for that matter i normally surf for movies on tv but at 8:00 pm on mondays i watched sgu this sucks hopfully some other network will pick up the show syfy has greatly dis appointed me
Syfy is notorious for cancelling good shows. That is why I stopped being loyal to them many years ago. THEY SUCK BIG DONKA!
soo it's ok to have a show that all they do is go around from one place to another WITHOUT a greater goal or objective and still somehow confuse things to a point that you don't even know if you're actually watching the same show, but it's wrong to have a show with a script that actually evolves through the episodes and (like i said) has a greater goal and makes you wanna wish the days to the next episode were just seconds.. seriously the shows now are pure crappiness compared to some old school shows and don't even say that it's because they're "classic" it's like saying that your grandpa is better that you at sleeping because hes older than you! we could be doing so much awesome stuff right now with the technology that we have but instead we're doing NOTHING worth watching! it's true not all the shows now suck but alot of them do so…
Again, I have to ask, what the Hell show were you watching? SG-1 and Atlantis both had multiple, far-reaching story arcs and they accomplished quite a few "goals" in their time. By comparison, the only feat the Destiny crew achieved was pissing off and alienating a large fanbase. Oh, and failing to acquire a large enough new one to remain viable. Great comparison.

Season 2 packed this series with storyline opportunities for future episodes, even entire seasons. Very sad to see it go. My girlfriend and I will also very much miss Lt. James' breasts. *sniffle*

tbh some of you people make me laugh. if you was real stargate fans you would like and watch every one they make wether it be SG-1, SGA or SGU all of which are brilliant shows. any hopes that SGU would go on have been crushed along with any hope of a third SG-1 movie and the first SGA movie. i just hope for all of us SG fans that they make another series.
SGU was awesome… biggest cliffhanger of the century and only 12 years in… confuses me still as to why they stopped the series..
it was a awesome series and i am dissappointed they discontinued it and not only SGU but other great series… SyFy channel picked a seriously shitty road.. and probly lost alot for it

omg ive only just found out sgu is canceled i never ever watch tv but the 1 program i actully watch with my dad and my brothers was sgu we watched it as soon as it was on. I still have no idea why it has been canceled but they need shooting for it, 1 of the best programs ever and the characters are brilliant for it i nearly cried when i found out :(
